Dope Lemon on Tour

Soul-pop performer Angus Stone -- aka Dope Lemon -- originally hails from Australia and has performed both solo and in a number of successful musical groups. Born in 1986, Stone grew up in Sydney and started playing keyboard and guitar in elementary school. Coming from a musical family, Stone would frequently perform with other family members, including his parents (both folk musicians) and his older sisters, Julia and Catherine.

In high school, Stone started writing pop songs and joined local bands. In 2006, he and his sister, Julia Stone, formed a duo, Angus & Julia Stone. They released their debut EP Chocolate And Cigarettes, in August of that year, then followed it up with two more EPs, two compilation albums, and four studio albums.

In 2009, Stone released his debut solo album, Smoking Gun, under the pseudonym Lady Of The Sunshine, which reached the Top 50 on the ARIA Albums Chart. In 2011, Stone and his sister parted ways to pursue individual solo projects, and in 2012, he released his sophomore effort, Broken Brights, which featured "Bird on the Buffalo," "Monsters," "Wooden Chair," and the title track as singles.

In 2016, Stone began recording under the name Dope Lemon. He released the album Honey Bones that same year, recording with Rohin Brown (of The Walking Who) and Elliott Hammond. The album's singles included "Marinade" and "Uptown Folks." The following year, Stone released another set of studio recordings as Dope Lemon: the four-track EP Hounds Tooth.

By 2019, Stone released another Dope Lemon album called Smooth Big Cat. It peaked at No. 2 in Australia, with Beat magazine calling it "Dope Lemon's most developed and ethereal sound yet." In early 2022, Stone shared his fifth studio album, titled Rose Pink Cadillac. It featured the singles "Every Day Is a Holiday," "Kids Fallin' in Love," "Rose Pink Cadillac," and "Stingray Pete."

Opening up to GQ Australia in January 2022, Stone talked about how he views his personal musical evolution, saying: "I think your respect for the craft becomes more refined. It's a labor of love, to say the least. It's an ever-turning, growing wheel of learning how to tell a story. It's something I wake up every morning when I'm in the studio mode and I'm super excited. I make a coffee and wander in and it's just... I don't know, for me, I feel like I'm in this place that I'm supposed to be."

    SundayFunDay

by GardenStateOfMind on 11/9/23Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Found free parking a block from event! The event staff was super friendly. We have always like this venue and love the chicken Sandwich which we always try and grab before the show. Now let's talk about the show. I am a Dope Lemon fan so I did buy my tickets pre-sale so you can say I been looking forward to this night for a little bit! The band was tight and still having fun late on the tour ran. Hearing the band live was tight and I like when a band plays for each other finding magic in the beat, harmonies, and the electricity that flows from vibrations of the room.Dope Lemon played a fun chill, psychedelic blues rock show that had cool cartoons videos playing during the show that added a cool extra visual plus the Dancers that had on the fun large heads.Great time Great venue Great Band!!!

Not quite up to my raised expectations

by Dylan on 11/6/23Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

The vocal distortion I expected, just not on the banter between tracks… it made it very hard to follow along, and it definitely isn’t an issue with the sound system at the Paradise. The reliance on lots of newer material and a distracted crowd didn’t make for a life changing experience, but it was definitely fun to hear some of the hits live.

Amazing show!! Loved the energy on stage and their interaction with the audience. The visuals were insane and the music and vibes were immaculate. Maybe just a bit short of a show..

    Terrible Sound Mixing & Lights

by Mild Lemon on 10/23/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

I've seen Dope Lemon twice before. Both times they were super fun and Angus was a great front man. But the show at the Fillmore had some of the worst sound mixing I've ever heard at an indoor show. I was right in the middle of the floor, and couldn't hear a single word that he said or sung. The bass drum was overwhelming and drowned out everything else. I get being at the Fillmore makes someone want to go big, but this shouldn't have been trying to sound like a rock show. The set design was also really lacking - no real visuals, and lights that were flashing in our faces. They brought out a couple dancers with masks on that added something, but I ended up leaving when they went off pre-encore because it really wasn't worth it. I'll see them again, but maybe just at a festival

    Great Aussi band

by Coach Omar on 10/22/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

They sound great. They should come more often. Maybe a more intimate venue will work better for this kind of band

    Dope Lemon falls short.

by B Rikli on 10/22/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

A bonafide international.rock star, Dope Lemon’s performance fell short because there was so much going on it was impossible for even the most devoted fan to decipher which number he was performing. I saw him a few years back when he performed with his sister. That was more of an acoustic set, you could out pick out the vocal, and it was wonderful. Wednesday’s performance was so far from that. I’m a big fan, but next time around I might reconsider going out of my way to see Dope Lemon. If his recorded music sounded like it did Wednesday night, I wouldn’t be a fan. The audience responded very favorably. I would have to agree it was a great performance. The special effects with lighting and smoke added to the show, but picking out the vocal was definitely a challenge.

The Fillmore is always a great place to catch a band, but Angus and his band really created such a great vibe. I will see Dope Lemon again. I saw quite a few bands this year, Dope Lemon was the best.

    Totally DOPE...Lemon

by Eric on 10/19/23The Bellwether - Los Angeles

I have been to more than 100 concerts, beginning with BTO and Wishbone Ash in 1976. I have seen some truly amazing acts over the years, and now I am extremely fortunate to say that I saw an amazing performance by Dope Lemon. They absolutely rocked The Bellwether in Los Angeles...The sound was fantastic, the light show was hypnotic and Dope Lemon blew away the entire audience with their "Magical"performance...I will see them again and agin!!!
