    Mae West an Intriguing Character

by LoveBroadwaySongs on 8/18/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

The three actors in Dirty Blonde were excellent. The writing was interesting, too, weaving in a modern story and juxtaposing it with biographical information about Mae West. It held my attention and had emotional depth. I just was expecting something a little different. I guess I was misinformed, thinking there would be at least one big production number, a la "real" Broadway. If you go expecting basically a straight play with a little music, you'll be fine.

    Dirty Blonde

    by Sealane888 on 8/17/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

Dirty Blond is a rowdy, revealing, and entertaining show. It depicts Mae West from 1912 when she started in show business until her geriatric years when she refused to retire. Her claim to fame was the exuberance of sex,.... suggestive gestures.... and language that the Hayes Committee tried to control. The show contains three characters who have complete control of the audience. Never for one minute are you not engrossed in the performances of their characterizations. If you want a pleasant theater experience,....and a smile on your face,... see Dirty Blonde at the Signature Theater.

    Dirty Blond was totally enjoyable

by Nepalhiker on 8/17/09Signature Theatre - Arlington

What a hoot. How can you not like this Mae West play (particularly when Mae is played by Emily Skinner). All I can say is "When she is good, she is really, really good, but when she is bad, she is better". Tee hee. Then, of course, when the play is set at the Signature Theatre in Shirlington, how better can it be.

    Dirty Blonde

The show was beautifully written, directed, staged, and performed. All three actors were fantastic and "spot on" in their MANY characterizations. Mae would be proud!!!
