I haven't been to a metal show in about 6 years and this was the perfect return to the metal scene!
Show was overall excellent. The opening band, Taking Dawn, from Las Vegas was amazing. Their lead singer was loaded with charisma and attitude. They got the show rocking early. They were followed by Sonata Artica. They were okay. Kinda took away from the energy produced by Taking Dawn. Finally Dragon Force came on stage and blew us all away. They guitar work is absolutly amazing. The most fun off all is the stage presence. They guys interact with lots of humor while playing. Pretending to kick each other, making sad faces during slow songs and cracking each other up while they are trying to be serious. Good time had by all!
DragonForce put on a show like no band I have seen before. The sound quality was well above that of all opening acts (not to mention the pure musicianship), and they put out more energy than every punk rock show I have seen at the same venue combined. They are masters of their instruments, ZP is vocal master and top-notch showman. I would beg this band to play my town again because they put on a show that neither I nor my wife will never forget.
DragonForce was better then I could even imagine!!! That / Their type of music is very strong; very powerful, and I was curious to see how they could pull it off in a venue like Ventura's Majestic Theater (in this case "size does matter"). UNBELIEVABLE!!! Absolutely wonderful. And very personable. My son and I LOVED IT!!!
Excellent concert ! Great deal for 40$ ! All the best songs were here
This was my first Dragonforce concert. I enjoyed it a lot, however, I wish there was seating available for people who want to be able to sit around to enjoy the music and not have to deal with getting elbowed in the head, or getting thrown into unwanted mosh pits. I know that this may just be the environment for these types of concerts, but it would be nice for older people who want to be able to sit and rock out.
Dragonforce was epic. The hair was epic and the solos were epic.
As always, the Lead band Dragonforce is amazing. Their stage presence is great and they are awesome. Taking Dawn started out a bit funky, but quickly recovered and were great. Sonata Artica was a solid performance their whole show. Great Great show. Even the locals, 2 Cents were good.
ti was my first concert that i attend and i like it specially cuz i got to see my favor band like Dragonforce but specially Sonata Arctica face to face a couple feet away from me and see them play.
Sonata Arctica opened for Dragonforce, and it was much to the pleasure of everyone in the crowd. They played some of their best tracks - In Black and White, Paid in Full, Don't Say a Word, Flag in the Ground - as well as some of their other tracks. Everyone loved their performance. After they left, so did a large portion of the audience. Dragonforce came out next, starting with 'Heroes of Our Time,' one of their better songs. They later went on to play songs including Operation Ground and Pound, and finished with Through the Fire and the Flames, all of which are available on the X-Box 360 Game, Guitar Hero III. Many would argue they only became popular because of that game. Dragonforce has never been very good live, and the same held true for tonight. They don't play their music very well - No harmonization, and often sounding like they are singing something entirely different in person than what they sing on the CD. Bad vocals partnered with an overpowered bass, everything else was drowned out. The keyboarder was honestly the best-playing member of the band. Crowd-pleasing is important to Dragonforce, likely due to playing such horrible live music. They were able to get a lot of cheers when they threw water on people, followed by tossing the bottles into the audience, as well as drinking beer on stage - the glass bottles being held in attached cup-holders.
This was my first metal/rock concert, and I was seriously impressed with DragonForce. Their over-the-top style of metal, combined with their fantasy-based lyrics, and stage theatrics made for one great concert.
awesomely amazing night! sonata arctica was incredible opening for dragonforce on friday night in hollywood, california. dragonforce proved why they are headlinging north america. they are wonderful entertainers!
We are actually Sonata Arctica fans and not Dragonforce fans. It's a balancing act, since it's always a gamble going to a concert to see the opening act, but Sonata is always worth seeing. Taking Dawn was okay. Four or five songs, including a metal cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain." With a little work, that song could be pretty cool. The lead singer used the F-word pretty liberally, perhaps as a way of letting the Dragonforce-fan-parents know that they are, in fact, at a metal show. Sonata was good though Tony seemed to be nursing a cold, plus his mic was mixed erratically. For a vocal-driven group, it was a little flat but still worth watching. He's still the best voice in metal, even with a cold. The best thing I can say about Dragonforce is that it reminded me of taking my kids to see Parachute Express about 15 years ago. All that was missing was the confetti cannon, the fire eaters, and the girls on trapeze. They are certainly talented but have decided to take a cartoony route to success. My kids say the rumor is that they aren't good live; that's not exactly true. They are either not your cup of tea, in which case their live show will irritate the hell out of you, or you love them and will love their live show. And I mean, really love it. If you like a crazed Japanese-Ukrainian clown-gamer as a keyboardist, you'll love Dragonforce.
I've been listening to Dragonforce for about a year, and this was the first time I've seen them in concert. It was definitly worth going to. Both of their guitarists are amazing.
Possibly one of the best shows I've been to! Dragonforce have really improved on their live show. One of the best song line ups from them including my all time favorite Disciples of Babylon! DONT MISS THIS SHOW!
Awesome. Opening bands are very good on D-Force tours but the opening-opening bands are usually terrible, in this case Waking Dawn lived up to that. Sonata Artica was very good though.
dragonforce fans out there - this was an amazing show. amazing.
Wanted more sonata!!!!!! Thats the reason we came and afterwards the reason many people left. Not enough Sonata!!!!
Overall, a great show! Some no name band opened, which I only caught the last half of their last song, since I came late. Taking Dawn was next; they were terrible. Sonata Arctica (the main reason I went) was unbelievable, as always. Seen them live more than once and every time, they're phenominal. Played a song (Flag in the Ground) from their new album, The Days of Grays. DragonForce put on a great show as they usually do, but still couldn't beat Sonata. Cons: Taking Dawn, Sonata didn't get much time, Sonata ran out of mechandise quickly. Pros: Great performances by both Sonata Arctica and DragonForce. Bottom Line: Definitely see SA and DF if you get the chance; Avoid Taking Dawn.
The opening band "Two Cents" was very organized, interesting, and entertaining. Taking Dawn was quite a disappointment. Sonata Arctica and DragonForce both played commendably.
