About

For gospel singer and preacher Donnie McClurkin, music and spreading the word of God are one and the same. His concerts mix gospel standards, stirring originals, impromptu medleys, covers of secular hits and joyful discussions about the power of faith. McClurkin’s style is smooth and sophisticated, but he can still get crowds amped up with his genuine passion and unwavering devotion. It makes for a celebratory live experience, which was perfectly captured on his most recent album, the 2008 live recording We Are All One, which led to the single “Wait On The Lord.” McClurkin’s devotion is also evident in his weekly television show, Perfecting Your Faith.

Music and religion were also the two forces that helped save McClurkin from a childhood filled with trials. He joined his church choir at a young age and was soon doing backup vocals for gospel legend Andraé Crouch. In 1989, he was hired as an associate minister at Detroit’s Perfecting Church, working under another gospel star, Marvin Winans of The Winans Family. McClurkin released his self-titled debut album in 1996, and buoyed by popular single “Stand” and a plug from Oprah Winfrey, the album went gold. He sold tickets around the world, and his UK-recorded live album, 2000’s Live In London and More went double platinum. Its followup, Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs, also went double platinum and earned McClurkin his first of three Grammy Awards. He also earned 10 Stellar Awards, two BET Awards, two Soul Train Awards and one NAACP Image Award. When McClurkin is not touring around the country, he shares his devotion preaching as the senior pastor of the Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, New York and on the television show Perfecting Your Faith.

    Festival Of Praise

by Olivergilbert on 10/8/14Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

Donnie McClurken was not feeling well. I just wish he was able to sing more of his songs. I had been wanting to see him a long time. And I really wanted to see him perform his songs.

Two phony preachers who should stick to singing.

by Scumby41 on 10/8/14Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

Fed Hammond was flashing the illuminati devil horn sign the entire night. The show with 3 women lip synching 1 song each including the Hammond daughter and McClurkin sister. Then the DJ/Emcee JD Lawrence did a strangely out-of-place hip-hop way too loud set including AL Green. The headliners, an alarmingly thin Donnie McClurkin suffering through a diabetes incident and Fred Hammond did a few numbers. After a bizarre short movie clip Donnie and Fred came out and sat in chairs talking about their medical problems before doing a couple songs. After whichthe show can to a complete halt while they shilled for one of the adopt an African kid charity scams. Guilt tripping audience members into signing up. The show ended with a couple more big hits like Victorius.

    Good but not great

by slickwil on 10/8/14Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

The volume was so loud that the vocals and band turned to mud during the more uptempo songs. The quieter songs sounded great. The lights left a lot to be desired--any amateur knows you have to front-light dark-skinned people. It seemed like the light person didn't know the music, because when a soloist would step to the front of the stage their solo would be mostly over before the spotlight hit them. All in all a solid show, but it was also only about 65-70% music and the rest testifying and promoting World Vision.

Gospel Concerts at the Fair are Spectacular

by Staa on 7/10/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

These are wonderful events. I won't ever miss attending. I had better seats this year which made it all the better. Donnie McClurkin was good and the mass choir was wonderful. Can't wait to see what's on the schedule for next year.

DONNIE AND THE SF8 SUPER CHOIR WAS OUTSTANDING

by Casshandra on 6/11/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

I AM STILL IN AWE OF THE PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE OF THE SF8 SUPER CHOIR MADE UP FROM AREA VOLUNTEERS. IF THEY HAD A CD OF THEIR PERFORMANCE I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT BECAUSE THEY WERE SO GREAT. THE HEADLINER DONNIE MCKLURKIN NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION BECAUSE HE ALWAYS GIVE A STELLAR PERFORMANCE. I WILL BE SEEING HIM ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE "KING'S MEN" IN SPETEMBER! FIRST TIME AT THE DELMAR FAIR AND I HAVE BECOME A FAN. THE ORGANIZATION AND PLANNIG WAS WELLONBSERVED. THE PRICING IS FAR BETTER THAN THE LA COUNTY AND ORANGE COUNTY FAIRS. THE FOOD CHOICES ARE SO LARGE IN NUMBER AND VARIETY. I LIVE IN PERRIS AND WILL BE DRIVING BACK TO ENJOY MORE FUN AT THIS FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Inspirational!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by captjack1mom on 6/11/12Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

The Super Choir of about 1000 people as the opening act was awesome. they were on stage and on the floor in front of the stage. Wow that got everyone going. Donnie was great but he held back a few of his most popular songs and promoted the All the Kings men Concert with he and others that will be coming up. Yep going to that one too!!!! Great seats since we did not wait. Good sound system and everything was nice at the facility.

    A Heavenly Party!

by EnglishGenius on 3/13/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

This concert is an experience that I will never forget. Even though the event started late, it was well worth the wait. Every act did a superb job getting the crowd involved in the show and the presence of God was truly witnessed in the venue. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera to take pictures of this awesome experience. Surprise appearances by Tye Tribbett and Kierra "Kiki" Sheard really spiced up the concert. I think there should be more events like this because they are truly needed in difficult times like the one in which we currently live. People's spirits need to be edified, encouraged, and empowered so they can do their part to make this earth a better place for all who inhabit it and for all who will come to inhabit it. Finally, I had the time of my life at this concert and look forward to the next concert like this one at Boardwalk Hall. It proved a phenomenal way to commence the new year and decade.

all of the artists were great. The sound quality was very poor in the auditorium., There were too many long pauses between artists and Fred Hammond was rushed to meet a time schedule

The best Christmas gift I ever received!!

by Bree777 on 1/11/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

My husband got these tix for me for Christmas. At first I was going to take a friend because I didnt think he would enjoy it. He is a new Christian and not all that into the music yet. Boy did he prove me wrong. God was definitely in that place. We had an amazing time, and it turns out that Donnie McClurkin was his favorite. He even asked me to look for other gospel concerts that are coming to our area. What a blessing to be in that place at that time.

    Mighty Move of God

by RevCrystal on 1/6/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

What an awesome musical worship service I attended this evening! May God get the glory and praise due His Holy Name! My spirit rejoiced, my feet danced and my hands are still clapping when I think about how these gifted talent ministers did not perform but actually minister to our spirits, what a way to begin the new year. Would not have missed it for the world!

    Celebrating Christ is Joyful!

by Magdaleen on 1/6/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The Gospel Celebration 2010 was joyful and energetic! The artists could have ministered a little longer, but I understand the time constratints placed on them. It was obvious that Fred Hammond gave the crowd extra time and sent us home rejoicing. I will definitly make sure I attend the next event!
