About

Donna The Buffalo is not just a band, rather one might say that Donna The Buffalo has become a lifestyle for its members and audiences. Since 1989, the roots rockers have played thousands of shows and countless festivals including Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, Telluride, Austin City Limits Festival, Merle Fest, and Philadelphia Folk Festival.

They've opened for The Dead and have toured with Peter Rowan, Del McCoury, Los Lobos, Little Feat, Jim Lauderdale, Rusted Root, and Railroad Earth to name a few. They also toured with Ben & Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen to help raise awareness about increased corporate spending in politics.

In 1991, the band started the Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg, NY. The four day festival has become an annual destination for over 15,000 music lovers every year and was started as an AIDS benefit. It continues as a benefit for arts and education. To date, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and is now one of three Grassroots Festivals; the Bi-annual Shakori Hills fest in North Carolina and Virginia Key festival in Florida. In 2016 GrassRoots Culture Camp was introduced in Trumansburg, New York as four days of music, art, dance and movement workshops, including nightly dinners and dances.

    Donna rocked the Tralf!

by The Fog on 4/6/22Tralf - Buffalo

Can you even count the number of shows you've seen over the years at the Tralf? Surely not enough, I'd venture to say. Donna the Buffalo is always a fun time for sure! They did not disappoint at this final show at the Tralf.

The band was great and fun to watch but....distortion

by Eddie on 1/2/22Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

SR system has one or more blown drivers in the right stack. Awful sounding to me and really annoying and ruined it for me even after moving to different locations on the floor. Not the band's fault but the sound technicians should have noted it and tried to disconnect the guilty speakers. PV Concert hall should fix their equipment if they want me back.

by Elaine on 11/9/21Jefferson Theater - Charlottesville

Met some friends at The Jefferson to see Donna the Buffalo ~ my husband and I had never been. We LOVED it!!!! Great venue and not too crowded :) Especially loved that I could dance down front then go up to the balcony and watch from there!!!! Not a bad seat in the house ~ very cozy and the acoustics were FABULOUS!!!!!!

    Sore from dancing

by Newbie on 1/7/20Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

This show was amazing! I've seen them a bunch of times but this time seemed different, a good different. Tara was on FIRE!! Their jams got pretty psychedelic at times and everyone in our party had an absolute blast, as always. The PV Music Hall is a great venue with this layout to allow a little seating but also plenty of room to shake your bones.

Donna The Buffalo is one of the best!

by PeggyO on 1/5/20Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Love this band, we try and see them when they come down and this venue is awesome. Clean, nice bar but could use more variety! Great vibe and so much better then Funky Biscuit where they don't start playing until so late. The band is always such fun and I'm still sore from non stop dancing....

    Facility not prepared

by Jaketheflake on 1/5/20Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

While Donna the Buffalo always gets an A+ for their performance, the Abdo Room at the BPAC gets an F. When we arrived there was no seating provided, then the staff brought out seating for a limited few. I’m sorry, either everyone stands or everyone sits. Considering the average age of attendees it should have been the latter.

Outstanding group of musicians. One of the hardest working bands I've ever experienced.

Donna The Buffalo Deserves to be WAY more than a Cult Band

by bemiller328 on 1/2/19Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

OK, so I'm very biased about these guys. Been seeing them for years now, and have probably been to about 30 shows. I'm older...a veteran of seeing literally hundreds of shows from hundreds of bands. That said, DTB has a crowd vibe that reminds me of seeing the Dead in the early days. They are phenomenally tight and relate to their audience in a way you don't always see. They play a different set from their extensive repertoire every night and mix from a variety of styles from jam to blues to bluegrass to zydeco to straight ahead rock and pop. Tara and Jeb are both amazing songwriters and the other musicians in the band are incredible. I'm happy that I get to see these guys in smaller venues and festivals but they deserve to be in front of a lot larger of an audience. The recent show in Ponte Vedra at the Concert Hall was one of the most energetic and tight sets I've ever heard from them. A lot from the new album (which is in my humble opinion their best studio effort to date) comprised a large percentage of the show, but was welcomed by the crowd. As far as I am concerned, these guys are a don't miss. And if you like great jam music you will be well served to go see these guys at every occasion. I already have my tix to see them in March at Springfest. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

The least interesting DtB show I've ever seen

by RoscoeB on 9/25/17U.S. Cellular Stage at the Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

I have seen Donna the Buffalo many times, and this was by far the worst show ever. Not just the uninspired and seemingly distracted band, but poor sound system and a house at best one-third full. I actually found myself sitting down at a Donna show, can you believe it? Guess I'll know better and wait for them to come around at one of the many outdoor festival shows!

    Dancing @ the Bijou

by HOGHEADGRIMES on 9/25/17U.S. Cellular Stage at the Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

we had a great time, the crowd was our age. the band was very good, we saw the group several years ago @ the Loveless Barn outside of Nashville. we had seats in the third row, but it doesn't matter, everyone ends up in front of the stage, dancing their ass off. I didn't do any dancing, but i did get into the music. the band was great, i'm a bass player,so i enjoyed the Bass player,he was good, loud as hell and got into it Big Time. I guess we were the Baby Bommer Crowd,9-1 over 60 and having a great time

    Disappointed

by Mojomaker on 1/2/17Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

The main reason we attended was for Donna The Buffalo. The Trucks band was good but the sets lasted too long. Then we were so disappointed that Donna the Buffalo had completely changed their genre. Hadn't heard them in a year and was expecting the kind of music they play at festivals. Everything was different. We left after 45 minutes after Donna the Buffalo hit the stage. The whole evening was uncomfortable due to the lack of seating. Four hours on your feet is a tough call. However the food at the food truck was delicious. Wine was really bad.

    Intimate Show with DTB

by Anonymous on 10/7/16Cohoes Music Hall - Cohoes

This is a great venue (small, renovated theatre), with room to dance as well as sit. The Nellies opened with some rousing bluegrass, then Donna the Buffalo brought down the house with their usual excellent performance. I heard several songs I'd never heard before; guess I'll have to catch up on their latest albums.

    Great Night Of Zydeco Bluegrass

by Meanole on 1/4/16Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Had a great night, as always, at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Very impressed with the last few shows I have seen here. Of course it can't be bad when they book great musicians like DTB.
