    Great Show

by M. T. on 2/19/19Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

Truly enjoyed the great music and the story about the Dreamgirls. The one thing that bothered me was once in a while the sound did some funny things. Luckily i was in one of the front rows and could hear the parts that might have been missed.

    No costumes??

by Loves Donna on 2/19/19Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

I was shocked that there were no costumes. I paid $80 and they should have pointed out that in concert meant no costumes

    Got My Money's Worth!

by Anonymous on 10/16/17Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

It was great! Food was great, show was great! HOWEVER...it was EXTREMELY LONG. Our show started at 6pm and it was over at about 11:30pm. Don't make any plans afterwards because you'll be there all day. It was really a great show and the cast was energetic, full of passion the entire time! You will really enjoy it

    Dream Girls Cast is amazing!

by Romack on 9/5/17Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

The cast performances and the overall show was amazing. I highly recommend seeing this show. The buffet style eating setup was a little hectic and confusing as you had to wait for a number to be called to go get your food. Not a fan. Also, the seating arrangement required that if you and your partner sat across from each other to eat, one of you had to turn their seat around to see the show. Not very nice for couples as you really could not interact with each other during the performance from across the table with their back turned to you. The venue was cozy, show was fantastic.

    Dreamgirls was a Nightmare

by KrysLee229 on 4/3/17Albany Municipal Auditorium - Albany

To begin with the play started late, needless to say, we the audience were not pleased. The show just went down hill from there. The audio in the venue was absolutely horrible, either we couldn't hear the performers or they sounded muffled. The production itself failed to meet my expectations. No set design/change and some of the inserted dance routines looked a bit pieced together. With the title of Dreamgirls and this production company, who uses Broadway in their name, the audience came excited with expectations that were quickly deflated. Many did not return after intermission and I too left early.

    Dreamgirls Was a Nightmare

by Gabelawr32 on 4/3/17Albany Municipal Auditorium - Albany

This show was an absolute bust. Dont be fooled by the showy advertisement poster. Here's a list of some things that I experienced: The show started 30 minutes later than it was advertised to start. During that 30 minute lag time, someone came over the loud speaker and said, "Are y'all ready for the Dreamgirls?! You need to be ready to receive this show!" It sounded like he was preaching and giving a sermon. None of the microphones worked (I have connections at the theatre, and the theatre's sound guy said the cast brought their own mics, and those mics were poor quality.) All we heard was popping and cracking the whole time due to the mic quality. The show did not have a set or props (that same contact I have at the theatre said the cast showed up the morning of the show without a single set item or prop. The few things they used that night were pulled from the theatre's greenroom.) Costumes were not period (the costumes looked like the cast members pulled items out of their own closets) and neither was the choreography. There were no playbills, even though the licensing company for Dreamgirls, Tams-Witmark, specifically lists in the licensing that at the very least, performing and licensing rights must be published. The pit musicians were playing from what looked like self-written notes, and the conductor was conducting from a libretto (script) instead of music. (All of this combined with the lack of playbills made us wonder if the producer had even secured proper licensure through Tams-Witmark.) She also did not conduct to set tempi, but snapped loudly, which was distracting. There were many missed lighting cues, and extra long interlude music between scenes (sometimes lasting up to 5 minutes during which the audience got loud and started to complain). Even though Dreamgirls is and always will be one of my favorite musicals, I was embarrassed by this production, and especially for the price we paid for the tickets. My partner described the show as a mix between show tunes karaoke and a high school production. We left during intermission.
