DEATH GRIPS IN CONCERT:

Death Grips bring a punk rock fury to the usually laid back grooves of hip hop, create a chaotic and riveting stage show with their manic energy and wild-eyed stage presence. Rapper Stefan Burnett (AKA MC Ride) embodies the groupā€™s take-no-prisoners mentality, assuming a relentless and shirtless persona that combines the best onstage characteristics of Iggy Pop and Eazy-E. Drummer Zach Hill unleashes unorthodox Gene Krupa-esque beats with an avant-garde bent and relentless drive. On top of his frantic and erratic movements, producer Andy Morin increases the foreboding fracas on stage by layering lo-fi synthesizers and off-kilter sound collages. As they wreak havoc on their 2015 North American tour, Death Grips are sure to thrill ticket buyers seeking an extreme concert experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Death Grips was founded in 2010 by Sacramento, CA natives Stefan Burnett (AKA MC Ride), Zach Hill, and Andy Morin. During their wildly energetic early live shows, the experimental hip hop trio gave out free demos to help promote the band. The tactic paid off, as the group caught the attention of Epic Records in 2012. That same year the group released their first two full-length albums The Money Store and No Love Deep Web. Ini 2014 Death Grips announced the double album The Powers That B, but one month later they cancelled all scheduled dates and broke up. Footage of the group rehearsing new material in early 2015 had fans hoping that the breakup would be short-lived, and the band confirmed these suspicions by announcing several live dates and releasing The Powers That B in 2015. Reunited, the group continues to offer a high-concept, high-energy spin on the world of hip hop.

    Crazy Energy

by Mr. Dibbs on 5/24/23Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

This show was part of a Birthday celebration for our son. He was a huge fan in High School and had never seen Death Grips live. He loved it. It was a great experience overall and though I'm not a huge fan, I was blown away by the energy in the room. Reminded me of my old "pit days". Except, I was in balcony observing with a wry smile.

    Great Mosh Pit/Great Security

by Dale on 5/21/23The Observatory - Santa Ana

The security made sure no one was allowed into the pit (once it was full) unless someone left the pit. Felt very safe in the chaos! The free water is huge as well.

    Great show :)

    by S. L. on 5/21/23

My first time at the palladium but it was awesome. The pit was alright, way more intense than other shows Iā€™ve been to. My boyfriend and friend love death grips but Iā€™ve always considered myself more of a casual fan but seeing them live really made me appreciate their music a lot more :) definitely recommend!

    No water

by Offer free water please on 5/20/23Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

The venue did not allow you to get water at any of the bars. Instead, you had to choose between a dirty & unsanitary water fountain or paying five dollars for a canned water. Not offering free cups of water is a safety issue, as it leads to people getting dehydrated in the super hot crowd and passing out (which Iā€™ve witness on multiple occasions at live nation venues). This is especially true for punk/metal/high energy shows with mosh pits. If the bartenders are too busy to pour water, at least leave out a water cooler with disposable paper cups for people to serve themselves.

    Itā€™s a Family Affair

by ChalupaHendrix on 5/14/23The Van Buren - Phoenix

For me, Death Grips holds a special place in my heart. My oldest son introduced my husband and I as well as his younger brother to their music 10 years ago. Being near the same age as the band members their music really struck multiple cords of resonance with me. Without a doubt, my favorite band. ( Although, because of the often intense nature of their music I keep my listenings to chosen times as not to over hear ) On Gp is my favorite song of all time. I feel an absolute masterpiece. Their energy, lyrics, sounds, fan base, execution, mystery, aura are that of true artists. This was my second time seeing them. First time was with both sons and husband. Second time was with husband, sons, daughter in law, and friends of son. So, you know, a family affair. The short but incredibly potent show packed 29 songs the boys busted out like no other. They have amazing prowess and stamina. I loved being second row center smooshed in like a sardine with 1,500+ sweaty smelly peeps. The sound system could of been better. It wasnā€™t that loud and didnā€™t feel that bass rattling through my body. Aside from that is was an amazing show!!

    death grips goofy glaggle time

by ian on 5/11/23The Union - Salt Lake City

Showed up around 11 hours before the scheduled starting time to ensure a spot in the very front row which ended up working out, although the concert was delayed by an hour. Luckily they still let us in when doors were scheduled to open. Staff and EMT's were there to help out people who were overheating and passing out during the show and were handing out water bottles which was really nice. Came out with minor injuries but that's to be expected at a show like this. Overall great experience.

    Intense performance, art, lyrics, sound!

    by Foulkes52 on 4/22/23

There is no equivalent to Death Grips. Even if they arenā€™t your jam a couple hours with them will alter your perception of what performance can do! Rest up, get focused, open your mind and strap in..Zach Hill and MC Ride used to pull this off alone but the addition of Andy Morin frees Zach to deliver his insane percussion and triggered samples. Nearly every performance is legendary and the level of full out intensity probably isnā€™t sustainable for them for long periods so donā€™t think ā€œIā€™ll catch them next timeā€.. Iā€™am catching this palladium performance, the first in years, because solar eclipses are life changing and you may never see another! Zach wrote on a napkin once..ā€ Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision." They are back hopefully and you should be there..

I went to the Third Circle of Hell

by murphyandbeer on 9/19/16Terminal 5 - New York

And it was incredible. My god. What a night. Truly unforgettable. As unsettling and remarkable as I could have imagined. If you have the opportunity to go to Death Grips and don't go, you should seriously reevaluate your life choices. One of the best nights in my entire life. They played for an hour and 45 minutes straight as MC Ride and his ripped bod jumped all over the stage scaring the crowd away by staring straight into their eyes as he screamed the lyrics, and Zach Hill just beat the drums like nothing I've ever seen. I was disappointed the MC Ride didn't take a Mac and break it on stage, but I suppose one can't have it all.
