    Cherry Blossoms vs Majority Whips

    by merc26 on 12/10/12DC Armory - Washington

Flat track Rollergirls needs a new look. Too many stops in the action. Track needs to be larger and more action. I will continue to support the sport and I understand it takes time to promote and develop the fan base.

My whole family loved it, even though my seven year old was sure she would never have any fun at such a thing. She ended up getting a tshirt and having her picture taken with with a trio of the Demoncats.

I would definitely do this again!

    by Evelin24 on 4/19/12DC Armory - Washington

This was our first time going to a roller derby event and we really didn't know much about roller derby, such as the rules, scoring, etc. but we had a great time! We arrived and it had already started, we grabbed some beers ($10 a pop, pretty expensive but so are all sporting events) and headed to the roller derby area. Walking up we noticed there were several booths selling various things from t-shirts to cupcakes and even books. It was easy to find a seat even with the crowd (no assign seating). The crowd gets into when a girl gets knocked down hard, so of course we starting partaking in the cheering. During half-time there was a chick in a roller derby outfit with a question mark on her helmet, she was awesome, very nice, didn't look at us like we were dumb for being there and not knowing the rules, she explained the rules and the scoring to us so when half time was over we actually knew why we were cheering (lol).. It was awesome! I recommend getting there early for parking!

    First time Roller Derby

by TotalWimp on 4/16/12DC Armory - Washington

It was hella fun, the players rocked, and the nothing beats young girls getting their pictures taken with their role models. I'm headin' back next time.

Great! DC gets a little character!

    by Caitlin3 on 2/27/12DC Armory - Washington

The game itself was decent, not great. But the Sport and the event itself? It deserves 5 stars. It gives the city some much-needed culture...and/or weirdness. This is why I think it's important (I'm gonna use another city as reference, watch out): as techies, investors, and other white collar companies started moving their offices to Austin in the 90s, the city's residents worried that the city was losing some of its character "weirdness," the very same warm, welcoming funkiness that drew young talent to the city. So it started the "Keep Austin Weird" movement, supporting quirky community initiatives (including quirky festivals and events) in the city. Add a more physical tackles and rollerskates to the scenario, and that sort of misfit culture is exactly what Roller Derby is cultivating. It may not be time to "keep" DC weird, but it is certainly time to try to "include" a little weird into the city.

    It's Roller Derby...

    by Chelley7 on 2/27/12DC Armory - Washington

For the most part the event was good... fair warning since they don't inform you before you walk in.. No lighters, No In or/ Outs, No drinks and pretty much be ready to be fully checked for anything other than money/credit cards!! Parking which "NO ONE" talks/mentions about before you get there is in one of the DC United Parking lots! The DC Rollergirls are great fun...Cherry Blossom Bombshells and Scare Force One are great teams.. None of the teams are too aggressive which was a bummer!! The announcers are informative but are really boring!! They need to step it up some! Music was good until the second bout...beer is over priced but what do you expect its a venue event.. Merch is decently priced and as for the food.. eat before you go... Fair Food is better.. I'm just sayin.. WHY WOULD YOU BRING YOUR KIDS/INFANT?? ITS REALLY ANNOYING WHEN YOU OUT TRYING TO ENJOY YOURSELF AND A CHILD CRIES A LOT!!!-WHO TAKES KIDS OUT TO AN ADULT EVENT... WHERE THEY SERVE BEER..THIS ISN'T A FAMILY DINER! get it together people and find a babysitter!!! Over all enjoyed myself.. BE SURE TO BRING a really funny/entertaining friend.. :D Can't say I didn't warn you!

    Great event, great audience

by Rollergirlfamilyfans on 1/30/12DC Armory - Washington

This was our family's first outing to a roller derby event. It was so much fun! Everyone was enjoying themselves, from the roller derby teams, to the officials, the announcers, the vendors, and, of course, the audience. A totally family friendly event and very reasonably priced! We will be going again!
