    Dimmu was awesome

by hfordno1 on 11/15/10Northern Lights - Clifton Park

Great overall concert. Good opening acts, especially Enslaved. I had never seen Dimmu before and they did not disappoint. One of the best performances I have seen in a while.

Unfortunately missed the openers but caught the entire sets of Enslaved and Dimmu Borgir. Enslaved played mostly from their new album Ethica Odini and demonstrated technical prowess and great musicality pulling the crowd into their performance. Dimmu Borgir's set was visually more striking, employing an elaborate light show and dramatically evil costuming. Unfortunately the soundguy for Dimmu had the drums turned up too much and the rest of the band's sound was overpowered. The soundman for Enslaved did a more effective job at balancing the different musicians which might be why I though Enslaved sounded much better live than Dimmu. Overall a great show and a must see for all black and progressive metal fans!

    dimmu/enslaved

enslaved as been on the next rung down from dimmu when it comes to my favorite bands , but i think they really gave dimmu a run for there money and sounded better than dimmu you got muddy as the set went on, enslaved exceeded my expectations and dimmu was a slight let down, so the four starts is for the overall experience, where enslaved had dimmu was in the over all energy and melody, while dimmu was more punishing and their from the vader skins man stole the show, the new keyboardist from the kovenant was a nice replacement for mutiss but ics vortex's absence was really feel had and though the new album works with out him he is more sorely missed in the lack of clean vocals , lending some songs to be absent from the set, dimmu seemed to be in a foul mood , and shaarth ,seem to really be tiring by the end of their set, they aren'ta band that can just go through the motions as so much depends on their energy, when they were on though the rocked, with dimmu borgir from their new albuim being the high higlight , as born treacherous , was a little lack luster , and gateways missing the melodic bombast with backing tracks handling the clean vocals

I purchased the tickets for a friend of mine and he went to teh show. From his reactions afterwards and how much fun he had, i say it was a great show. All of the acts and performers gave a lot to the show. Dimmu Borgir was in rare form I heard and their fans were not disappointed.

Possibly the best show I've seen all year

by DerBrooklyner on 11/10/10Terminal 5 - New York

I only got to the show in time to see Enslaved and Dimmu, so I can't speak to the opening acts (although I heard from my more punctual brother that Blood Red Throne was awesome), but what I did see was absolutely stunning from the first note. Saying that this was possibly the best show of the year is quite a lot for me as only a few days ago I believed I had seen the greatest show in my 16 metalhead years in March (Immortal at the Masonic Temple: WOW). Enslaved immediately floored me and the rest of the crowd by launching into Ethica Odinni, which I have not been able to get out of my head since. The bass-heavy sound of the venue made this track absolutely crushing, and the remainder of the set did not let me down, ranging fully from old school chainsaw black metal, to psychadelically prog material ("Ground") from Vertebrae. Strong cheers for "one more song" followed Enslaved's well-earned bow. Needless to say I bought the album immediately after the show, where Grutle was signing autographs, standing right next to the merch table. I had not heard anything from Dimmu's new album and wasn't particularly excited to see them (but since they were awesome the other two times I saw them and paired with Enslaved, I had to come). Despite losing Vortex, Mustis, and Hellhammer in the last 2 years, this might have been the best I've seen from them! Even while lacking Vortex they did excellent renditions of The Serpentine Offering, Progenies, and other tracks I was afraid would be missing. The bass for their set was up even higher than Enslaved's so Puritania and Mourning Palace were unbelievably heavy, and yet the keyboards and guitar leads were still surprisingly audible. They played 4 or 5 songs from the new album (all in a row!), and they were simply excellent live (especially Gateways). I will now be picking up that album asap (it wasn't on sale at the merch table!!). All told, their set was excellent but didn't go all the way back to Stormblast like I had hoped- but they had tracks from Death Cult Armageddon, Spiritual Black Dimensions, and the other 90's classics. Shagrath and Galder worked the crowd and the whole band put on a great show. My neck is absolutely killing me, but you can't help but bang your head at a show like this.

    Excellent performance + Venue!

by JGatesNYC on 11/10/10Terminal 5 - New York

All 4 bands put on a great show. The sound was excellent, not on overdrive. I could hear every note and also feel every kick drum. Crowd wasn't overly wild but had plenty of energy. Parking was directly across the street at $35.00. Staff was friendly, bathroom lines moved fast. I would totally go back to this venue.

by 1SMC on 11/8/10Northern Lights - Clifton Park

It was a great show. First time going to Nothern Lights; which was a great place. I got to the front row by force by the mosh behind me which worked good; it gave me a chance to get great pictures. :D
