About

Back in Australia for the first time since 2012, punk rock pioneers, DESCENDENTS return in February 2017 in support of their new album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate.

To say that the DESCENDENTS invented pop punk is a gross understatement. They perfected the warp-speed amalgam of adolescent angst, snotty attitude and championship melody infesting the airways today. “You can draw a straight line from their records to modern punk acts” proclaim Nerdist. They took a genre that was about spikes, chaos and anarchy, and brought it to earth, singing about girls, growing up and food.

Formed in 1978 against the fertile musical backdrop of Los Angeles’ South Bay scene (Black Flag, Minutemen etc), the caffeine-addled crew were less interested in social movements than bowel movements, with Rolling Stone declaring, “DESCENDENTS are the most playful group to emerge from the SoCal hardcore scene”.

Fast forward to 2016, and lo and behold, the DESCENDENTS are back in the saddle with the release of their first full length in 12 years, Hypercaffium Spazzinate – a nod to Descendents' well-documented coffee obsession. Sure, the guys are now writing as adults – in the loosest sense of the term, but there’s a renewed sense of punk rock energy here. It’s faster, more reckless, and more intense.

No one’s accusing the DESCENDENTS of maturity. For the better part of the band’s four-decade career, they’ve been the gold standard for puerility in pop-punk. But what do you expect from a band that pledged “Thou shalt not commit adulthood”?

Punk, pop, buzzing, summery, heartfelt, defiant, adolescent and wise all at once – The DESCENDENTS sound never gets old. Don’t miss your chance to witness live performances of classic tracks, “I’m the One”, “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up”, “Everything Sucks” and “Silly Girl”.

Riot Fest East 2011 - Unforgettable!

by Jamitha on 9/26/11Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

Red Bull Riot Fest East was amazing. The stages were well set up, the times accomodated everyone's needs so it was easy to catch every band I wanted to see, and the sound was excellent! Getting to see 10+ classic punk bands all in one place in one day, for only $35 a ticket was mind blowing, and I can't wait to go again next year! Also, $5 Sailor Jerry drinks was a fantastic deal. Everyone who worked at the festival was extremely helpful and accomodatig. (All except for one female bartender in the tent - she was so rude we walked away without ordering anything, partly because we didn't want to deal with her, and also because when she informed us they had "no more" of Sailor after we saw one of the other bartenders pull 5 brand new bottles out of the box, she completely turned away from us and started asking other people what they wanted to drink. We refused to go back to the bar in the tent after that). Despite that one blip, it was, all in all, an amazing day. Lets hope Red Bull keeps this event going for years to come!

    Decendents better than ever!

by LBSFTLC on 9/26/11Roseland Ballroom - New York

Great show- music was clean, vocals were suprisingly strong. Songs were fast and true to form. Would have been nice to hear a few more songs; seemed to be over very quickly.

bands were fantastic, very impressed with the lineup considering i saw most of these guys for the first time over two decades ago. the venue was ... meh: food & drinks too expensive, too many people allowed in. the people were generally obnoxious and ridiculous, but i'm old and grumpy.

    Great Lineup!

by BradHC on 9/26/11Festival Pier (at Penn's Landing) - Philadelphia

Overall, the show was great. It was awesome to see all of those acts in one day. However, I am an audio engineer and production manager for this type of event and it was evident immediately that the main P.A. in the tent was not large enough to cover this type of music. The outdoor stage was great, but the tent needed more speakers (preferably flown). Over all I applaud the organizers for a spectacular lineup and a great day. I hope they do it again next year.

    Good Show

by heykitty on 9/25/11Roseland Ballroom - New York

It was a good show. Descendents do not come around too often, so it was nice to see. I took my two teenage daughters and they enjoyed it. The only bad thing is that there are no seats at the Roseland Ballroom - not the best situation for a for mom! Wish the Descendents played a little longer than an hour, but given the price of the ticket it was okay.

only reason I didn't give the show 5 stars was the crowd sucked. No passion for one of the greatest punk bands. Traveled from florida to see these guys. Will never see another show in NYC again. But all the bands were AMAZING!!!!

Stepping into Roseland was akin to stepping into a time machine. I went back to the late 90s, when I was listening to The Descendents, Suicide Machines, and H20 constantly with my best friends. All three bands put on a great show, and it was a real treat to see them all on the same stage.

For a band that only comes around once a decade, they sure know what they're doing. I think it's impossible for them to disappoint. They played songs from all across the 25+ years they've been making excellent music, and most of all they had as much fun as the crowd. What more can I say? ALL!

    Descendents dish out the boners

by xcharlesx on 9/25/11Roseland Ballroom - New York

Even being in the middle of late-middle age, they played perfectly, were energetic and incredible.
