David Foster on Tour

Though he's best known as the behind-the-scenes producer and songwriter for megastars like Celine Dion, Michael Buble and Josh Groban, David Foster isn't afraid to step out in front of the mic on occasion. In 2018, he launched The Hitman Tour, a special series of intimate shows that saw him perform selections from his vast repertoire of hits on the piano alongside a revolving cast of guest vocalists (including his wife, Katharine McPhee) and share stories of the songs' creation. The tour proved so successful that Foster extended it through 2019 and into 2020. But Foster isn't one to rest on his past glories: April 2020 sees the release of his first solo album in 24 years, Eleven Words, which applies the stripped-down piano setting of the Hitman Tour to a set of 11 new originals.

David Foster in Concert

Look up any adult-contemporary pop hit from the past 40 years, and there's a good chance David Foster's name is somewhere in the credits. Over the course of his storied career, the Victoria, British Columbia, impresario has mentored some of the biggest names in pop and pushed veteran rock artists to even loftier levels of success, earning some 16 Grammys and Order of Canada honors in the process. After first breaking into the music industry playing keyboards for Canadian soul-rock troupe Skylark, Foster spent the '70s as a session player for the likes of George Harrison and Diana Ross, before scoring his first high-profile writing credit on Earth, Wind & Fire's classic 1979 slow jam "After the Love Has Gone." But through his early-'80s collaborations with Chicago, Foster minted his signature glossy sound, transforming the group from a jazzy classic-rock warhorse into a soft-rock hit machine before applying that Midas touch to Lite-FM divas like Celine Dion and Whitney Houston in the '90s. Amazingly, Foster's hitmaking prowess has only grown more potent since then — in the 21st century, he turned Michael Buble from a wedding singer into a world-class crooner and guided Josh Groban's crossover from classical to pop. But for all his successes behind the boards, Foster has never lost his passion for performing, by periodically tending to his own career as a solo artist in between his production work.

Fernando Varela is a Rising Star!!

The concert was amazing, but the highlight was the performance by new-comer Fernando Varela. He is one to watch as he will undoubtedly be rocketing towards stardom with his magnificent voice and his amazing stage presence. He connected with the audience immediately and the response was phenomenal. The energy in the auditorium was undeniable!! An amazing show - a must see!!

    David Foster and NO friends

by NoEarsformusic on 11/28/11Mandalay Bay - Las Vegas

Unless your favorite one is David Foster, this show will disappoint you as not too many current singers on the stage. I went to his Nov 25th. event. I love David and his songs but was hoping the event to be more like the one in the DVD version. Charice, EarthWindandFire, Chaka Khan were there. Paul Anka and Donny Osmond were a nice surprise. But other than that, everybody else was unknown even though they sang fantastics (Angel Blue and Fernando -- 2 thumbs up). So this show is more like David Foster and his NEW friends. My wife liked the show though. I gave this show a 3 stars since I had a higher expectation. If you love David and his songs, then it is a five stars. But if you hope to see variety of famous singers like in his DVD then it's a 2 stars.

    Performer Added

by VegasGoer24 on 11/20/11Mandalay Bay - Las Vegas

According to the Las Vegas Sun and columnist writer Robin Leach - Mr. Paul Anka has been added as a performer for the November 25. Joining Charice, Philipp Bailey and Chaka Khan. I am hoping for another big name performer but the current line up is good enough.

    Fell short from prior concert

by Nburgos on 10/13/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

I'm a big fan of David Foster and after seeing the concert in 2010 I made sure I would not miss 2011's. But the event did not meet my expectations. This year's concert only had 4 major performers, and only 2 were superstars. This pales in comparison to the dozen A-list performers from prior years. The show was extended unnecessarily with delays, which were filled up with improvised performances from unknown people from the audience. The outfit for Donna Summer and Charice were so simple that somehow took away some of the glow of the event. I think the experience would have been more fulfilling if the concert was limited mostly to the four major performers . The segment when Foster tells the story of the 3 ex-wife s very funny, but it gets a little boring when none f the songs are actually sung by anybody.

    Disappointed

by NevadaBob on 10/9/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

I thought this concert would be a wonderful repeat of his PBS Specials. It was not, Although the advertising made it appear as though the concert would be close to his PBS Specials, It was not.. I bought my tickets early, talked about what a great show Foster put on last time to many family and friends. Based on what I saw last year, I considered bringing my very best clients to this concert.....and at the last minute I decided not to go through with paying for 20 floor tickets due in part to very little noise (advertising) of who the featured performers would be. I was glad I did not pay to bring family and clients as it would not have lived up to my advertising. If Foster wants to showcase new talent, then he should have advertised it that way. Most of us want to see the history of HIS music career in a different way, watching those artists who really made rock and roll so wonderful!! A few new artists mixed in is fine, just felt we didn't get what we paid for!!

