DEVO on Tour

Often misunderstood, but nevertheless iconic, new-wave synth band DEVO is back for their 2022 tour, marking their first tour across the United States in eight years. Known best for the smash hit "Whip It" (1980), the Akron, Ohio, band is slated to hit four cities across the country. The band has released 11 studio albums, with their debut, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are DEVO! coming from Warner Bros label in 1978. They would go on to release five albums in the next five years; however, none were able to capture a mainstream audience like their debut. "Whip It" reached as high as No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the accompanying music video was received as a culture shock to the system, sending waves through the MTV generation, which elevated the band's fame. DEVO is heralded by their fans for concert performances that deliver high energy, alluring visual effects and innovative music from decades ago that still feels fresh.

DEVO in Concert

Musicians Gerald Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh were friends at Kent State University in the 1970s. The art majors, and another acquaintance, Bob Lewis, who was band-member-turned-manager became friends through a similar dark social humor that was often unconventional and offbeat. They agreed on a philosophy that society had actually been undergoing a "de-evolution" that rejected individuality or quirkiness. Thus, the robo-rhythmic group DEVO was born in the late 1970s, and with it a genre of new wave techno-pop. The group had their breakthrough with the film score for the local short, The Truth About De-Evolution, winning First Prize at the 1976 Ann Arbor Film Festival. In attendance at the festival were David Bowie and Iggy Pop, who helped DEVO secure a label contract with Warner Bros. Although their debut album caught on as an underground success, the group was also met with pushback. Some saw the band's non-conformist style as threatening. Rolling Stone magazine even labeled the group as fascists in an initial review of the album. Despite this, their third album, Freedom of Choice, and its premier single "Whip It" catapulted the group into the forefront of pop music as it was one of the most successful singles of 1980.

  • Outstanding Performance

by Glen Miller on 7/1/25The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

DEVO is simply amazing. It's hard to believe they formed over fifty years ago. They sound awesome and their stage presence is spectacular. They know how to entertain a crowd. And the venue, The Fillmore in Detroit is an incredible place with outstanding acoustics. It was an absolute pleasure to finally see DEVO live. Are we not men? We are DEVO

  • Good concert, poor seating.

by JR on 7/1/25The Fillmore Detroit - DetroitRating: 4 out of 5

The 4 block line to get in took so long the concert started 20 minutes late. Great concert but it was short and had no encore. The seating was terrible. The spacing between rows was literally too narrow (3 to 4 inches) for ANYONE to sit so our entire section had to stand for the entire show.

  • Great show

by Jdelk on 6/29/25The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

DEVO was great! Their style of music is one of a kind, and was on full display at this show! Music with a sprinkling of performance art! Maybe a bit too much Booji Boy, but a great time was had by all!

  • Devo still got it!

  • Never thought I'd get to see DEVO live but...

by wkay99 on 6/27/25The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

I jumped at the chance to get tickets for the show at the Brady Center! Made for an excellent birthday gift for my sister and Valentine's Day gift to the hubs. Loved how many early tunes they included in the set and it was pure joy singing along and enjoying the sounds and sights of this legendary band!!

  • Devo Bucket List ✅

The show was everything that I hoped for - just a great show! They played (in my opinion) their best songs. Vocals on point and entertaining.

  • Awesome!!

by LJK09 on 6/27/25The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

It was great to finally see them perform live. I wish I’d had the opportunity 40 years ago. I wish they’d played Fresh or another song from Something Else For Everybody, but there was a lot of great music.

  • DEVO Whipped Up the Crowd!

by TeacherZ on 6/27/25The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert! Devo did not disappoint. They still have all the moves and they sounded just like 50 years ago!

  • DEVO was at their best!

by Lon on 6/27/25The Andrew J Brady Music Center - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

It was a tight performance with the band playing great with each other. Mark and Bob1 played the best I have seen on Smart Patrol when they play their solos at the same time (together). Jerry always brings it. Mark had outstanding vocals and really did some super playing on his synthesizer. The bass, rhythm and lead guitars sounded great on the songs at the end of the performance. Andrew J Brady is a great place to see a concert - good sound, good view, good video screen and comfortable seats

  • Didn’t Disappoint

Better than expected. Ninety minutes of CRAZY. Building was sold out.

They were so rockin' awesome! I have loved them for years, and this was my first chance to see them. They did not disappoint! Would go see them again in a heartbeat! They rocked so hard, it was a visual sensation, performance, and superb musicianship. This was the real deal. So grateful that I got to see them live, and I'm so glad that they are still touring-ROCK ON, guys, and DE-eVOLUTION is more important than ever! A spud and DEVO-tee for LIFE!

  • We are DEVO

by Cool Bob on 6/26/25The Factory - Saint LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Another great show at The Factory. I had a seat dead center on the back row and could see everything just fine. The sound quality was top notch. Would definitely recommend a show at this venue.

  • Fun although short night

    by Aliann26 on 6/25/25The Factory - Saint LouisRating: 4 out of 5

We reserved a hotel room and got tix to see Devo. We were both fans in the 80s and thought it woukd be a great night out! It was a great night with a sokd out show, lots of singing and dancing and all the hits! The media screen was really on point. The only negative was the abrupt end to a very short set/ show...just over an hour! We were back in our hotel room by 930pm and that was,a very early show.

  • Life changing

I've been to well over 200 concerts and this one may have been the very best. Devo played with high energy and sounded great. Very interactive and full of hits and great songs. Just fantastic.

  • My favorite band of all time did not disappoint!

by Check off my bucket list!! on 6/25/25The Factory - Saint LouisRating: 5 out of 5

I have been listening to DEVO since the early 80s, but have never seen them live. I wasn't going to miss this show. For being their 50 anniversary tour, they have not slowed down a bit. Great energy and sound great too. See them if you can!

  • The Factory Rocks!!

DEVO abdsolutely blew the lid of the joint!! My second time seeing the Spud Boys Live!! Mark and the boys still put on one hell of a show. Just wish they would have come back to the Homeland more often. The venue was awsome. The Factory is quite a cool place.

I've been a fan of Devo since I was a kid. This is the first opportunity I've had to see them live and I'm glad we did. We drove 6.5 hours to make this concert and it was totally worth it. If you have a chance to see these guys perform I highly reccomend it.
