About

DEAFHEAVEN IN CONCERT:

Deafheaven merge the extreme sounds of black metal and shoegaze to create an aural onslaught guaranteed to blow ticket buyers away. Guitarist Kerry McCoy pours pure blood, sweat, and tears into his hellfire riffs and pummeling breakdowns before exposing an unexpected fragility with soothing instrumental interludes and shimmering ambient passages. These moments of calm lull audiences only briefly, before vocalist George Clarke unleashes his blood-curdling scream to ratchet the intensity back up to 10. Clarke dances around the stage on introspective and self-loathing anthems like “Sunbather”, “Dream House”, and “Unrequited”, while frenzied fans mosh along to the mayhem.  Deafheaven’s soul searching, speaker-destroying brand of blackgaze gives fans seeking a brutal live sound a hard-driving bang for their buck.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After leaving San Francisco grindcore band Rise of Caligula, vocalist George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy began to explore the more exotic fringes of metal in 2010 with Deafheaven. Using borrowed equipment and $500 of studio time, the duo recorded an untitled demo album before forming a full band. By year’s end they were signed to the Deathwish Inc. label, which released the group’s 2011 debut album Roads to Judah. The record received a warm response, though it was nothing compared to the overwhelming acclaim for their 2013 sophomore album Sunbather. Openly dealing with the band members’ insecurities and personal issues, the album was named best of the year by influential outlets like Metacritic and Treble. Unfazed by the hype, Deafheaven have kept the axe to the grindstone, thrilling live audiences with their extreme performances and stellar recorded material, including 2015’s New Bermuda.

    Epic Show

by Sunbather on 4/2/19The Sylvee - Madison

All three bands where excellent. Deafheaven blew me away. They are incredible live, full of energy and very engaging towards the crowd. I recommend any one who is a fan of their music to go to one of their live shows. You will now be disappointed!

    DEAFHEAVEN!!!

by furedim on 8/21/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

This was my second time seeing Deafheaven, and honestly it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to! This band is so amazing live, and the intensity of the crowd was second to none. I HIGHLY recommend seeing this band!

    Deafheaven was good

The show was not entirely metal. Plenty of room for improvement. Deafheaven is a good band.

    Deafheaven Owns The Wiltern

by seandinopeca on 8/21/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Deafheaven may very well be the best band happening right now. They slayed the Wiltern Saturday night. The venue, the stage set up, the show, the lights, the sound, the musicianship, the vibe, all world class. For years critics and fans alike have been trying to fit Deafheaven into some musical box of cross-genre, bridge-gapping, hodge-podge of whatever. Seems like a misguided waste of energy. And who really cares? Fact is, they're just a ridiculously talented and fresh rock band! Sure they are influenced by all kinds of different musical genres that came before them, ALL bands are. They talk candidly about their influences. But make no mistake, they are their own band, with their own signature sound. That is a feat in itself. And isn't that really the objective anyway? Just create and play great music? The Wiltern show Saturday night was flawless. Check Deafheaven out. You will not be disappointed.

    Second time Deafheaven!

by JustinTav on 8/21/18The Wiltern - Los Angeles

The venue itself was great, getting in line was simple, and handing in my ticket and getting to the pit was super simple. Although I love Deafheaven to death, I think George (lead singer) should choose different openers for future concerts. Uniform was lacking, not a lot of people were hyped but we still applauded, and Drab Majesty put me to sleep a little bit, but they weren’t bad at all, just slow. Deafheaven was great as always, however the audio could’ve been MUCH better, songs I’ve heard over and over again we’re getting lost and I couldn’t tell which part of the song they were in for half the songs. Other than those issues I loved seeing them and will definitely see Deafheaven again.

Awesome Bands in a Great Venue

    by KennyRBrown2 on 3/13/17The Underground - Charlotte

Fantastic lineup, the sound quality was great. Venue is nice. I like it better than The Fillmore, it's a little more intimate. All 3 bands were great, but would've liked to see Deafheaven play a little longer, seemed to end early.

    One of the best!!!

by ThePAWjr on 3/13/17The Masquerade - Atlanta

Wasn't expecting much, because usually with heavier bands the music sort of gets muddled together, but Deafheaven was fantastic. They literally sounded better live than their recordings and that is rare in their genre of music. Freakin' Amazing!

    Jaw dropping

by jdsrockin on 11/13/15Masquerade - Atlanta

Deafheaven was amazing! Being so close to the front that George Clarke was screaming in my face was an unforgettable experience. The band seemed so down to earth (especially Kerry McCoy), shaking hands and highfiving everyone. I was so glad the venue was so small that I got to interact with the band.

If you were an astronaut and had Sunbather blasting in the space shuttle cockpit during your launch sequence, it still wouldn't be as exciting as seeing Deafheaven live. George Clarke is a hell of a performer and the rest of the band is flawless too.

    Forgettable

by Thuggin on 11/13/15Masquerade - Atlanta

Worst even I've attended since Lord of the Rings and that 1998 Avengers movie. ICP would have been better. Coldplay would have been better

    by 17thIteration on 11/6/15Royale Boston - Boston

Deafheaven played an amazing show with a lot of energy. The sound was clear. The crowd went nuts. Totally loved it and would recommend them highly! The opening acts, Tribulation and Envy, were also impressive.

    Intimate, Powerful, Passionate Performance

by Deafheaven on 2/23/14Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

They sounded perfect. Lighting set the mood well. Lead vocalist was very interactive. He got so close to the audience and made everyone feel each and every word. Best live act I've seen in a minute.

    Great experience!

by Catrizzo on 2/22/14Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Deafheaven was, of course, fantastic. However, the venue was also absolutely amazing. The Taft Ballroom was clean, spacious, and well organized for this event. It just added that extra element that made this concert great.
