    Enjoyed the evening

by Don on 2/13/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

We had a wonderful evening. It started with dinner at Ling and Louie and then into the concert venue. Dinner was very good and the prices were not too bad. Drinks in the venue were more expensive and limited (not unusual) and getting them during the concert was not feasible, so we were limited to one drink before we sat down. The concert was wonderful, Don McLean gave a very good performance and shared a lot of background that was interesting. Truly the only real issue for the evening was the chairs in the venue, somewhat snug for the larger folks and the cup holder was incorporated into the arm so if the was a beverage, every time I went to hold my wife's hand, I would have adjust my arm to avoid the cup. Overall, the ticket value was good for the venue and artist and we would attend another show at the concert hall.

Very good to see Don in person

by JimS on 2/13/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

He did quite a few of his hit songs, including of course American Pie and Vincent. I was kind of hoping he'd do Empty Chairs, but it was still very good and worth going to.

    Blast from the past

by LB on 2/13/24Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

The venue was relatively small. We could see really well. Don and the band were good. It was so nice to hear him sing his hit songs and others. We thoroughly enjoyed the show. We sang along with Miss American Pie! Vincent was my favorite.

American Boy sings American Pie and More

    by TMcW on 2/11/24

McLean has been at this for more than 50 years. He and his band started on time and played a mixture of blues, country, rock and pop/folk. Don is an accomplished musician and that came out during some solo efforts on his acoustic guitar. His band was very good as well, most of them have been with him for 20 years or longer. The set ran about 90 minutes and that’s a fair gig for him and his audience. He played both Vincent and ended with a rousing version of American Pie which had the crowd on its feet. At the beginning he sounded a little “rusty” and said it had been a while since he had played but he warmed up but the 3rd song. He also told stories from over the years. Some I knew, some I did not. The venue was a good casino/showroom theater format. Sound was excellent and he commented on it a couple of times. McLeans’s book of songs go so far behind these two classics and his breadth of knowledge about American Music (which he makes reference to several times in the show) is astounding. Well worth it to see a living legend knock it out of the park one more time. The only missed star here was a noticeably out of tune guitar he finally got around to tuning and a little slow of a start up. Other from that- a really good show !

    not satisfied

    by andrea on 8/28/23

I'm from Italy and during my holliday in USA went to Boston just to see McLean for the first time as American Pie is one of my favorite cd. I've found a Don McLean listless, maybe due to a dull audience and a strangely half-empty hall. However....I think that an artist should respect those who bought the ticket. No bis end no Vincent ...it wasn't in American Pie album ....? :-(

    American Music Icon

    by Mark on 8/24/23

I had a great time. Brown County Music Center is a great venue. It was amazing hearing Don perform Miss American Pie. Such an iconic song. He performed music from a variety of genres. His back up musicians were also incredible.

    Fun Concert

    by RJ on 8/22/23

We enjoyed our favorites and we enjoyed songs we had not heard. Turning lights up and letting us all sing along to American Pie was wonderful. But the concert music did not have to be so loud. Getting old, I guess.

    Don McLean was awesome

    by Brian D on 8/22/23

Don McLean sounded great. He played for 90 minutes. Played some blues, older country, and of course his big 3-Crying, Vincent, and American Pie. To hear him sing American Pie was incredible. The Brown County Music Center is incredible. Great sound and not a bad seat.

Great way to see and hear a legend

    by robthenoun on 8/22/23

It was a delight to experience the legendary Don McLean in person in such an intimate setting, Brown County Music Center. His voice was as strong as always, and his set selection was very good. McLean slayed "Crying"and he did "Vincent"great justice as the lyrical masterpiece that it is. The show-ending "American Pie"was a crowd-slaying version, that McLean extended into a fabulous sing-along that quickly brought the crowd to its feet.

    All music!

    by Con on 8/22/23

Lots of music! Enough talking to introduce songs, but not too much. Good blues music as well as other McClean songs, an Elvis song, and Ernest Tubbs. All fun! Ended with American Pie in a fun way!

    Sensational

    by Sabrina on 8/22/23

I love going to Brown County Music Center in Nashville Indiana! The people who greet you from parking all the way to seating you, are always very patient and very nice. I saw Don McLean at Hanover College, Hanover, IN about 30 years ago. When American Pie played, I bounced up on my feet clapping and singing! After a bit I realized that I was the only one standing!! I was very self-conscious, but I continued dancing from my seat anyway. I was teary-eyed several times during the Nashville concert, as even after the many many times he has sang these songs, he still put so much heart into them. I stood up again during American Pie, singing and dancing....but this time so did everyone else! It was so dang cool!!! Loved it!

    Not What You Think

    by S. R. on 8/20/23

Let me start by saying I thought I was going to see an artist from the rock n’ roll era. What I got was blues and country, neither of which I have paid money to see. We left after the 5 song when it became apparent that we were going to hear obscure songs of other genres until the very end of the concert and wasn’t worth sitting and listening to the likes of Ernest Tubbs. Very disappointing. Guitar was out of tune as was some of his vocals. The band themselves were talented but looked like they were bored. Save your money and listen to your favorite songs on your favorite music venue.

    Don McLean should stop performing

    by concert goer on 8/13/23

I don't think Don Mc Lean actually sang one song. Rather, he talked /sang his way through. He has ruined every song on the American Pie album for me forever.

    What a great show !!!!!

    by pdq on 8/10/23

Al Stewart was simply wonderful. Fantastic personality. Only did 6 songs. would have liked much more. His voice is the same after 50 years. Close your eyes and go back in time Don McLean. What can I say. An AMERICAN legend. The song American Pie for the finale was super with the whole audience joining in. BUT I love his music. What a great songwriter. Would like to hear more of his original music. Just bought Botanical Garden. Love it. People can say what they want, but the old guys that have been around forever and who I grew up with, are still great. PERIOD. Had a great time and would like to see them again.

    loved him!

    by masher591 on 8/10/23

I first saw Don McLean at Montclair State (NJ) the week that American Pie hit #1 - my brother-in-law was Concert Chairman and I was in HS -I fell in love with his music then, and 50 yrs later, I still listen to him. The songs mean different things to me now, but the memories are the same. Many thanks for a wonderful concert

Al was much better connecting to the audience. Don’s voice is old but of course so is Don. But it was all fun.

Al Stewart & Don McLean - Great Show!

    by BigBassBill on 8/10/23

Al Stewart being the consummate singer/songwriter & storyteller that he is gave an excellent performance fueled by his backing band the Empty Pockets who were flawless. Don McLean took us on a musical journey to the past with songs by Elvis, Roy Orbison & Johnny Cash as well as his own selections culminating of course in a complete version of American Pie. The venue had very good sound, but visually the seats I had were semi-blocked by a pillar and due to a lack of pitch in the floor, seeing the artists proved strenuous. Thankfully there was a large screen monitor which showed the stage well once they corrected the focus during Al’s set. I’d gladly return to the venue but never in the rear section, as it needs some sort of pitch elevation, perhaps aluminum risers? At any rate, it was a trip down memory lane and certainly one well worth taking!
