Deck The Hall Ball #25 -- Not worth the wait...

by McDouK on 12/13/17KeyArena - Seattle

Let me start by saying that I've been to Deck The Hall Ball in the past, it's always been a fun show, if only a little bit drawn out due to the number of acts planned, and stage transitions required for those artists. That being said, the quality of the performances always outweighed the time spent at the event, usually culminating in a great couple of final shows. Now, at DTHB25 this was not the case. Only one band actually put on an engaging performance that was acceptable for the insanely expensive tickets (over $100 per person this year). The honor of best performance goes to 'The Lumineers' for certain, as the engaged with the crowd and played a set worthy of a festival setting like this. Personally, I went to see one of my all-time favorite bands - 'The Killers' - unfortunately they put on a really crummy & rushed show that felt disingenuous. They didn't even stick around long enough to play an encore, barely clocking in at just over an hour for their set, despite being the headliners. Key Arena was a mess, as usual. The only stand-out good thing was they have managed to clean up the surrounding area & grounds enough to make the arena look nice, but food, drinks, alcohol are still insanely over priced and not worth your time or hard earned cash. Bathrooms were messy and looked relatively unkempt. They can pay an usher to stand in every aisle (who don't even bother to check tickets, or acknowledge you) but their janitorial staff clearly got the night off. I'd recommend skipping this event in the future unless changes are made.

    Lumineers were the best

by BeckScho on 12/8/17KeyArena - Seattle

I was pleasantly surprised how fun it was to hear so many bands and enjoyed the break in between them to stretch the legs. The Killers was the main reason I bought our tickets and it was great seeing them but gawd the Key Arena Sound is so freakin bad or they crank the sound so loud you couldn't appreciate Flower's voice. The lumineers were very very good. Portugal the Man were excellent as well. Loved our seats but next time I think I will bring earplugs to help with the sound volume. My husband had some and he didn't go home with his ears ringing like mine.

    Horrible Acoustics at the Key

by MrBadAx on 12/8/17KeyArena - Seattle

Musicians were alright. The music was too loud for the venue, it was echoey and unclear the majority of the concert.

    Lumineers were illuminating!

    by Yo44 on 12/8/17KeyArena - Seattle

Music is the way to forget your daily troubles and escape into a new world. A world with lights sounds and emotions. Certain music can make you feel euphoric, melancholy, happy, Dare to Dream. This venue gave me all in between. Annual Holiday Tradition was born!

    Glass Animals were the best!

    by potatosnail14 on 12/10/16KeyArena - Seattle

I had a great time for the most part! The venue was huge, but the big screens made sure even the farther seats had a great view. I was lucky enough to get a really close seat and it was amazing. The seats are a bit cramped but are staggered so you don't have to worry if a human giraffe sits in front of you. Some of the more well known bands played for a lot longer than the others, so I was a little bummed out about that because the Glass Animals were so good, and they were the ones I came to see, but they weren't on long. Also I payed $5 for a water bottle, haha, just warning you. But overall, it was pretty awesome, would have been perfect if Jimmy Eat World hadn't hogged the stage for a small eternity.

Deck the Hall Ball 2015 was unforgettable, and I was expecting the same from DTHB 2016. The venue was nice, all the staff we encountered were awesome and had great personalities, and we even had front row spots in general admission right by the stage. It was all perfect, until the music started. I was in the exact same spot in the arena as I was the year before, but I could swear the sound system had changed. I know I was right next to a speaker, but I was the year before as well and it was NOT that loud. Maybe the bands just happened to be drastically different from eachother and all the bands this year had a bunch of bass involved with their songs, but believe me when you were that close it kind of hurt to have that much base going right in your ear, and you couldn't hear the singing or other music because of that, which, you know, is kind of the whole reason you go to hear bands?

    Great Event and Venue

by Slapsticks on 12/9/16KeyArena - Seattle

I have not been in the Key for awhile. It was a great show. I wish I would of known more bands there, but some of the earlier ones were really good. Must always have Band of Horses there. Great hometown show. I just saw them in October at the Paramount and they just jam.

Could have been amazing, but it was just fun. The lineup was fair. Some of the early bands were better than the later bands.

    Awesome lineup!

    by jsch2000 on 12/15/15KeyArena - Seattle

I agree with everyone who said that it was unbearably loud for Cage The Elephant, and Death Cab's instruments overwhelmed the vocals as well. Maybe they were covering up for vocal deficiencies that day. The rest of the lineup was phenomenal.
