David Foster on Tour

Though he's best known as the behind-the-scenes producer and songwriter for megastars like Celine Dion, Michael Buble and Josh Groban, David Foster isn't afraid to step out in front of the mic on occasion. In 2018, he launched The Hitman Tour, a special series of intimate shows that saw him perform selections from his vast repertoire of hits on the piano alongside a revolving cast of guest vocalists (including his wife, Katharine McPhee) and share stories of the songs' creation. The tour proved so successful that Foster extended it through 2019 and into 2020. But Foster isn't one to rest on his past glories: April 2020 sees the release of his first solo album in 24 years, Eleven Words, which applies the stripped-down piano setting of the Hitman Tour to a set of 11 new originals.

David Foster in Concert

Look up any adult-contemporary pop hit from the past 40 years, and there's a good chance David Foster's name is somewhere in the credits. Over the course of his storied career, the Victoria, British Columbia, impresario has mentored some of the biggest names in pop and pushed veteran rock artists to even loftier levels of success, earning some 16 Grammys and Order of Canada honors in the process. After first breaking into the music industry playing keyboards for Canadian soul-rock troupe Skylark, Foster spent the '70s as a session player for the likes of George Harrison and Diana Ross, before scoring his first high-profile writing credit on Earth, Wind & Fire's classic 1979 slow jam "After the Love Has Gone." But through his early-'80s collaborations with Chicago, Foster minted his signature glossy sound, transforming the group from a jazzy classic-rock warhorse into a soft-rock hit machine before applying that Midas touch to Lite-FM divas like Celine Dion and Whitney Houston in the '90s. Amazingly, Foster's hitmaking prowess has only grown more potent since then — in the 21st century, he turned Michael Buble from a wedding singer into a world-class crooner and guided Josh Groban's crossover from classical to pop. But for all his successes behind the boards, Foster has never lost his passion for performing, by periodically tending to his own career as a solo artist in between his production work.

David Foster and Friends was incredible

by Spirit388 on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

David and his friends did an incredible job. The show exceeded our expectations. We really enjoyed meeting with David before the show.

Spectacular performances by Foster's friends but it was his warm and personable personality that in addition to his repertoire of music productions that made this event MUST SEE!

Have seen better David Foster shows

by Locals89052 on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

This show didn't come up to the normal standards of David Forster. Although we enjoyed the show, his prior shows have been better. We had floor seats (first time) and don't recommend them. They are very tight and uncomfortable. You would be better off sitting in the arena seats on the left and right of the stage. His "friends" were just fine, but we expected more for the money we spent.

    David Foster is Incredible!

by Labigus on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

I have had the pleasure of seeing David Foster and Friends 2 times now. The biggest difference I noticed was the first time I saw him in May 2009, he had alot more "friends" that were more current and that helped display his phenomenal work. This time, I felt like he was using filler's just to fill the "Friends" part. Possibly it was because it was the weekend of Thanksgiving, but, IF you are going to charge large prices for tickets, you should be able to get some of your more current performers that HE himself discovered! Overall, it was a good concert. I would love to see him again. He truly has pure talent! Just would like to see "friends" be a Michael Buble or Josh Groban popping in! I was also hoping to see Jackie Evanko. Also, I felt he did too much audience participation. 1 might be nice, but 3-4 is a bit much!

    Foster has some good friends!

by Silver70 on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

David Foster's "Troupe" consisted of Cherice, teenage sensation, Phillip Bailey and Chaka Khan. They were all listed on the show billboards at Mandalay Bay that evening. All the marquee players were good. Cherice needs a little polish, in the opinion of some viewers, this one included. She has a strong, but not quite polished voice, and needs some work on her English diction. Bailey now includes his son, Phillip Jr, as a singer and musician on this tour, as well as with Earth Wind and Fire. The oldies sounded great coming from them. David truly enjoyed having them there. Chaka Khan gives a good show, except for a slight issue with her lyrics - some are hard to understand. Special guests were a notch above what you'd expect. Paul Anka, David Foster's mentor, came out for a few jokes and a little singing. When he segued into his hit Puppy Love, Donny Osmond joined him. Donny then did an absolutely great version of Home, the Buble song also produced by Foster. Two young opera singers really set a very high standard and bode well for the future of classical singing in America. The only strange note was the "Audience members" (three females) who raised their hands when Foster asked for volunteers to sing. They all seemed too polished, too professional, to be "random audience members". I'd still recommend this show; Foster's music is the soundtrack for many Americans, and his friends are very entertaining.

