"We've got a large band on stage here tonight. It's not very profitable, but it sure is fun. And we need to have fun now, because the world has gone absolutely batshit crazy!"
And with that, Don Henley and his band were off and running! Every solo and Eagles hit you'd want to hear, they played. "Seven Bridges Road" kicked it off to wild applause, then straight into "Dirty Laundry" and "Sunset Grill". They played three (good) songs from Henley's 2015 album "Cass County", and the rest were all familiar hits from the 90's and earlier: End of the Innocence, Heart of the Matter, In A New York Minute, a hard, bluesy, horn-filled Witchy Woman, "a song for my very dear friend, Glenn Frey" (Peaceful Easy Feeling) and one of the highlights for me : "a song we rarely performed live with the Eagles, because we didn't have the personnel" (The Last Resort, which was absolutely beautiful).
The only hiccup was "One Of These Nights" where Henley's nearly 70-year-old voice had trouble hitting the high notes.
The ending rocked out:
Everybody Wants To Rule The World (yes, the Tears For Fears song from '85)
Boys Of Summer
Life In The Fast Lane
Hotel California
Encores:
Wasted Time
Desperado
All She Wants To Do Is Dance (and everyone was)
We never got to see the Eagles, but this show came pretty damn close. Henley is a pro and his band is tight. Highly recommended!!!
