  • Distant Worlds was spectacular!

I went to the 25th anniversary version of Distant Worlds. The event was extra special because it was the only one in North America. Amazing atmosphere. I cannot wait to see Distant Worlds again.

  • Distant Worlds really takes you to another place..

As a long time fan of Nobuo Uematsu and the Final Fantasy series, I may be a little biased when I say that this is the most enjoyable show I've ever been to. The concert celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series was brilliantly sequenced, playing songs from each game in order of when the game was released. Many of my favorite works were performed, including a new arrangement of the Final Fantasy VI opera scene that left me in tears. I would recommend any fan of the series, old and new, to see a Distant Worlds show.

It was a wonderful presentation of music from the Final Fantasy video game series.

Outstanding performance...generates a lot of nostalgia for fans of the FF series. Nobuo Uematsu's beautiful pieces take on new life when performed by a symphonic orchestra. Worth the money.

  • Just incredible

A night I will never forget. Such a wonderful experience. This was my second Distant Worlds concert (had seen them previously in Toronto), but with the sheer number of musicians on board, plus rumblings of new compositions included, I had to make this trip. The song selection was overall awesome, with all Final Fantasy titles getting at least a song. The one I had seen previously was dominated by FF7 and 8, so it was surprising that 7 only had one full song (One Winged Angel of course), and half of the battle theme as part of a medley, and 8 only had 2 songs (the heavily overused Don't Be Afraid, and Eyes on Me). Overall, the balance was terrific. There was an AMAZING new rendition of the chocobo theme, featuring the themes from FF5 and 13, complete with hilarious use of the chorus. FF6's opera has been given an overhaul, and it turned what was once a great 12 minute song, into an even better, incredible 16 minute epic. The lead male singer needed to be a bit closer to the mic, but all the singers for the opera were great, and the chorus adding in towards the end built to a wonderful finale. The wonderful Susan Calloway was on hand, and did a great job on Eyes on Me, and REALLY brought the house down with FF14's "Answers." This is truly an incredible song, and Calloway gave it a thrilling performance. My 4 favorite tracks of the evening were this, Not Alone from FF9, Battle of the 4 fiends from FF4, and the aforementioned Opera. The main theme of FF5 was also a great new addition to the catalog of songs. Another nice touch was the little "intimate evening" segment in the lobby beforehand, with Arnie and Nobuo playing Dark World, and another chocobo medley with a handful of players. The theater was a great host, no bad seats in the house (I was towards the back), I would go back in a second. Overall, an incredible evening, and I would love to go to another show.

I came from Italy to see this concert and I was delighted of what I saw. This was my first concert in my life and it was really great. Nobuo Uematsu was there too, it was just amazing.

The event was my very first time going to Distant Worlds. I had very high expectations of which I was not in the least bit surprised. The music was truly enjoyable, and the atmosphere and entertainment were well worth the price.

  • A Celebration of Final Fantasy

by Islagatt on 12/10/12Akoo Theatre at Rosemont - RosemontRating: 5 out of 5

This Distant Worlds concert was a celebration of Final Fantasy's 25th year anniversary. It was a heartfelt and masterful expression of love for the franchise that has given it's fans so much joy over so many years. Answers was performed with the benefit of Susan Callaway and the actual final cutscene of Final Fantasy XIV (the ending to the first version of the game) edited to fit the expanded song. I cannot say enough positive about the orchestra who performed everything with a stirring loyalty to the source material, even their own debut medleys, the Chocobo and Battle Medleys 2012 felt very true to the spirit of the franchise. Most importantly they celebrated the leading composer of most of Final Fantasy's music, Nobuo Uematsu, who was brought on stage at several points to help introduce new segments of the concert. Overall I can say without reservation that the night was fantastic. But I have one important note: Don't sit in the cheapseats. It's hard as heck to see anything and the concert has a big visual component.

  • Distant Worlds will always be near to my heart.

Absolutely stellar performance. The venue was pretty good, but the orchestra was stunning. I will cherish this event forever.

  • Fantastic Experience for any Fan

If you are a fan of Final Fantasy, this is a FANTASTIC show. Hearing the songs you've heard before by a complete orchestra can just send chills down your spine. Even if you haven't heard some of the songs, they still sound amazing. I had a fantastic time, and they even had events going on in the lobby beforehand. Truly this was a wonderful experience.

  • Spine Tingling Experience

by C0r3y on 12/10/12Akoo Theatre at Rosemont - RosemontRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first Distant Worlds Concert and will not be my last. The performance was amazing and sent chills down your spine when you hear one of your favorite songs. We got to meet Nobuo Uematsu after the concert. And got free autographed posters. Worth every penny and every mild driven/flown. aside from meeting Nobuo; being surrounded by so many people who care about Final Fantasy and its music as much as you do. Everyone was So happy and enthusiastic. It felt like you knew everyone already.

  • Wow. Just wow.

by generalceles on 12/10/12Akoo Theatre at Rosemont - RosemontRating: 5 out of 5

It is quite the thing to go from listening to the FFVI opera in your parents' basement when you're a kid on a mono CRT to hearing it done in its entirety live. The "Battle of the Four Fiends" was awesome too. All in all, a night I'm never going to forget. That being said, the merch sales were abysmal. Nerds at this kind of concert are generally nerds with money, people. Make it easy for us to spend it and have a bigger selection of stuff.

If you didn't go, you missed an outstanding concert. The Chicago Pops Orchestra was great and the orchestrations were tremendous. The audience was really into the video show and musical presentations. Speaking as a fellow musician, the evening was wonderful and memorable.
