Back in Australia for the first time since 2012, punk rock pioneers, DESCENDENTS return in February 2017 in support of their new album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate.
To say that the DESCENDENTS invented pop punk is a gross understatement. They perfected the warp-speed amalgam of adolescent angst, snotty attitude and championship melody infesting the airways today. “You can draw a straight line from their records to modern punk acts” proclaim Nerdist. They took a genre that was about spikes, chaos and anarchy, and brought it to earth, singing about girls, growing up and food.
Formed in 1978 against the fertile musical backdrop of Los Angeles’ South Bay scene (Black Flag, Minutemen etc), the caffeine-addled crew were less interested in social movements than bowel movements, with Rolling Stone declaring, “DESCENDENTS are the most playful group to emerge from the SoCal hardcore scene”.
Fast forward to 2016, and lo and behold, the DESCENDENTS are back in the saddle with the release of their first full length in 12 years, Hypercaffium Spazzinate – a nod to Descendents' well-documented coffee obsession. Sure, the guys are now writing as adults – in the loosest sense of the term, but there’s a renewed sense of punk rock energy here. It’s faster, more reckless, and more intense.
No one’s accusing the DESCENDENTS of maturity. For the better part of the band’s four-decade career, they’ve been the gold standard for puerility in pop-punk. But what do you expect from a band that pledged “Thou shalt not commit adulthood”?
Punk, pop, buzzing, summery, heartfelt, defiant, adolescent and wise all at once – The DESCENDENTS sound never gets old. Don’t miss your chance to witness live performances of classic tracks, “I’m the One”, “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up”, “Everything Sucks” and “Silly Girl”.
Tickets on sale 9am Friday 28th October. Be sure to set yourself a reminder, as tickets will go fast!
Loved the energy they brought to the stage. Would definitely see them again!
This was one of my favorite bands growing up but I never got to see them back in the day. Unlike a lot of bands from my younger days that underwhelmed me when I finally got around to seeing them, Milo and the guys absolutely killed it. The crowd (young and older) was totally into the whole show. Highly recommend seeing them.
Descendents and Circle Jerks are proof that age doesn't make a difference in your ability to entertain. These guys put on a better rock show than artists half their age. Keith and Milo 2024!
Had no idea how great these guys would be live! had just as much power and energy as i would have expected from them in 86! Great show! Brought me back to high school!
First of all, Jannus Live is a fantastic venue situated in downtown St. Petersburg just around the corner from Central Avenue where there are a great mix of wonderful bars and top notch people-watching... the music venue is fantastic. The Circle Jerks were spot on and Descendants brought it all day long. What's was most amazing was the young crowd singing the songs back to the to the bands. They loved it and the crowd was loving it too. A spectacular night in St. Petersburg!
I’ve never seen any of the three bands live before. Adolescents were phenomenal and, honestly, should have been the second band. Circle Jerks were good, but the singer wanted to give us the “history of punk” as it related to his backing band (he’s the only original member from what I gathered). It appeared to cut Descendents’ set a bit short, which sucks because they were absolutely amazing. As for Jannus Live, it’s the best venue in St. Pete. The sound is always good, as is the atmosphere.
It was a awesome show, all three bands were on it. That was probably my last gig, I have been going to see those three bands, along with many others, since the very early 80's. I met some new friends and Stubb's did a great job with the hosting the show. The only thing that could have been handled better was the Merchandise Booth, the people were helpful and very nice with considerations for my handicap, just needed more people working it.
I've seen a lot of bands at the House of Blues Dallas, and really like the venue. What made it particularly appealing was the opportunity to see these punk rock legends and have the option of reserved seats. My husband and I are not too old to enjoy a punk show, but please don't make us stand the whole time. Our view was fantastic, and it was worth every extra penny we spent to have the pit not interfere with our enjoyment of the show. It was also good to know that the others in the reserved seats with us were like us to see and hear the bands, but aren't going to get too drunk and crazy and therefore ruin the show for us. And the bands were fantastic too! All of them sounded tight and were full of energy. Amazing they are able to still pull of what they do after all these years. Sound was great and it was an overall amazing experience.
Back in 1982/83, a middle school friend gave me a cassette with three bands I didn't know, which changed my life – Southern California hardcore punk. I listened to Descendents, Circle Jerks, and Angry Samoans non-stop, inspiring me to start my own band 4to Reich, at 14 or 15. Fast forward to March 23, 2024, after over 40 years, I finally saw Descendents! Along with Circle Jerks (I had already seen them) live at the House of Blues in Dallas, along with other legends like The Adolescents. The energy of SoCal Hardcore punk is still alive, with Circle Jerks even announcing a coming new album. Punks not dead! Not yet!
The show was everything I was expecting, and more! Great set and they sound great. Adolescents and Circle Jerks were also really good. My first time at HOB Dallas and I was not overly impressed. Long line to get in and very cramped space for the show. Would see the bands again, would be less likely to go back to HOB Dallas.
First, the show was awesome. One of the best I've seen at Stubbs. Now for the not-so-great... With a sold out punk rock show, the were only 2 metal detectors and one guy with the wand. At least every other person had to get the wand, so the line ended up wrapping around the block. Second, the merch line was seriously undermanned. I stood in line for merch for over an hour, and at no point was the line any shorter. This should have been considered ahead of time.
The descendents put on one hell of a show. The set list was perfect, the crowd was hyped, the supporting bands were beyond belief, and the end result was something that will always be remembered. These songs are as powerful today as the day they were written and are being delivered with ferocity by a band firing on all cylinders.
Great venue, and awesome show! The Descendents always put on a better than expected performance!
Super, duper fun! All 3 bands were spectacular and kept the crowd goin, especially the Descendents. The venue was great since it was mainly standing. It was perfect because it allowed for a very fitting mosh pit to form. Fantastic show, I loved it and I wish it never ended! :)
To see them after seeing them in a dive bar in Wesland MI for 25 dollars 30 + years ago, they were just as amazing as ever. So glad to get to see Milo sing. I loved the show, the mix of old and new songs, seeing Bill drum again. I felt like i was in my 20's again. Bravo!
A show to remember which had amazing openers with Adolescents and Circle Jerks…..and my feet still hurts from all those moshing and pogoing
Been waiting to see these bands live for years now !! Was a perfect date night with my girlfriend and I. Bands sounded awesome , and venue was pretty posh for a punk concert (all event staff wore tuxedos). Even had a spiral marble staircase to the bathrooms hahah
The bands were great, and so were the people. Go see some live music!
This is my second time seeing the Descendents at the Roxian. They killed it! Circle Jerks were phenomenal! This was a real bucket list situation: these two (2) bands playing together in 2023. I hope they come back. I'll be there. I just won't pay for parking. That was a waste of money, as no one at the venue handled pre-paid parking. $20 wasted. I've, always, had to find parking where I could when attending shows at this venue. The "parking pass" option seemed legitimate, all things considered. Non-existent. Don't waste your money on that aspect of any purchase.
Never been to this venue before. It looked like a complete dump walking up to it. So pleasantly surprised by the interior. Modern lighting and a great view from the lower level. And, of course, The Descendents rocked the fng house. Amazing overall lineup and fantastic show.
