Comedian Doug Benson (The Benson Interruption, Last Comic Standing) departs from stand-up with his entertainment-themed podcast Doug Loves Movies, live onstage and featuring special surprise guests. Don’t miss your chance to see Doug and his friends banter about films and play the crowd-favorite Leonard Maltin game.
So funny, would recommend the show to anyone. I loved the donuts being thrown and the guests that came on. Doug is the best!
Although I was not completely familiar with the podcast format before I bought the tix, the show was extremely funny, very entertaining, different than a standup comedy act and I'd definitely go back again.
First time seeing Doug Loves Movies and we're hooked. Already bought tickets to see the next show Oct 8th!
Good times had by all, #heavymonkey. I had more donuts than I knew I needed
What a hilarious show! So much fun and great fan interaction.
This show was a blast! I've been listing to the podcast for over a year, but never have I had the chance to go see it live. It was SO much better to see it in person! I'm very upset I won't be able to make the next Doug Loves Movies, as I'll be away on vacation, but I will certainly be returning for any more Doug Loves Movies recordings at The Wilbur. Oh, and by the way, The Wilbur staff was incredible! Super friendly and helpful! I had such a great time!
I'm a big fan of Doug Loves Movies and this night did not disappoint. All three of Doug's guests were amazing. I was especially glad to get to see Geoff Tate in person. Audience interaction added to the show instead of subtracting it. Also, there were many fun callback jokes that threaded their way through the entire show. All were fun.
The premise of the show is hilarious: comedians and actors answer and laugh about questions and movies. The podcast is hilarious, and I wanted to see the atmosphere in person. On the night that I attended, Doug had four guests: Jim Norton, Ron Bennington, Sam Roberts and Esther Ku. The introduction was fun. Somewhat stoner comedians jest about life, movies, stories, actors, and the weird place we watch our movies(planes, bed, traveling, etc). Once the games start up however, it all falls apart if there isn't even a modicum of knowledge. Esther Ku isn't funny. There's not much to her jokes, stories, and insight. She's super high, which is usually funny, but it's to the point where she's unable to answer the questions or speak clearly... hilarious. So, it only takes one really poor player that doesn't care about the game and seemingly only cares about self-promotion to crap all over the whole thing. It ended up ruining the experience for me. But, I did like watching the rest of the guests play through the games. So, that's it. The fans rule, most comedians are funny, but one uncaring guests can deflate the experience.
I have been a fan of Doug Benson’s standup comedy, movies (currently on Netflix) and various podcasts (check iTunes/podcasts) for several years. His performances are consistently funny. Looking at his touring dates, his stamina is amazing. I will credit that to his upbeat personality, imagination and a certain substance linked to the 4:20 start time of his show. Doug’s brand of comedy is not offensive, combative or threatening. I may have made him sound like a PG-rated commodity, but I would not recommend his shows to anyone below older teen level. My seat was good; I was on the main floor (on left side). My only complaint is that I seemed to not be able to get the server’s attention to order a drink, but I will take the blame for that one. The ticket price was very reasonable. Security was a presence, but not in any objectionable sense. Doug’s presence often elicits “flying doughnuts” and large lighted artifacts (aka name tags), so I assume that security was allowed to be a little more lenient on patron searches. Check out Doug Benson’s movies and standup on Netflix. I still recommend seeing him live on The Benson Interruption and Doug Loves Movies. Doug seems to have a gift for choosing a grouping of comedians on stage with him for those events that only increases the energy level and humor. My companions (2 DLM “virgins”) and I left this show laughing even though we faced a congested car drive home. I will be there next time he appears in Boston.
doug loves movies was everything i expected and more. I have listened to the podcasts and enjoy everything about the show. the theatre was older and smallish. but that only added to the enjoyment (which included them trying to throw doughnut holes up to the top balcony)
If you're a fan of the Doug Loves Movie Podcast then you'll love seeing it done live. If you're not a fan of the podcast you should be. And, if you've never heard of the podcast then look it up! This was my first time seeing the show live and it was a lot of fun. Doug and the comedians were great. The crowd made tons of name-tags and they put a lot of effort into them. And, don't forget the donut catapult! If you like movies and you like comedy then there's no reason you shouldn't listen to Doug Loves Movies and go see him live when you have the chance.
Great fun. Donuts! Drinks pretty expensive relative to the ticket price.
This show is hilarious, I've only seen Doug's movie interruption before, and had no idea what DLM was about, but I had a feeling I would have a good laugh either way, and I was not disappointed. If you love Doug, or movies, or having a good time, check out the show!
Such an awesome show everytime. Love that he sticks to longer shows making sure everyone gets their money's worth. Venue is always awesome and laid back. Think they can tell this is a less crazy crowd then most this at the Gramercy. Worst case a donut will be thrown into the crowd.
This is my third time seeing Doug at Gramercy and it was incredible. Every seat is a good seat and the line up was awesome. I got a little too drunk and loved everything I remember.
The DLM show is somewhat of a niche show. Those who are fans of film, Doug Benson, and comedy shows in general will love the style of humor of the show.
Great show. Guests were fun and very entertaining.
I really enjoy the podcast--especially the games they play. My bummer for this show was that they barely got to the games by the end of the show. There was a long time of fun riffing, and a few donut throwing moments that felt uncomfortable for me. I plan to go to another one of these in the future. I bet if I heard this episode on in podcast form, I might have skipped it. Still fun to see comedians hanging out live.
The DLM show was absolutely hilarious. If you are a fan of the podcast you'll know what to expect but I could not have asked for a better, crazier episode to attend.
I love Doug. He's an amazing comic who puts people at ease. He gets the crowd going with his antics and knows how to work his panel.
