About

DAVE STEWART IN CONCERT:

From his days as one-half of legendary synthpop outfit Eurythmics to his acclaimed country-tinged solo outings, Dave Stewart has proven himself to be a dynamic and continually evolving artist. In 2013 he released Lucky Numbers, a heady mix of rock, blues, and country that featured guest appearances from the likes of Martina McBride and Karen Elson. As usual, Stewart matched the workmanship of the album with a string of electrifying performances that have set big expectations among ticket buyers for his upcoming tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

British-born Dave Stewart got his start with folk-rock band Longdancer, landing a record deal while still in his teens with Elton John's Rocket Record Company. In 1976 he met Annie Lennox, recording with her for a short time as the Tourists before the duo eventually became the Eurythmics in 1980. Following a moderately successful 1981 debut LP, the pair launched to mainstream success in 1983 with their platinum-selling sophomore album Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), which spawned several hit singles including its chart-topping title track. The duo would continue to release hits throughout the decade before parting ways in 1990. Since then, Stewart has had an impressive career as both a producer and a solo artist, releasing nine albums including 2013's Lucky Numbers, an acclaimed collection of country rock tunes that will feature prominently on his upcoming tour dates.

    Beatles at the Bowl

by TonyE on 8/28/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a great concert. A side from Billy Ray Cyrus butchering some iconic songs it was great.

Was frankly disappointed in the Beatles 50th tribute at the Bowl. Dave Stewart may be a very good musician, but he was not a very energetic or exciting "ringmaster". Additionally, his young adult children seemed to be good musicians also but I was not expecting to have paid to hear the "family Von Stewart singers", especially as lead vocalist on many of the tribute songs. All in all an evening of Beatles music is always enjoyable but IMHO this event was not up to the usual Hollywood Bowl program standards.

Far cry from the real deal

by Anonymous on 8/28/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This is the first time I've left the Hollywood Bowl unhappy with an event. But we all know and love The Beatles' music, and most of the performers couldn't hold a candle to the real deal. While this is to be expected to some degree, most of the performances fell flat and it felt more like karaoke than a concert. Sigh.

Seems like not organized well Can't say it was a tribute to the Beatles. My expectation was too high?

Wasn't what I was looking for

by NotRockin on 8/28/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a Beatles tribute show with various artists performing their own rendition of original Beatles songs. The renditions were horrible. I would have enjoyed a Beatles "look alike and sound alike" band far better. I like Billy Ray Cyrus, but not singing "Hey Jude" . This show was a major disappointment.

This is the show that should never have been!

    by MrMister1 on 8/28/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Oh no, why oh why did you do this to the fans? Someone should have caught this and put a stop to it much earlier.

    Beatles 50th Anniversary

by beatlesmusic on 8/28/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was insulting to the Beatles. Why couldn't Dave Stewart get any known performers except two country western stars. What do they have to do with the Beatles. And having his three kids perform--give me a break. The 14 year old daughter has potential. Vanessa Amorosi from Australia was excellent, but again--who is she. All were virtually unknowns. Sad way to commenorate a very special event.

    Dave Stewart bombs miserably

by UnhappyatBowl on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Dave Stewart's band was a bad amature hour band that needed more time in the garage before going public. My wife and I go to free summer concerts, free city park concerts and free college student concerts... we expected better at a venue like the Hollywood Bowl... especially at $53 per ticket... but it was not. Dave Stewert's children and friends could not hold a note and that is very embarrassing at $53 per seat... a very disappointing show! An older married couple that was seated next to us was also very unhappy and left about 15 minutes after the intermission. A large group of friends seated behind us was laughing cynically when Dave Stewart's son, daughter & friends could not hold a note... this was annoying and bad. I was waiting for the audience to start booing but that did not happen on our night (Friday night the 22nd). We were very unhappy.

Very fair replaying of Beatle hits

by lbast on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Not very good. First part with Bob Eubanks was interesting but not good song selection and performers only did a fair job.

