About

Dave Matthews Band in Concert

With a career spanning more than 27 years, Dave Matthews Band is one of the most influential bands in rock history. In 1991, vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape and sought the assistance of drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville, VA music scene. 16-year-old bassist Stefan Lessard came on board shortly thereafter. Their infectious, distinctive sound garnered lots of early attention and a die-hard loyal fan base, catapulting the band into one of the most successful touring acts of the past three decades.

The group has since released nine studio albums and numerous live recordings, selling a collective 38 million CDs and DVDs combined since the 1994 release of its major label debut, Under the Table and Dreaming. The GRAMMY®-winning band's many hits include "What Would You Say," "Crash Into Me," "Too Much," "Everyday," "American Baby," "Funny The Way It Is," "Mercy" and "Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)."

Founding member LeRoi Moore passed away in August of 2008 and the band paid tribute to him with 2009's Platinum-certified Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Dave Matthews Band has since welcomed longtime collaborators/touring musicians Jeff Coffin (saxophone), Rashawn Ross (horns) and Tim Reynolds (guitar) into the lineup and - most recently - keyboardist Buddy Strong.

With 2018's Come Tomorrow, Dave Matthews Band became the first group in history to have seven consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In a Critic's Pick review, The New York Times observed, "willed optimism fills the songs on 'Come Tomorrow,' while cynicism and irony are nowhere within earshot... each song notes the fears and sorrows it's determined to overcome. The music does that, with consolation in its melodies and a life force in its rhythms."

Renowned for their live performances, Dave Matthews Band has sold over 24 million tickets since its inception and ranked as the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade. The group's Bama Works Fund, established in 1999, has raised more than $52 million dollars for humanitarian and environmental initiatives.

Dave Matthews in the rain was amazing!

by Joe2009 on 7/15/09Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati

This may have been one of the best concerts I have ever been to. The weather was fairly calm at the beginning of the concert, but within a half hour, the skies opened up, and let all of us the general admission section have it. I wouldn't have asked for it any other way! The harder it rained, the louder we got, and the louder we got, the harder Dave played. It was an amazing experience I will never forget. I left with a cell phone that no longer worked, and soaked to the bone, but it was worth every minute! Dave, thank you for such an awesome concert!!!

DMB always puts on a great show and the Riverbend one did not disappoint. Some great new songs, some great old favorites. If you have not been to see DMB live - what's wrong with you? ALWAYS a good time.

There is nothing finer in music than DMB live. The energy is amazing, the music even better. I had lawn seats and got poured on, but that only made it better!

A great even - as always

by zipster on 7/15/09Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati

Dave Matthews gave yet another great performance. I've been to 7 of his concerts and he never fails to deliver. It was great this year since it wasn't as hot as in the past August performances. It's an annual event - will go again next year.

    DMB outside in the rain!

by kswong on 7/15/09Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati

Dave Matthews always puts on great concerts and this was no exception. The atmosphere is guaranteed to be fantastic and they often play a wide variety of songs from "popular' (Ants Marching) to "rare" (Halloween).

by TheseChances13 on 7/15/09Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati

Granted, the pouring down rain made the experience surreal. But the Dave Matthews Band still blew my mind even though it was my 9th time seeing them in concert. Each concert is a new experience and each experience is memorable. Excellent.

    See them in the rain

by aliciaheartsmusic on 7/15/09Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati

“You’ve never been to a concert unless you’ve seen one in the rain.” At least, that was what the 14-year concert-going veteran standing next to me at the Riverbend Music Center said as the Dave Matthews Band took the stage. At first, I wasn’t so sure I agreed - it was POURING and my jacket was soaked through. But as Dave and his band sang and played their way through what I’m pretty sure was the entire “Big Whiskey” album, I realized she was right. The warm rain seemed to match the blues/acoustic rock performance perfectly and it definitely didn’t cut down on the fun factor. Even when our feet started to stick in the mud, people were still jamming away. It must have been fate that yesterday I was thinking about seeing musical talent in person, because this band has it in spades. Long sections of the performance were wordless jam sessions that displayed the skill of the musicians and had the crowd moving to the beat. One of the encore songs contained a nearly 5-minute long drum solo that was INCREDIBLE to see and, more than that, fun to watch. As the big screens focused on drummer Carter Beauford, you could see his huge grin and knew he was having a great time playing. I think that’s a key to any great performance - if the band looks like they’re having fun, the audience will too. And this audience was having a blast. People of all types turned out for this show - cowboys, hippies, frat boys, punks, even businessmen - and not one person I saw looked upset about the pelting rain. I think that’s because though the band’s members may not have lived all their lives in the United States, the music of the Dave Matthews Band is clasically American. It blends the blues-rock of the bayou with the fiddling sounds of country music and lyrics that just about everyone can relate to. I left that show soaked to the bone but on a high from the great experience. If you get a chance to go to a Dave Matthews Band show, I highly recommend it. And if you can, see it in the rain.

    phenominal concert

by krisk on 7/15/09Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

i wish the crowd was more "in to" the show - there were a lot of people sitting in their seats - it is always more fun when the whole crowd is standing
