DEATH GRIPS IN CONCERT:
Death Grips bring a punk rock fury to the usually laid back grooves of hip hop, create a chaotic and riveting stage show with their manic energy and wild-eyed stage presence. Rapper Stefan Burnett (AKA MC Ride) embodies the group’s take-no-prisoners mentality, assuming a relentless and shirtless persona that combines the best onstage characteristics of Iggy Pop and Eazy-E. Drummer Zach Hill unleashes unorthodox Gene Krupa-esque beats with an avant-garde bent and relentless drive. On top of his frantic and erratic movements, producer Andy Morin increases the foreboding fracas on stage by layering lo-fi synthesizers and off-kilter sound collages. As they wreak havoc on their 2015 North American tour, Death Grips are sure to thrill ticket buyers seeking an extreme concert experience.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Death Grips was founded in 2010 by Sacramento, CA natives Stefan Burnett (AKA MC Ride), Zach Hill, and Andy Morin. During their wildly energetic early live shows, the experimental hip hop trio gave out free demos to help promote the band. The tactic paid off, as the group caught the attention of Epic Records in 2012. That same year the group released their first two full-length albums The Money Store and No Love Deep Web. Ini 2014 Death Grips announced the double album The Powers That B, but one month later they cancelled all scheduled dates and broke up. Footage of the group rehearsing new material in early 2015 had fans hoping that the breakup would be short-lived, and the band confirmed these suspicions by announcing several live dates and releasing The Powers That B in 2015. Reunited, the group continues to offer a high-concept, high-energy spin on the world of hip hop.
Got my lip a little busted, got covered in sweat, both my own and others. Ears got wrecked. 10/10 experience.
10/10 would definitely recommend going. They played nonstop with no breaks in between and brought anazing energy for all 90 minutes of the show.
They come and they come hard. Amazing venue to fly around in
Great show with a great performance and atmosphere. Would see again.
Are death grips shows typically about an hour long? Seemed kinda over fast with so much material...
It was exactly what I expected from Death Grips, and more than I thought I wanted
Super hard show. I left the venue with bruises and scratches. I'm a 4'11 120 lbs at the very front messed me up. But the security guards were so nice to help people out who couldn't handle it
band was great, crowd was great, everything was hot and aggressive
Fun concert! DG was really good. MC Ride's mic could have been a little louder/clearer. The mix was a bit muddy and couldn't hear all the samples, but DG put on a killer rock show. I expected it to be more like an edm show, but they brought the guitars! No video, stage show or light show, only red lighting all night with no spot lights. Boring, understated, disappointing. You never saw the band (Maybe that was the point?) I thought they would have some artsy video, but no. Ride never addressed the crowd, the music never stopped for applause, and a lot of prerecorded music, an unusual show to say the least, but it was still great. Drummer, Zach Hill, goes nuts the whole time doing crazy polyrythms, fills and rolls. but it is MC Ride that steals the show. Great performer, MC and screamer. The crowd was actually more polite and better smelling than I expected. Some crazy females there, too.
Top 5 shows/concerts of all time. Second best I’ve been to this year. And yes I go to a lot of shows.
I took my son and his friends to the concert, and the venue is awesome and it always has been a great place to see a show. The staff are amazing, and entry into the event was not stressful at all.
Best show I’ve been to in awhile, I was in the pit and it was a blast. MC Ride is a powerhouse! Insane. I loved every second of it. Would definitely go see them again if they were playing nearby.
Death Grips put on a great, 90-minute show. The drink prices, however, were outrageous. I paid $17 for a 16-oz hard seltzer! Also, the venue should hire some people to direct traffic. The lot to the west of the FactoryStL was entirely full, but there was parking in front of other stores to the east.
Very one of a kind show. Really the best live performance I've seen in a long time. Much better show than some of my favorite bands I have seen live.
While the band was great, it took over two hours from doors opening to see any live music. Way too many people allowed in to this venue, very crowded for a 96 degree day. And the venue selling water at $8 is disgusting. The venue itself has a lot of potential, but is very much my least favorite in town for many reasons. Sound is often terrible. Ticket price for one hour of music was also way too steep.
The venue, band's performance, staff, and food was amazing. However, the sound of the show was pretty muddy. This could be for a number of reasons the acoustics of the venue, the band's equipment, etc... I would still go back to this venue and see another show.
0 audience interaction. 0 breaks in music. walked on stage with a backpack. 10/10 best show i’ve ever been to
they showed up and played the entire setlist with no breaks. i have never been so physically exhausted in my entire life but it was definitely worth it.
massive amount of shirtless men.. like an INSANE amount.
Concert is honestly such a vibe. Definitely recommend to anyone who’s looking for an experience.
