About

Donna The Buffalo is not just a band, rather one might say that Donna The Buffalo has become a lifestyle for its members and audiences. Since 1989, the roots rockers have played thousands of shows and countless festivals including Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, Telluride, Austin City Limits Festival, Merle Fest, and Philadelphia Folk Festival.

They've opened for The Dead and have toured with Peter Rowan, Del McCoury, Los Lobos, Little Feat, Jim Lauderdale, Rusted Root, and Railroad Earth to name a few. They also toured with Ben & Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen to help raise awareness about increased corporate spending in politics.

In 1991, the band started the Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg, NY. The four day festival has become an annual destination for over 15,000 music lovers every year and was started as an AIDS benefit. It continues as a benefit for arts and education. To date, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and is now one of three Grassroots Festivals; the Bi-annual Shakori Hills fest in North Carolina and Virginia Key festival in Florida. In 2016 GrassRoots Culture Camp was introduced in Trumansburg, New York as four days of music, art, dance and movement workshops, including nightly dinners and dances.

The Best Band Too Few Know

by Jabstep on 10/7/13B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Donna The Buffalo always get the crowd up on their feet and keep them there. Their blues/folk/cajun/jamming amalgam is punctuated by great songwriting and high energy playing. Their set at B.B. Kings was no exception. Check out this band. You'll wonder what took you so long.

Donna the Buffalo put on a GREAT show!

by BigAlFla on 12/30/12Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Show started at least an hour late - tickets said 8:00 but the music didn't start until after 9:00. Never been to Revolution LIVE before - drinks are pricey. Opening act was good - local band. Then came Donna the Buffalo - they were awesome. They put on a first rate, totally professional show. What you would expect from a seasoned touring band. I loved it!

Donna the Buffalo in Buffalo was a BAD

    by SeriouslyDisappointed1 on 2/5/12Tralf - Buffalo

What a huge disappointment. Band was lifeless! I've seen Donna the Buffalo many times and they are usually great fun and energy. Not this show. Would hesitate to see them again.

    DTB

by BHGK on 1/9/12Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

I think DTB is a national treasure. Certainly best band in America no one has ever heard of. Great songbook, lots of energy, great musicianship. Can't wait for their return to South Florida at the Virginia Key Grassroots Festival!

Awesome vibes lively songs. D.T.B Is a band that bring it with energy , roots Americana country music zydeco old time. Tara played accordian and fiddle and sang immaculately I even met Jeb after show an. Talked fir awhile. This band may have simple chord progressiions and basic beats and common songs arrangements, so me as a music fan who seeks out crazy jams , tine signatures and jazz funk fusions and bands that innovate and seek out new sounds can make me a little apt to get bored quickly with bands that only play one stlye or sound similar to other things I've heard . However, even to my picky and somewhat snobbish taste in music, DTB still uplifts with joy, positive vibes and conscious lyrics that can shake you out of over indulgence in intellectualism and need for novelty and Get into the moment called now and simply celebrate existence and dance , dance, dance!

    Good times

by justasimpleton on 1/8/12Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Donna just gets better every time I see them. The years have been very good to this band. I took a friend who was not a fan before and now has fallen in love with them. He said 'the positivity at the show is infectious...all I wanted to do was smile and shake it ". I agreed.

Donna The Buffalo was Very Good!!!

    by 94SeaRay on 10/2/11Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Overall both the Roy Jay Band and Donna The Buffalo put on a very nice concert to attend. I had never heard the Roy Jay Band before and was pleasantly surprised. Sax and guitars were fantastic and all musicians were very good. Donna The Buffalo were very good as well and songs played were perfectly selected as far as I am concerned. Only complaint about both performances was the sound system. The bass was overpowered and distorted from the start for both performances and I am amazed that the Band's Sound Techs allowed their music to be presented that way. All other sound including voices and instruments was fine. This is what prevents me from rating the concert 5 STARS!!!!

Not Good Not Good!! Sound sytem was awful. Both groups kept adjusting it. Very distracting. I can't believe Donna the Buffalo would allow that opening act. Hated them. Doors were suppose to open at 8:00 but it was very close to 9:00 waiting on the street was not good. Donna the Buffalo much better outside festivals. Better energy. The venue was only about 1/4 full VERY disappointing. We left before the 1st set ended about 30 minutes into their set. I quess the 1st act set a bad feel for the night. We were glad to leave.

    DTB

by Fitthen on 2/14/11Water Street Music Hall - Rochester

First off I can say that I have never seen a bad show by DTB. The show started on a high note and ended on a high and quite frankly the show moved along so quickly I did not realize that it was 1:13 AM when things wrapped up

    meh

by jmac112 on 12/11/10The Intersection - Grand Rapids

A disjointed playlist that never really built to anything fine - a listless and uninspired Jeb - and a crowd that didn't much want to dance - made this forgettable. Tara was strong, tho. I'll see 'em next time around (hey all, come to Wheatland in '11, eh!?!)

Intimate atmosphere, engaged crowd, minor technical difficulties at the start seemed to push the band to a higher level throughout the remainder of the night. Blissful jams, great friends, and cold beer, the perfect storm. Always leave a Donna show with a 5-star shit grin, and this one was no different.
