    Fantastic show

by Dr.anne on 2/18/20Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

An “American in Paris” was a complete delight. The entire production was excellent from a talented cast to set design, choreography, and costumes. This was our first show at Drury Lane and we are looking forward to many more.

WHAT A SHOW!!! Followed by a great dinner

by Steve on 2/18/20Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

Got tickets for my wife to take my parents to dinner & a show for a Christmas. An American in Paris did not disappoint. My parents had seen the movie a long time ago, which I was not aware of when I purchased the tickets. My Dad said they enjoyed the movie & after the show when I asked them if they liked the play better than the movie they both said YES!! We all loved the story, singing, music & dancing. You can really see these actors are loving what they are doing. I purchased the package tickets & dinner & really did not know what to expect at the restaurant, but the food was fantastic. They even had a vegan choice for my wife, which was a vegan wellington that she thought was delicious. I would recommend this show to everyone & would even recommend that you get the package with the dinner after the show. Thank you Drury Lane for making our Christmas present to my parents the most WONDERFUL experience!!

C'est Formidable!!! It is La Boheme on steriod!

by YoYo on 2/18/20Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

It was the best musical of the world for many years. I have watched many musicals in London, New York, Chicago and other major cities, but this production and performance was absolutely exceptional, a superb marriage of Gershwin's music (songs), artistic backgrounds (for example, paintings of George Serat's Sunday on La Grand Jatte, Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Toulous Lautrec etc), which reminds me of the Light Museum of Paris (Musee Lumiere Paris) and Montpelier Light Festival, and a very refined, yet very entertaining choreography with many Pirouettes, Chaines and well-executed port-de-bras. I was very proud of our Chicago-land area after watching this piece.

    Absolutely Over the Top!!

by JB-Lombard on 2/18/20Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

My wife and I partook in the Valentine’s Day special fixed-course dinner theater at Drury Lane. We had an excellent dinner - and then proceeded to the feature of the evening: An American in Paris. We were completely overwhelmed with what an excellent presentation it was. The singing, the dancing, the acting was stupendous. This show is 2 hours and 20 minutes of almost non-stop dancing. The choreography is so creative, and very energizing. We did not have any expectation this production could possibly compete with the 1950’s movie. It doesn’t even try. It is very different, with the story line pulling in the residual devastation from WWII. The actors are well-suited for their roles - excellent voices and amazing dancing skills. We highly recommend everyone to take advantage of this amazing production here in our own back yard!

    Dancing Great, Story Boring

by D. R. on 2/17/20Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

After reading reviews of An American in Paris, I was expecting to be blown away. On the contrary, it left me unfulfilled. Much of that was due to a weak story line and development. Instead the focus is on several very lengthy dance numbers. While the choreography was excellent, it was in my opinion, too much and too long. The male vocals were very good but the female vocals could have been stronger. With all that being said, it you enjoy tap, ballet and modern/jazz dance all bundled in one, you'll likely enjoy this play. However, if you prefer strong story lines to accompany wonderful vocals and related dancing, you might want to skip this play. Furthermore the stage setting was unique with the use of projected graphics but it didn't feel like Paris and I believe more could have been done.

    An American in Paris

by M. K. on 2/16/20Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

The first half was pretty good. Good music, good dance routines, and an okay story line. The second half was weak on the story line, and the dance routines were nowhere near as good as the first half. The actor who played the piano player had the best voice, however I can only think of one song where he had significant solo parts.

    Great with “no way” moments

by Nancy on 2/5/20Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace

I thought the musical was so great. Everyone was incredibly talented and the tap dancing was awesome. The story wasn't supposed to be surprising Because I saw the film, but they had some “aw snap” moments in the production where the whole audience was thinking “you didn’t just do that”. So much fun! Every seat is a great seat, plenty of parking, no downtown traffic! Drury Lane is such a gem.
