    Better than ever at 88!

by buffalobrubeckfan on 10/11/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Dave Brubeck and his Quartet (plus the addition of Dave's son, Matthew, for the last few numbers) put on an amazing show last night in Buffalo. Dave's playing is as good as ever, and all of the musicians were terrific, especially Buffalo's own Bobby Militello on sax and flute. Just a wonderful evening of great jazz in the beautiful setting of Shea's Buffalo. Dave is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of the Time Out album, and ended the show with Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five - a perfect ending to a great evening of jazz!

    Brubeck is inspiring

by RichardK on 10/11/09Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

It was amazing to hear him play. Each tune, each phrase left me to feel that I had never heard these songs before. I smiled through the entire concert. Adding Bobby Militello, Michael Moore and Randy Jones completed the package. I could see their friendship and how in tune they were with each other. They seemed to be surprised occasionally when they heard someone play a phrase and played off each other's energy and talent. I will keep this concert close to my heart.

    Absolutly the BEST!!

    by marnankev2 on 9/20/09Jazz Alley - Seattle

It doesn't get better than meeting the man. Mr. Brubeck is a sweet gentle soul. Really amazing show and being so close (first table in front of the stage) to see and hear the band interact with each other was great. Here's to all of us being that on top of our game at his age!!!

    What a Treat

by Nightmoi on 9/11/09Jazz Alley - Seattle

From start to finish this was a wonderful event. Mr. Brubeck and his quartet were having fun. Jazz Alley is a great place to see the legends. The sound is good. The food is good. You are always close enough to see the expressions on their faces and feel the interaction between the musicians.

One song in particular I didn't want to end: The Sermon on the Mount. What an amazing night of music. The audience didn't want the night to end. I'm so glad I didn't miss it.

Dave Brubeck is a jazz legend.

by Bgifmo on 7/16/09Eastman Theatre - Rochester

Dave Brubeck is a jazz legend. He's a little slow to the stage at 88 but his mind is sharp. He still plays with a lot of sophistication. His fellow musicians are journeymen and stars in their own right. Bill Millitello's twist on Take Five was unforgettable. Something really unexpected happened that night. One of Dave's six son's came to Rochester from Toronto where he teaches at York University and played in the second half of the set. I think seeing father and son look at each other and admire one another's musical chops was a great experience. Long live the Rochester International Jazz Festival!

As long as he keeps playing

by NutherBlueEyes on 7/15/09Eastman Theatre - Rochester

Have been watching Dave Brubeck since the mid-60s and the original quartet, and continue to thoroughly enjoy every concert we attend. Desmond, Wright, & Morello are all gone now, but the music is part of 20th century jazz history. Spend the money to watch him play, listen to his stories, and revel in the very best.

Dave Brubeck is a brilliant pianist, do doubt about it. Any opportunity to see this man is well worth any effort involved.

The Man is still the Master!

by Battey on 7/15/09Eastman Theatre - Rochester

Sure he's old, sure he needs a bit of help getting on and off the stage, but this genius still has what it takes to captivate the audience. Dave Brubeck has, and will continue to have the skills he developed over 50 years ago when he toured the colleges and displayed his piano wizardry with another super star, Paul Desmond. Dave and his "new", old quartet, pleased every last soul in the theater. True, he and Paul Desmond created magic thats difficult to duplicate but his alto tenor replacement, Bobby Millitello has learned much since we saw the group a few years ago. He has learned how to melt with Dave as Paul did, and the results were fantastic. Brubeck not only hit up some of his old stuff but also gave use some old songs not normally tried by the quartet. All with the same result , a deep appreciation of the undying skills of a musical master.

Dave Brubeck is amazing. Not only can he still play the piano, but his humor is on target! We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of his concert and Bobby Mitello can play that sax!!! So glad that we were lucky enough to see and hear the Dave Brubeck trio once more!

Brubeck - Still the cutting edge of modern jazz

by ArtB on 7/15/09Eastman Theatre - Rochester

The Brubeck concert was an inspiration for old and young alike. All the performers were excellent, especially the sax player and the drums. Brubeck showed the audience what real innovation is like, especially when he brought his son on stage to add a cello to the mix. This is what a jazz concert should be. Not just the oldies and goodies but new ideas coming into the group from new sources.
