Dark Star Orchestra on Tour
More than just a tribute band, the seven members of the Dark Star Orchestra are dedicated to the Grateful Dead live experience, best known for playing full setlists picked from their 2,000+ concerts. The Grateful Dead's live show is legendary, a catalog of improvisation traded and celebrated across decades. The Dark Star Orchestra re-creates the Dead's intra-band interplay and pastoral guitar soloing. Remarkably devoted and true to the source material, DSO tailors their arrangements, gear and tempos to the era of the evening. Some nights find the DSO creating original setlists, playing sets from the Jerry Garcia Band or even jamming with members of the Dead themselves.
Dark Star Orchestra in Concert
Formed in Chicago in 1997, Dark Star Orchestra provides generations of fans with the chance to experience entire Grateful Dead sets, song by song. Named after "Dark Star," a part of the Dead's set known for exploratory jams, DSO rose to national prominence in 1998 when Mike Gordon and John Fishman of Phish joined them for a performance of the Dead's 1983 Halloween show. DSO promptly became a touring sensation: At 2,800 shows and counting, DSO have played more shows than the Grateful Dead themselves. They ultimately enlisted keyboardist Rob Barraco of Phil Lesh and Friends, the Other Ones and the 2003 touring version of the Dead. The DSO have played Bonnaroo and Milwaukee's SummerFest, and they've been hosting their own annual fests for years - the Dark Star Jubilee in Ohio and the Jam in the Sand in Jamaica. Perhaps the most important honor for DSO, though, is enlisting actual members of the Grateful Dead, having performed on stage accompanied by Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Donna Jean Godchaux, Vince Welnick and Tom Constanten. A 2018 show even found guitarist Jeff Mattson playing Jerry Garcia's custom-made guitar, "Wolf," which the Dead founder used for two decades.

Awesome show! First time experience seeing DSO. Very good sound. Well worth the money.
I am never disappointed in the DSO shows. They always find a way to keep it fresh. Lisa’s encore of Oh, Darling was a show stopper. Been to at least 20 of their shows now!
Beer and cocktails were way way way way way too expensive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Played an original show (of covers) They picked a fantastic setlist including a great cover or two of traffic.
The band did an outstanding job once again. They did not recreate a show from the past but instead srote a incredible set list for us..THANK YOU FOR A REAL GOOD TIME!!!!!!
As a long time Head I stopped going to shows after Jerry G passed recently I have been turned on to BMFS and JRAD which got me back into the scene. Venue was a classic older style theatre ,well kept, sound was awesome , had a great time
That's one thing about these guys they're very organic compared to cough cough the other band dead experience that plays big theaters like these guys Joe and the boys that other band they're really good too I like them both in different ways with dark star again very organic the Patchouli Aura is in the air with the Dark Star and I love Lisa🤗 I saw Jeff the guitar player on the way into the show thanks for carrying the flame and also Rob the drummer on the way out and I was calling him Dino the other drummer I felt bad because I was telling Rob how I liked his podcast that I didn't even have his name right now that was embarrassing anyway love you Dark Star Orchestra you guys keep carrying that flame Lisa you keep burning that Sage to get rid of those evil spirits in those theaters I remember talking to you about that one time too anyway what an amazing singer you are Lisa absolutely amazing heartfelt you touch my spirit when you sing even if you're just doing that little part in the music never stopped you always hit it anyway enough of me Edy Lazer says peace out
So sad I wasn’t able to attend. We had a snowstorm in the Catskills where I live and the roads were bad. Didn’t want to chance it. Hope it was a good show for those who made it. I’m never disappointed at a Dark Star show. Love them.
