About

David Gilmour is a British singer, songwriter and guitarist best known as a member of Pink Floyd. Hailing from Cambridge and Grantchester, Gilmour joined the iconic psychedelic rock band in late 1967, in the wake of the release of their debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and just months before the exit of founding vocalist Syd Barrett. The guitarist then appeared on all but two songs on Pink Floyd’s 1968 sophomore LP, A Saucerful of Secrets, and performed on the band’s landmark world tour that same year. Gilmour contributed lead and rhythm guitar, vocals and more to every Pink Floyd album thereafter, including the band’s 1973 magnum opus The Dark Side of the Moon and their 1979 rock opera The Wall. Following bassist Roger Waters’ exit from the band in 1985, Gilmour took over as Pink Floyd’s de facto leader. He has also periodically released solo albums during his acclaimed career, including David Gilmour (1978), About Face (1984), On an Island (2006) and Rattle That Lock (2015). In 2024, Gilmour is set to unveil Luck and Strange, his first solo set in nearly a decade.

    Great Setlist

by RandyDe on 4/17/16Madison Square Garden - New York

I see a lot of concerts and David Gilmour is the paramount of any show. The setlist from his new album and others (including Pink Floyd) is a fans delight. The way David plays the guitar is so unique and to me he is the best ever. Waited 10 years for a show and hope he comes again in another couple of years as father time takes our dreams away.

    2nd MSG show

by PGMOZO on 4/16/16Madison Square Garden - New York

This show was a bit better then the night before. The crowd was more into it. Dave hit some bad guitar notes during solos and his voice was scratchy. Didn't change the setlist unfortunately. But again, always good to see PF music live.

    Good show

by PGMOZO on 4/16/16Madison Square Garden - New York

I am grateful that Dave toured where I could take my son to see his show. I have seen Pink Floyd live (and all factions there of) since 1977, multiple shows. If any of them were in 200 miles of NYC, I was there. Being in able to take my son to enjoy the music he has now found to love was a great experience. He really loved the Wall tour with Waters. Also, watching the 4 kids in front of us dig the concert brought me back to when I too first saw Dave play guitar on the Animals tour. So I asked him what he thought, and his reaction was the same as mine. Great guitar playing, voice is starting to go and bad setlist. The new album is mediocre at best and live doesn't help it. Nothing from his first solo album? Though I read he doesn't like that one. The light show was underutilized, only shinning on a few songs and only his bass player was the one animated on stage. OK, I pick as I've seen him so many times. I'm sure I noticed things other never would. Dave is a rock god and at 70 I should give him a break. Good show, but I've seen him do better.

    David Gilmore made me cry

by BeeperSalerno on 4/16/16Madison Square Garden - New York

Played most of the new album , which is soo soo good , I must admit , his guitar makes me very sentimental and brings tears of joy to my face , no other music has ever done this to me . in my opinion , he is the best guitarist I have ever heard , hands down , and I heard most of them live ,

David Gilmour was best show i've ever seen!

by MGH53 on 4/16/16Madison Square Garden - New York

Wow! What an incredible and truly amazing show. David Gilmour is a true craftsman. His guitar playing and singing is perfection to my ears. The quality of the sound was so awesome and all the band looked like they loved what they did and were having fun. Steve DiStanislao drumming was as crisp as can be and Joao Mello on sax was such a treat. I savored every moment- wish I could see again. My only regret is that Richard Wright wasn't still on keyboards, may he rest in peace.

    Absolutely Phenomenal

by BeatlesDylanDead8 on 4/16/16Radio City Music Hall - New York

I have been to dozens of concerts in my life, and this unequivocally deserves its place in the Top 3. Gilmour was sensational throughout the entire show. The rich and warm tones of his guitar, his renowned voice still being intact, and the deeply memorable songs of the setlist made this concert indelible in my mind as one of the greatest I've ever seen. See Gilmour if you get the chance!

    Awesome

by ChrisLinke on 4/16/16United Center - Chicago

I had my tickets for almost a year, I really wanted to see David Gilmour again. I attended Pink Floyd twice post Waters. The concert was excellent and if I had a chance I would have followed Gilmour on the rest of his tour.

    My favorite guitarist

by realknkight on 4/16/16Madison Square Garden - New York

Gilmour is not a flashy showman. He doesn't chit chat or banter with the audience or leap up on the amps and throw his fist in the air. What does he do? He pours his soul into every guitar note. He plays his most recent songs and his 50 year old songs with equal passion and precision.

First tour in ten years in North America and what could be my only shot at seeing David live. He sounded great for being 70 years old. Hope he decides to tour again soon.

    Rattle That Lock Was Great!

by ECamel on 4/15/16Madison Square Garden - New York

David Gilmour's Rattle That Lock" tour/concert was one of the best I have seen in years. It included many of the songs from his latest album, a couple from "On An Island " and a great selection from Pink Floyd. David did not disappoint and proved he is still at the top of his game. David's regular touring band which included Guy Pratt, Jon Carin, Phil Manzanera, Steve DiStanislaw, as well as a new keyboard player, saxophonist and backing vocalists rounded out the band and proved they were the best to accompany David. I traveled from Seattle to NYC to catch this show and it was more than well worth it. I hope that there will be an accompanying DVD or vinyl release of this memorable concert.
