About Decibel Metal & Beer Fest

Decibel is one of the world's most respected authorities on heavy metal. Or, as they put it, they've been "extremely extreme since 2004." Either way, when they curate a metal festival, the forecast is for a 100 percent chance of excellence and annihilation.

It all started with the Decibel Magazine tours in the 2000s — six punishing jaunts across North America that featured bands like Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, and At the Gates. In 2009, the publication started their first monthly craft beer column, because what pairs better with metal than a good brew?

The natural marriage of these two projects became the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest, inaugurated in 2017 and showcasing some of North America's greatest craft breweries, including Unibroue and Three Floyds. The first iteration of the fest, which took place in Philadelphia in April 2017, saw some of metal's heaviest acts, including Sleep, Pig Destroyer, Municipal Waste, and Agoraphobic Nosebleed, in addition to a number of excellent local groups.

In 2018 and ‘19, the madness gets turned up to 11 as the festival continues in Philadelphia and adds a weekend in L.A. In December 2018, the L.A. leg of the fest sees some truly insane acts — presented by Metal Blade Records, because why not? — including Testament, Godflesh, Power Trip, and Pig Destroyer. Taking place at L.A.'s esteemed Wiltern Theatre, the event features brews from local brewery Three Weavers, as well Three Floyds, Unibroue, Burial, Left Hand, and more.

The Philadelphia leg of the festival in April 2019 sees bands like Baroness, Deafheaven, Obituary, and Enslaved and features beer from Three Floyds, Atlas, Burnt Hickory, and others. The second year of the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest is sure to be full of all the fire and grit you'd expect from an event curated by the world's greatest metal magazine. Tickets for both events are on sale now.

  • Better Description of Event

by Bryant Lopez on 12/14/21The Belasco - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

I purchased three tickets, no where on its social media platforms nor through the Ticketmaster app did the even indicate the event was for 21 only. I was disappointed to find out at the doors and requested a refunded but have not heard back, ticketmaster should do a better job and handling situations like this. I’m very disappointed.

Great venue, music and beer tasting. Everyone was professional and friendly. The mosh pit was safe and felt like a true community.

  • Glad Decibel Metal & Beer is back!

What an amazing fest. Great venue, lineup, beers, staff, food, sound, and seating. I will go every year this event is held - always a great time.

  • Great to be back (a little different this time)

by milligoat on 9/30/21The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 4 out of 5

It was a little different this year, but still great to be back. Felt safe with the mask mandate and the required vaccination cards. I understood that changes needed to be made, but with that said, I wasn't a fan of having all of the breweries upstairs. I prefer them scattered so that I don't have to separate from my friends who have "metal only" tickets. This created a lot of bottlenecks going up and down the stairs. That was especially felt because this was the first year the fest was a sell out (nice work, Albert and team)! So all of that said, had a blast, and it was so great to be back to this fest for the first time since Spring of 2019 when we were all innocent from the effects of COVID-19. Looking forward to 2022!

  • Meh ok

by Big Cheese on 4/18/19The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - PhiladelphiaRating: 3 out of 5

Whole beer set up was silly. Unable to purchase beer from breweries unless purchasing the miniature tasting cup and standing in line to get three sips of beer. Bands were great. Obituary killed the weekend.

  • Great lineup and fantastic venue

by Donovan on 4/17/19The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Everything moved along smoothly and the venue was easy to get in to, was really cool and had a great layout. Bands were great and sound was good.

  • Great bands, great breweries, great venue.

by Keiko on 4/10/18The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

The bands were, of course, a huge draw, but the breweries and their beers were great too, the venue was both comfortable and gorgeous, and the fest was well managed. We’ll definitely be back!

  • Brutal and tasty

This is a top notch music and craft beer event. Amazing line-up the last two years and some fantastic breweries. Not to mention the very nice staff, atmosphere and amenities at the Filmore. Great food options as well!

  • Best fest ever!

Definitely one of the most well run events we have been to. Great people, bands, and beer vendors (at the beer fest portion).

  • Decibel Metal & Beer Fest, FANTASTIC!

by FranktheBulldog on 4/25/17The Fillmore Philadelphia - PhiladelphiaRating: 5 out of 5

Great Time in Philly! Decibel put on a Fantastic event. The people from the various breweries could not have been nicer and all the bands put on a great show, expecially ANB, Sleep, Pig Destroyer and Municpal Waste. Than You Decibel, can't wait for next year!

The Decibel Metal & Beer Fest will go down in history as one of the most incredible displays of metal and craft brewing that has ever graced the cosmos. Incredible venue, incredible lineup of bands, and a lineup of beers that would make a grown weedian blush. I was with a crew that traveled a cumulative 36 hours from different corners of the country to be there, and it was MORE than worth it. Hopefully, this tradition will continue long into the future, and we can all see Chicken Man & those dudes from Hoof Hearted every year from now until the apocalypse
