Down truly are the statesman of NOLA metal...each show is a thing to behold...the power of the riff compels me!

  • Good night, Great Down Show

by Sanchitoz on 1/22/13City National Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Honky opened the show. Good sound quality, drew some interest from the crowd. Originally HAARP was supposed to open and would have preferred them much more. Honky was good. Warbeast was next. Thrash is my favorite metal. Warbeast is a band without an identity. The lead singer and lead guitarist look like they are straight out of an 80's metal band. The lead singer's vocals don't go with the music. They are out of time and simply don't work. The band sounded very good, the singer, not so much so. Wouldn't see them again... Down played a great set and show. Music was clean, vocals were the best I've heard from Phil in years and he is about the best frontman in the business. Great performance. Why 4 out of 5? Warbeast sucked that much for me.....

  • Hail Down!!

by Necrolord on 1/20/13City National Grove of Anaheim - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Outstanding performance from start to finish! Non stop action plus not one but two encores. I hope DOWN comes every year and I would definitely get the VIP package again.

Phil was in rare form. Talking to the crowd after each song. And singing like he was having fun and enjoying it. The crowd was giving it up and singing to all the ifavorites. Played a few off there new album "WITCH TRIPPER." most of the songs were from Nola bringing the heavyness. That's what everyone likes and wants to hear. Very cool show definitely recommended.

  • If you get the chance...GO!!!

by Bushdoctor1369 on 1/17/13The Orange Peel, Tremont Music Hall - Asheville, CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Down at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC and the Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, NC and all I can say is wow! Easily the most engaging and entertaining shows I have ever had to privilege to see! Phil and Kirk played the crowds and kept everybody in stitches and the music was out of sight. Also LOVED Warbeast as the opener. Great shows!!

  • DOWN was AWESOME!!!!!!! Phil was amazing!!!!!

This was such a great show. DOWN was great! I love small venues especially seeing Down cause then I can get closer to the band. Absolutely an awesome show!

  • Headliner excellent, venue beer prices ridiculous

by MyWomanIsTheFan on 10/8/12Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 4 out of 5

Down the band played excellent, and Phil really engaged the crowd, making the show excellent. Supporting acts performed well, but their style of metal is not my thing - vocals w constant screaming/shouting/growling - gets old after 1 song. ** Starland is a nice venue but its beer prices are ridiculous ($7 for domestic and $8 for some imports), and that's from a bottle only - no draft - and that means only 12 ounces - not 16. *AND* the beer selection was weak (no Sam Adams, no Magic Hat, no Sierra Nevada, no Bass Ale). Starland is in Jersey, which has tons more microbrews available on the market than my home state - so what gives?

  • Best show I have ever SEEN!

    by baird2100 on 10/7/12Pops - SaugetRating: 5 out of 5

3rd time seeing Down was the best. They have truly matured into a very professional live act. The addition of new bassist shows in live performance, which is better than studio album, in my opinion. This show was like the greatest Blues-Metal show ever. Thanks Down, YOU 5 GUYS ROCK.

  • Down!!

    by LarryJones2078 on 10/7/12Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

Another stellar show. The new material is awesome and the boys played a nice mix of new and old. The energy was great and Phillip H seemed to be feeding off of the crowd. Played nearly two hours. We did the VIP deal for the second time and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Down is killer!!

  • haarp, Warbeast & Down's passion energized us all!

by PureWallnuts on 10/5/12Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

First time at the Starland Ballroom, the staff in the orange t shirts were informative and it was the little details i was more impressed with, like asking where the bathrooms were and escorting me to an area where i could enjoy a cigarette. Professional to say the least. As for the band's, haarp was a band i didn't know and was totally impressed how they performed. The raw energy they displayed for the crowd must have been appreciated as i was super impressed how they played their entire album at once without stopping. Warbeast was another great sounding energetic band that i truly enjoyed. The totally cool part of both these bands is after they performed, you had a chance to chat with them, high five them and get to know them at the booth. I purchased a CD from both these bands. As for Down, well what can you say that has not already been said. Fantastic band with that Louisiana flavor to it! Phil is a legend and has been on top of the world. Nice to see him perform in smaller venues. Phil can really get the crowd going as his energy to perform is legendary.

  • Down did NOLA proud!

by FrankReviewer1 on 10/1/12Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Phil Anselmo's rapport made the whole show for me. He made his appreciation of the fans apparent throughout and the band played every single second they were alotted until the venue's curfew. Show definitely had a great vibe; highly recommend.

  • Awesome Show!!!

by NickyB1331 on 10/1/12Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I am a long time Down fan and was very excited to attend this show. I have never been to the Best Buy theater and was quite impressed. Everything was extremely clean and the small, intimate size of the venue added to the evening. The bands sounded great. They were punctual and played a great set.

  • Down absolutely killed it!!!!

by CaptainInsano on 10/1/12Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Phil is the ultimate front man backed by a supergroup of musicians. A real who's who of underground rock featuring members of Crowbar, EHG, COC, and Pantera. Phil commands the audience while the band pummels them with sludgy/stony riffs. Absolute masters of the craft and incredible showmen. Only wish they had more dates in NYC.

  • by Bove2k on 10/1/12Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing, as always! Great band, great front man. Phil becomes more raw, yet more human, every time I see them. Pepper and Kirk rock like no other pair of guitarists on the planet. This is a band I can never see too many times.

  • Saint Vitus + Down = A damn good night

by FriedCheese on 10/1/12Best Buy Theater - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I missed the 1st band (Haarp), the 2nd band (Warbeast) was okay but not great. Saint Vitus played a good set, I didn't recognize some of the newer songs but they played a few old classics (War is Our Destiny, Born Too Late, Dying Inside). Down was great. Phil Anselmo was funny as hell on stage, and they played a decent mix of old stuff and new stuff. The only reason I'm giving the show 4 stars instead of 5 is because they didn't play anything off the 3rd album.