The Beatles 50th at the Bowl

by Gerturd on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I want to first start off by saying that the Hollywood Bowl is a WONDERFUL place to see a concert and every time I've gone it's been spectacular. The one star rating is only for the event “The Beatles 50th at the Bowl" which was a major disappointment. The ringleader Dave Stewart took it upon himself to showcase his offspring (2 sons and a daughter) that were mediocre at best singers and not professional as well as including some special guest that were good but not good enough to make up for the kids lack of talent. Come on guys this is suppose to be a major anniversary for THE BEATLES. The audience would have been much happier with a cover band that looked and sounded like The Beatles as well as top notch professional singers (special guest). It also would have been great to get one if not both remaining Beatles to lead the show. Now that would be an AMAZING event at the bowl. I want my money back.

    Beatlemaniac Remembers

I saw the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl in 1965. The concert brought back wonderful memories. I even made some new friends!

    Not the greatest

by atanwtfgiml on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The show was a little flat. A bit boring. Dave Stewart was too mellow. Guest artists were talented but overall it was just ok.

    More 'star power'

by Aficionada on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Although we all had a great time because of the Beatles' music alone (as well as the atmosphere), I feel that the show could have used more 'star power.' I enjoyed the performers who were not well known (as well as Martina McBride), however Billy Ray Cyrus did not sound good at all. I think that there should have been at least one more well known performer. Nevertheless, it's hard not to enjoy Beatles' music under any circumstances.

    Why?!...

    by Bo0o0o on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Why was a show that could have been amazing so amazingly awful!? I expected wonderful music and a wonderful lineup, not country singers and Dave Stewart's family! This event was supposed to honor the best band ever? Seriously? All Stewart did was promote his children and fill in the gaps with some lame acts. The music itself was pretty good, but the vocals, the vocals were awful! Who thinks of Billy Ray Cyrus when they think of The Beatles? We would've walked out after the first three songs, but remembered we were stuck in stacked parking lot for $17. Completely disappointed.

Beatle Fiasco at the Hollywood Bowl August 23, 201

by EiffelTower on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was the worst concert I've ever been to. It was like the tryouts for American Idol only worse. Vanessa and Martina and the guy with the hat and long hair were the only decent singers. Dave Stewart should be ashamed of himself. I did like the visuals. I'm glad I only paid $17 for my ticket. I did like the new benches and astroturf in section W2.

    FAB FOUR 4-EVER!!!

    by Fab4Forever on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I was at The Hollywood Bowl August 23, 1964 so I just had to be there 50 years later! LUV'd everything except Billy Ray Cyrus. Hey Jude? Really. Talk about sacrilegious!

    Not that good

by CLSings on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The best part of the evening was when Paul Eubanks came out and spoke. Some of the footage was good and could have used more. I liked it, a couple of the vocalists just weren't that good (Django). It was like going to a sing-a-long. Needed a campfire - or a cheesy cruise ship. The Beatles music is never bad, but this just wasn't that good.

    poor show

    by FastEddie7033 on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

1st off, they sounded nothing like the Beatles, and the singers were great, but we didn't go to them, we went there to hear Beatles songs. Not sung by woman, or Billy Ray. I rated your show for the dollar value a 2. A lot of other patrons felt the same as I did!!!

    Pretty insulting show.

by ladregs on 8/27/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Seriously? Dave Stewert couldn't find anyone other then his kids and Billy Ray Cyrus to honor what is for many a historic occasion? Martina McBride and Mary Lambert were fine but only a couple of songs? This was three nights of sold out shows to honor the Beatles first appearance here 50 years ago. A 50th anniversary only happens once. Where did the money go? We cannot go back and fix this. Billy Ray Cyrus doing Hey Jude? The bowl was nice, the seats were good, the weather great. And if this had been advertised as the Dave Stewert Family sings the hits of the Beatles and done any other year and the show was free then maybe we would not care that much.