Not David Foster&Friends but David Foster&Family

by Rick61248 on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

A big disappointment from last year's show which had a huge line-up of Friends. Instead of Friends, this year we got Free acts and family pictures plus had to listen to David drone on about his previous wives. Paul Anka mumbled some new lyrics to My Way. Only "surprise": of the evening was an appearance by Donny Osmond.

    David Foster and Friends

by Anonymous on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

Outstanding, my wife and I have seen nearly every show in Las Vegas and this was one of the very best and I would recommend it to everyone. I have watched his shows on PBS several times and they don't even come close to the live show. We attended the November 25th show and would retrun for the December 29th if we did not have another commitment. We will see his show anytime we can

Foster and Friends was a lot of fun!

by chinsd on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

The KPBS show is fantastic, and this one was different because it was very relaxed and flowed easily. David Foster was funny, very personable and casual. The show was so much fun! I would like to have seen more "name" stars in the show, including all the members of Earth Wind & Fire, and more surprises, but it was still highly entertaining. A great evening of great music!

    Overpriced

by kafo on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

It may have been the venue, but I feel I paid way too much for what I received. Tickets were $150 each, on the floor one section back. I couldn't see the stage because the seats were arranged so that a person was directly in front of me, instead of offset. The sound was muffled, poor quality. David Foster was very entertaining, but it felt more like a patched together event, like he was calling for talent at the last minute to fill in the time. I went with my husband because he likes David Foster, but as an outsider, I really was not impressed. Paul Anka seemed confused as to why he was there, Donnie Osmond wanted to leave???

    2nd concert for us

by BrianJD on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

Have attended 2 of David Foster and Friends at Mandalay Bay. Really enjoyable and David is wonderful! The 2nd concert had an issue with the accoustics. 1st was flawless. The Mandalay sound team or David himself needs to sit in the area of Section - 220 , Row - J, Start Seat 20, End Seat 19. It was difficult to hear at times as the singers came off as too loud. It seems that the syncing of the voices to the musicians was off. might just be a flaw within the building itself.

    David Foster & Friends 11/25/11

by AYARB on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

It was great, but not what we expected!!! It would have been nice tho', if there were more guest singers just like the last one we saw in Georgia (Peter Cetera, Ruben Studdard, the Canadian singers, etc...) We invited friends to watch the show because we told them there will be several guests singers that they would be familiar with (based on our previous experience). Altho' Chaka Khan is a great singer, the songs were just too much for our ears that we got bored. Loved Philip Bailey, tho'. Our friends enjoyed his songs.

    David Foster and friends

by RSBB on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

David Foster never dissipoints.... Very touching when Cherice asked to dedicate a song to her father who died two weeks ago. The video of David's 5 girls down memory lane was neat.Chaka Khan and Philip Bailey were amazing . Donny Osmand's voice was great. The Opera singers put goose bumps on us. We loved how he interacted with the audience .and Paul Anka was funny and still can sing....

    David Foster entertaining!!

by Dghia on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

The Mandalay show doesn't have the big stars like Michael Buble, Josh Groban, or other big stars that DAvid Foster had in his PBS show. However, Charice is just FANTASTIC! She's worth the price. I just wished that she could have sing more songs. Paul Anka showed up with Donny Osmond. David Foster, however, is very entertaining. He interacted with the audience and he's pretty funny too. Overall, the show is entertaining.

Fernando Varela is a Rising Star!!

by ACT906 on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

The concert was amazing, but the highlight was the performance by new-comer Fernando Varela. He is one to watch as he will undoubtedly be rocketing towards stardom with his magnificent voice and his amazing stage presence. He connected with the audience immediately and the response was phenomenal. The energy in the auditorium was undeniable!! An amazing show - a must see!!