I was disappointed with this concert. Not much guests as I thought it would be like from the previous concerts they had. Had I known who were the performers would be, I wouldn't have bought the VIP tickets for two! arrghh!!! And at the backstage for the meet and greet it was only David was there. I thought at least if not all, there would be some performer to stay for the meet & greet. I was so excited to see this concert. And I only stayed in Mandalay The Hotel for just one night and flying from SF. I would say it didn't worth my $$$. I should have gone to the next one, where there will be earth, wind and fire and chaka khan etc... And Charice did not perform well. Granted she just came back from a 28 hrs trip from middle east and no rest at all. Thanks to Donna Summer for being late a littlebit to come out on the stage and there were a bit entertainment from the audience =)....

    Best concert I've ever seen!

by graide on 10/8/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

Across the board--the best! the talent of Mr.Foster over the years, his mission on finding and supporting new talent and showcasing them at his concert was a wonderful surprise. I wasn't expecting the great sense of humor nor the interaction with the audience either!! Congratulations to him and Yoland on their upcoming marriage and that he finally got it right! My husband even thinks flying back out to las Vegas to see another show of David Foster would be worth the expense!

    Disappointing

by ccss21 on 10/8/11Mandalay Bay - Las Vegas

I have been a David Foster fan for years and couldn't wait to see his show. I was disappointed. After seeing his first two shows many times on tv and dvd, I expected this one to be of the same quality. It wasn't. Kenny Loggins, Ruben Studdard, Charice, and Donna Summer were the only "friends." The rest of the show was made up of David telling jokes and audience members singing. The tickets were expensive and would have been well worth the money had the show been like his others. David truly is a genius and I hoped to see that displayed in really great music by great artists- as in Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Earth Wind & Fire, Katharine McPhee, Brian McKnight, etc. I'm sorry to say that didn't happen. This show was not "David Foster" quality at all.

    Wasted Potential

by Scatmann on 10/8/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

Extremely disappointing experience at the Mandalay Bay Resorts Center on 10/1/11. I've seen the David Foster Tour before and it was a fantastic display of stellar songwriting by dynamic performers. This version in Las Vegas had four professionals, Kenny Loggins, Charice, Ruben Studdard and Donna Summer who were fantastic. But there were things that even dragged them down... The first problem was the sound. The band was so far back in the mix and the vocals out front... You could barely hear the drums. It was a sonic mess that was never fixed during the concert. The other problem was that the show was mostly filler with some unknown but decent singers mixed in with people who just weren't ready to be there... After a while, It had the feeling of a very large and expensive karaoke gathering as there had to be around 12 people who were brought out of the audience to take a crack at a song. This killed the quality & pace of the show and gave it a "slapped together" feeling. Then there was an embarrassing bit where Foster played and sang shortened versions of a number of his hits from the past (Foster should NEVER, EVER try to sing... Just horrible) that he's composed and explained how each of his 3 ex wives are living comfortably on half the royalties from these songs. Then he mentions that his new fiance is sitting in the front row and has her stand up. This poor woman must have heard Foster's "routine" and thought, "Am I going to be part of this in a few years?" Foster should really keep his onstage chatter to introducing singers and telling stories about the guest artists on the bill. Foster has a contract to perform 11 more shows, one a month for the next year in Las Vegas. It was a very underwhelming experience for the $135.00 ticket price, especially compared to the $7.00 I paid to see Santa Fe & The Fat City Horns at the Palms on Monday night. The level of musical prowess and spectacular performances put the Foster show to shame. Bandleader Jerry Lopez and his group could blow the Foster show away without even breaking a sweat. Perhaps Foster should catch one of Jerry's shows and learn a thing or two. I'm a music enthusiest who own over 3000 CD's and and goes to almost 100 concerts a year. I never take the time to point out the negative aspects of a show if the majority of a concert works, but I've seen the David Foster show live and both of his HIT MAN dvd's -- This concert wasn't even close. I hope Foster works it out and brings back the high quality live presentation that he's known for.

    Good show.

by Meladydi on 10/6/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

Good show, but did not have the "friends" we would have hoped for. Would be nice if we could know ahead of time who the "friends" will be, in the event one would like to go again. Little long and seating is very cramped.

David Foster and Friends Oct 1st, 2011

by ammusicco on 10/6/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

I was disappointed with the concert. I bought tickets thinking we'd be seeing something like we saw and heard on the DVD, Hitman 2. It came quite short of that performance. My main complaint was that the sound was awful near the back of the event center. Sounded like a lot of big, low end noise. My second complaint was the lack of musicians on stage... no strings, no brass, no extra guitar. Third complaint is that the amount of guest artists was smaller and not as interesting as the artists on the DVD. I would never have paid the money to go to this if I'd have known about the lineup. Unfortunately, I bought tickets before it was announced.

David Foster and His 3 Friends

by Simon33 on 10/6/11Mandalay Bay Resort - Las Vegas

I know America’s Got Talent but I did not expect to see this show on Saturday night. Kenny Loggins, Ruben Studdard, and Donna Summer were Mr. Foster’s only notable Friends at the October event. The others were B-list performers and AUDIENCE MEMBERS who were forgettable. The show is about David Foster, his music, his life, his 3 wives...the focus was definitely not on the performers who made the music famous and timeless. It appears that Mr. Foster feels that his material is enough to carry a show…but people spend their hard earned money to see and hear the performers who actually made the song, who sang the original versions of the song...Really don’t wanna pay to hear someone else singing a Celine Dion song but Celine Dion…
