About
Deftones on Tour
Deftones have long had a reputation for being a commanding live act. Vocalist Chino Moreno is an active, energetic frontman who runs and jumps around the stage as he sings, when he's not shredding on his guitar. The rest of the band churn out heavy grooves indebted to post-hardcore and alternative metal as well as modern rock–leaning faves such as The Cure (a band Moreno loves).
During their career, Deftones have gone on numerous high-profile tours, including the 2010 Blackdiamondskye trek with Mastodon and Alice in Chains, and a 2018 South American tour with post-hardcore icons Quicksand. (The latter's Sergio Vega also plays bass for Deftones.) They've performed on Warped Tour, Taste of Chaos, the Family Values Tour and Ozzfest, and appeared at major gatherings such as Lollapalooza, Pinkpop Festival, Roskilde Festival and the Soundwave Festival.
Deftones in Concert
Deftones' roots stem from the friendship of three friends: Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter and Abe Cunningham, all of whom grew up in Sacramento, California, as skateboarding and music fanatics. The trio started jamming together in the late '80s alongside other musicians, including the late bassist Chi Cheng. After honing their sound with live gigs, Deftones ended up signing a major record deal in 1994 with Madonna's Maverick Records and released their debut album, Adrenaline, the following year.
The group followed this up with 1997's Around the Fur, which cemented Deftones as a part of the burgeoning nu-metal movement. Then, starting with 2000's critically acclaimed White Pony, the band became known for boundary-stretching metal that drew on atmospheric textures and heavy riffs. White Pony spawned the alternative hit "Change (In the House of Flies)" and the song "Elite," the latter winning the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. Other notable songs followed, including "Minerva" (from 2003's self-titled album) and the title track of 2010's Diamond Eyes. Deftones continue to be a formidable touring and recording machine, and released Gore in 2016.

by DeftonesGirl on 4/30/10Concrete Street Amphitheater - Corpus ChristiThe show of course was great. The venue was awesome. The night was bright and breezy. Something about the people though. I've been to shows in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas and the closer to the Rio Grande Valley you get the meaner they are. The people are really cool especially in San Antonio. But last night in Corpus Christi as people were trying to get in and out of the pit, other fans watching the show took it personal so they pushed and shoved back and a couple of times I saw a few fights that could have been, where as in other cities people simply get out of the way and don't want to fight. Just an observation. Overall it was a bad ass show. Can't wait to see them again tonight in Mission, Texas

by the420goat on 3/31/10Axis - BostonBeen a huge deftones fan since around '96. Saw them at a Warped Tour back around '98 in Houston at the Astro Arena, so it was a massive venue. Had to crowd surf just to get to the front. Absolutely blew my mind. Years later, they came to Boston at a tiny venue called Axis (since torn down and melded into the House of Blues) for their White Pony tour. While I wasn't a huge fan of White Pony at the time, their show was off the hook. They always play their old songs (e.g., Teething) for their old fans. Since the venue was so small, they completely fed of the crowd's energy and threw and absolutely incredible show. Whenever I get a chance, I always see these guys. Even if you're just kind of a fan, you need to see them live; it'll throw you into being a big fan. Old fan, new fan, barely know them... doesn't matter. Always an amazing show.

by JimboZ on 3/27/10Concrete Amphitheate - Corpus ChristiI have been a fan of Deftones since 1996....I first seen them live in 1997 in Houston at general admission show with Quicksand and it was one of the greatest concert experiences. Since then I have seen the Deftone 3 more times live and now will be seeing them again in Corpus Christ, Tx. GA venues are the best way to see Deftones. Not at festivals where the sound production sucks, but at smaller indoor venues because you get to totally absorb the energy Deftones pumps out. Highly recommended.
