About

2013 saw a double release for Dream Theater: a self-titled studio album and Live at Luna Park, an album that features material taken from the band's A Dramatic Turn of Events tour in 2012. This latter release is a treat, featuring two DVDs and three CDs of material that highlights the prog metal theatrics delighting ticket buyers for over 25 years. These theatrics revolve around the band's consummate artistry. Dream Theater's prog roots compel them to focus on musical craftsmanship as the driving force of their performance. However, serious musicianship is not without its spark of playfulness. A love of quirky humor often pops up when the band performs in concert. It's not uncommon for ticket buyers to be pleasantly surprised by alternating set lists, musical quotes and spontaneous bursts of improvisation. Members of the band have even swapped instruments mid-set just to keep things fresh.

Dream Theater's newest, self-titled album contains all the elements that make the band stand out among their peers. The opening, "False Awakening Suite," sets a cinematic tone for the rest of the tracks. The hard-driving "The Enemy Inside" invokes shades of classic Iron Maiden, yet with Dream Theater's own unique twist. The band has been going hard and strong since 1985, when three music school graduates started the band as a tribute to their heroes. Armed with a stack of potent demos, they hit the NYC circuit, shopping tapes and strengthening their live act. Each new album chronicles their steady artistic progression, as constant touring helps to keep things fresh and their musicianship alive. Dream Theater's music is a lively blend of heavy metal and prog rock, with jazz and classical elements thrown in for a healthy amount of spice.

    Prog metal shred fest

    by Trav on 7/29/23

Dream theater are masters of their craft. Melodic progressive metal that often disguises itself as speed or thrash metal. Excellent show with great opening acts. Would recommend to any metal fan

Band was good, venue was trash

    by DTF on 7/29/23

Expensive tickets just to have us sit in makeshift seats at the back of ground level. If we would have paid half the price for a few rows above us (the stadium seating), we could have actually seen the concert…

    Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience

    by Nick Glad on 7/29/23

DreamSonic was absolutely a once-in-a-lifetime performance. The technical skill demonstrated by Animals as Leaders made most other bands look like kids banging on pots and pans. It was the first time in my life the kick from a song legit knocked the wind out of me. Devin Townsend was by far the most entertaining live performance I have ever seen. 'Kingdom' and 'Lightworker' are two of my favorite songs, and we got to see them live back-to-back. Dream Theater yet again demonstrated that they are the absolute masters of their craft. I have been trying to see my favorite song, 'The Count of Tuscany', live for 14 years. The wait was absolutely worth it. The encore was a dual keyboard performance of 'Amazing Grace' and a quick transition into all 3 bands performing Dream Theater's 'The Spirit Carries On'. We are blessed to have witnessed the absolute pinnacle of musicianship in a span of 4 hours and I don't think we will ever have an experience like that again.

    Dream Theater is MINDBLOWING LIVE

    by RAFFtastic on 7/28/23

They are such talented artists and they do an amazing job. Blown away by their talent and how well they jam with each other. And just, spectacular. I only knew 2 of the songs they played, but even so, how amazing it was!

    Incredible

    by MAG1973 on 7/28/23

Dream Theater, a band I have seen live countless times, seems to age like fine wine. It might be an unconventional analogy, but their performances have only improved. Few bands can match the highs and lows they deliver during their shows, evoking such strong emotions that they have even brought me to tears. Their musical prowess and ability to connect with their audience create unforgettable experiences at each concert, leaving a lasting impact on me as a devoted fan. Music is subjective, and Dream Theater's power over my emotions is a testament to their artistry and profound effect on their listeners. I could not recommend this band more.

    Epic Show

    by Shanny77 on 7/28/23

This entire show was fantastic! Some of the best seats I've ever gotten for a concert, actually. Left side, row c. Dream Theater is one of my husband's favorite bands, and has been listening to them since he was 15, and this was the first time he was able to see them, myself as well, and they put on one hell of a show. These guys are so damn talented with their craft, it's really amazing to watch them live! They honestly sounded fantastic live! Anyone who said/says that James LaBrie lip syncs, I don't know what your smoking, cuz that man can definitely sing, and he sounded great! Not only them, but also Devin Townsend. His stage pressence was phenomenal. His vocals were fantastic as well. We caught the last song from Animals as Leaders, and from what we heard they sounded great as well. Venue staff was kind and helpful. The sound systems and lighting were on point! Everything went so smoothly, and we couldn't be happier! Thank you to all the great talent, who went out of their way to put on an amazing show! You guys rock!!

    Great Bands, Venue Too Expensive

    by Mikey-Mike on 7/28/23

All three bands were great. the sound was pretty good, although a little loud. You could really feel the bass,. The venue was the issue. $38 to park. No signs to tell you where the YouTube theater is. You just park outside SoFi stadium and are expected to know that the theater is inside it. $19 for a beer is pretty standard ripoff pricing, but $12 for one slice of cheese pizza?

    dreaming on infinity

    by Benlix on 7/28/23

great show! seats were great, lower section 203. wished Dream Theater played longer. so many more songs i wanted to hear, especially off the Distance over time album. with a shorter set, they should implement a song medley with a mixture of songs.

    Up close and personal

    by TheStew on 7/27/23

I was in the first two rows so saw everything very clearly. Dream Theater consists of virtuoso musicians. From where I was, the sound mix was so bass heavy that I could barely hear the guitar solos. The concert was exciting and all the performers were warm friendly and energized. The miked bass drum was just turned up too high for the front rows. Still all in all, I really enjoyed watching Dream Theater live after watching so many hi res blu ray discs of live concerts.

    Solid show

    by Nico on 7/27/23

Animals as leaders and Townsend were amazing. Only issue was the sound balance was a bit wonky; animal's drums were a bit too cooked over the guitar and bass. Townsend is fantastic, but the vocals were a bit quiet compared to the instruments, drums especially. Dream theaters sound balance was perfect, instrumentalists were amazing; personally not a fan of the singer.

    Awesome Show!!

    by Kep on 7/27/23

This was an amazing show! We loved every part of it. Animals as Leaders were fantastic and I had been looking forward to seeing them. Devin Townsend was amazing with such impressive energy as well as amazing vocals! This was my fifth time seeing Dream Theater and they never disappoint!! We were second row and loved it! I think the only thing that could have improved was the mix for James LaBrie's vocals. He was a little hard to hear at times, but it didn't diminish our enjoyment of the show!!

    Great evening for a Monday!

    by Bobby on 7/27/23

DT sounded great and AAL and Devin complimented well. James vocals can’t carry the range was a bit disappointing. He seemed to pick his spots to explore his range from the past. Balance of band always excel! Wish I didn’t have to travel to San Jose to see them but was fun!

    Yay

    by James on 7/26/23

Great balanced night with three acts that all are unique yet work together (case in point, the encore at the end of the show where almost every band member contributed to the final song!)
