The setting is 1874 Vienna. Things have been set in motion before the curtain rises on Die Fledermaus, that most effervescent of operettas. The recipient of a practical joke while in a drunken haze after a college party, it has taken young Dr. Falke three years to figure out how to get back at his friend Eisenstein for the prank. The perfect forum is provided by the outlandish Russian Prince Orlofsky, who rolls into town and invites Falke to a sumptuous party on New Year’s Eve. The guests arrive under an assortment of false pretenses, culminating in the unwitting Eisenstein flirting shamelessly with his own wife in disguise as a Hungarian countess. Amidst much waltzing and champagne consumption, he gets a taste of his own medicine, delivered in large doses by Dr. Falke.

Great performance . Elizabeth Hastings as conductor and director --amazing!
The opera was excellent. The preprogram lecture was highly insightful and well done. It really enhanced my enjoyment of the opera.
Fine performance! Having sung with Florentine many times in the past it was gratifying to once again experience the quality of their production. Theirs was the standard translation from German to English with wonderful ad libs which probably were developed during rehearsals, asides, character interaction with the audience, and changes in lines which gave the show freshness, life, and were appropriate for the venue. Well sung, fine conducting by Maestro Rescigno, excellent playing and comic relief from the orchestra, standard but well interpreted staging, good sets. All in all a good time; very highly recommended. Very fine venue with outstanding acoustics, and sight lines.
This opera needs sharp humor and Florentine provided it in spades. Voices all top notch and lyrical treatment of the score from the Maestro. Movement is critical and the dance director had done a fine, innovative job. Seen lots of Fledermaus. But, this bat really flew!
To some, 'Carmen' is the world's sexiest opera. This one was sexy too. All the singers were in tip-top form. They were young; they looked good and sang well and were not afraid of sexual innuendo. The orchestra sounded good. Everything about the performance was just fine.
Good show the set design and costumes were well done. The music was great and it was funny.
Excellent show, music and singing was wonderful, easy to follow
It was hard to enjoy this as a first opera. While the performances were wonderful (full bodied voices from all), the plot was weak and the music lacked any memorable moments...except the bit of waltz in the party scene. Call it a weakness from the uninitiated. The part that we liked the least, however, was the jarring entry of Poison Waters. There was nothing about it that fit. First of all, I didn't pay to see a drag queen, although I'm sure she is a very good one. I didn't enjoy her humor, which mocked some of my own personally held values. And I really resented her blatant advertisement for her product. I paid a lot of money for those tickets. I did not appreciate a commercial for something I have no interest in. Wish I'd waited and gone to Carmen. There was probably no need for comic relief in that classic tragedy. I'm just sorry they felt it was needed for this comedy.
The performance was amazing. The special appearance of Poison Waters was a nice surprise.
