    Al Stewart was great!

    by Ellen D on 8/10/23

I wish Al Stewart could have been the headliner instead of Don MacLean! His part of the show was fun! His saxophone player was terrific! However Don MacLean was a bummer! The depressing songs you never heard of were 5 minutes long! One chorus was "save yourself"another said "I've grown old missing you"! He saved American pie for the end like 3 songs too late!

    Strange Brew

    by Bongo on 8/10/23

Beautiful venue. Old time music pavilion on the beach boardwalk. The concert was accompanied by a monster thunder and lightning storm. Al Stewart opened the show. He didn't seem to know where he was but played all his hits with his solid backing band. Didn't disappoint. Don McLean played all his hits and songs by his greatest influences from the American songbook, including Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash. The show wrapped with a roaring, rousing American Pie with all the lights up and the crowd on their feet singing along with every word.

    Pretty good.

    by K. on 8/8/23

Disappointed he didn’t sing Vincent. We did enjoy most of the rest of the show.

I love a concert featuring 70's and 80's artist but

    by Disappointed on 8/8/23

This was a disappointing show. Mclean has limited personality, treated his band members poorly (Who were all performing w/o emotion) and had difficulty tuning his guitar in real time to the point he came up with very vulgar language. He looked at his watch all night and when he finally got to American Pie he sang it in a very strange version that the audience could not even sing along! And he never played Vincent! We love to see the same artists over and over f rom year to year as they tour thru the greater boston area but we will miss the next Mclean concert

    Expectations

Once we successfully got tickets from the box-office (ticketmaster’electronic version still in space disgraceful) Session was very interesting and enjoyed the session - little short compared with other shows we have attended

    Don McLean was sisappointing

    by Jean O on 8/8/23

He seemed quite depressed, looked bad ie clothing and hairdo. Didn’t seem to care about his appearance. Musically, had a little trouble too.

    Boring.

    by Clarice on 8/8/23

Boring, until he did American Pie for the last song. We were waiting for Vincent but he didn’t play it

Worth It For American Pie Alone!

    by Jill Whalen on 7/24/23

To be able to sit right in front of Don McLean and have him look at you while he sang "American Pie"was an experience of a lifetime! The Birchmere is a great small venue!

    EXCELLENT!

by Candy on 9/21/22Martha's Vineyard Performing Arts Center - Oak Bluffs

I am 65 years old. I have been to many concerts over the years and esp when I was in high school living near the Boston area in Newton MA. This was truly one of the best concerts I've ever seen. To even think I might have missed it is unthinkable. All the information relayed during the concert was interesting and many facts I wasn't even aware of. My boyfriend managed the Paradise Club in Boston in the late 70s early 80s and he was also saying it was one of the best shows he has seen. .

    enjoyable concert

    by K. S. on 9/10/22Goodyear Theater - Akron

First of all, the Goodyear Theater is a comfortable, small venue that really lends itself to concerts like this. Not a bad seat anywhere and the sound is good, so its a nice, intimate experience. McLean's voice is still good (although it seems to have matures a little since the original recording of American Pie) and plays a nice mix of music. We are glad that we went.

Played way to little. Venue was nice.

by Joe on 9/5/22Goodyear Theater - Akron

I would love to here more stories. To many Elvis songs. Show was way to short for price of tickets.

    Should have stayed home

by None on 9/5/22Goodyear Theater - Akron

Thought it would be more folk/rock and less country/Elvis songs… Way too expensive for what we got😕😕 Only highlight was being able to hear and sing American Pie with him.

Just what I was hoping for

by Bike Somewhere on 9/5/22Goodyear Theater - Akron

What an enjoyable evening. Don McLean was simply excellent. The concert started on time. The sound system did not make your seat vibrate. Don is a storyteller, as well as a singer/songwriter. His set included old favorites as well as newer songs, and he covered Elvis and Roy Orbison to name a few. American Pie brought the audience to its feet, singing along with every word. I could have listened for hours.

Songs were great, voice was not

by SteveJ on 9/5/22Goodyear Theater - Akron

So wonderful to hear all those great songs, hear the stories behind them, and sing along with him (especially on American Pie). So sad that his formerly beautiful voice is no longer anywhere near its previous form.

    Amazing Show From A Legend

by David on 9/5/22Goodyear Theater - Akron

What an amazing show from a legendary performer and songwriter. At age 76 he really performed well and what a treat to see and hear him. His band was fabulous and the intimate setting of the Goodyear Theatre was great. Not a bad seat in the house! Why in the world is this music legend not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame????

Saw Don and company last weekend on Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

by EZ on 8/23/22Martha's Vineyard Performing Arts Center - Oak Bluffs

Don McLean’s concert was incredible! His unbelievable journey through rock and roll history was a journey I will never forget. As well as playing his own songs, he played those of others: Elvis, Sinatra, Roy Orbison, Perry Como, Drake and others, many of which he had penned. Don finished up with the historic American Pie. With the Audience singing along, he knocked it out of the park! Don’t miss this show. EZ

    5Oth Anniversary American Pie Concert!

by Livin’ the dream! on 7/26/22Victory Theatre - Evansville

OK, Mr. Don- American Pie is your signature song- and THAT song you perform with the greatest of ease! It is wonderful! Play it THREE, FOUR, FIVE times a concert and the FANS will ROAR in DELIGHT. Please let go of “Crying” and “Starry Starry Night”. There are times in those hit songs that are just painful to hear. and so many of the other songs are so obscure to most of your fans. You’ve been singing for a good long time and have earned MANY well deserved ACCOLADES. But, A 45 city concert tour in the US and then you’re looking at a 35 concert tour in Europe?!? That’s nuts. You’ve got no place to go but DOWN DOWN DOWN. I do have GREAT respect for your successful career, but it’s time to STOP this rigorous schedule and enjoy your own music without touring. NOW, your guitar, fellow concert Guitarists( WOW!) and your Pianist( WOW WEE‼️) are AMAZING- NO LOSS of talent there. I know that you make Big Bucks doing concerts and I would think that your 27 yo girlfriend might need a big allowance, but your net worth( through your OWN good judgement and decision making!) is surely substantial enough for you to cut back a bit and enjoy life.
