DANZIG is old but rocked harder than ever

by vviddershins on 6/18/10The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

Saw Danzig this wed night and it was the best danzig show ive ever seen. I've seen him 5 times including this one and the band was amazing. tighter than ever, tommy victor amazed me. the songs still have so much life and danzigs voice held out and sounded strong the whole night. truly an amazing show. GO SEE THEM. You won't be surprised. Took my son to him first danzig show and told him that he would be hard pressed to beat that one. The New Filmore in Charlotte s a top notch venue, with GOOD sound and a great atmosphere. drink prices were ust plain silly, but other than that great.

Danzig still has it and then some

by DanzigFan on 6/18/10The Fillmore - Charlotte

I can't believe Glen is almost pushing 60; that show was in the top five of shows I've ever been to. For all the negative things you hear about him, you cannot deny that the guy gives his all for his fans. The band was as tight as I could've hoped for, Tommy Victor really brings a lot to the band and was doing a great job of inciting the mosh pit. The setlist kicked major ass (he's basically at the point that he's got so many great songs throughout his career that there's no way he can play them all). I loved it and feel so fortunate that Charlotte was one of the stops on this tour. Hopefully I get to see them again before Glen decides to call it quits.

cantspeak...enough about how awesome the show was

by skincarver on 6/17/10The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

i was apprehensive about seeing this show due to negative reviews i had read about the fillmore charlotte and that it was standing room only, but i was able to get a spot on the 1st level up from the main floor right behind the mixing board so in my opinion it was the best spot in the house. i had no trouble seeing the entire show and all of the action. the path through to the bathrooms was marked off with tape and was kept pretty clear by the staff. there were enough bars (4 i think) so you didn't have to fight a crowd to get a beverage. yes the drink prices were high: 4 dollars for water and 9 dollar beer ( i don't know about the mixed drinks) but it is what it is... i've never been to any show where they didn't gouge you for pretty much anything they could. no camera's, not even cell phone cam's are allowed, although i did see plenty of people taking video's or pic's. i saw at least one person ejected and my brother was given a warning. as far as the bands: seventh void was a black sabbath/ soundgarden kind of band very loud and heavy, never really got into them but they gave their all and even hung out in the crowd through the rest of the show. the guitar player talked to me and my brother for a long time. gorgeous frankenstien was ok. loud and angry. doyle is a big dude and looked pretty cool in his makeup and devillock. made me think this might have been what the misfits were like when glenn was in the band 'cept they were more maybe heavy metal than punk but they were cool. the lead singer had the werewolf thing going on with the mutton chops and "wolfman" tattooed across his abdomen. finally, i didn't know what to think when danzig came on stage. i had heard the criticism about his voice and wondered how he would sound and perform now that he's in his 50's. i can only say that there's no doubt about it the man's still got it!!! he sang nearly every note with the power and fury that i've come to expect being a fan of his and listening to his albums for 20+ years. alot of bands i have seen live (motley crue, slayer) can't hit the high notes anymore and simply point the mic at the crowd during these moments and let the crowd finish the lyric or use an echo effect to let their voice drift to mask the fact they can't do it. not so with the 'zig!!! he only occasionally pointed it at the crowd during a chorus or very memorable hook but quickly returned to wailing away!!! and he's still in pretty good shape jumping and running about the stage and leaning into the crowd to slap hands with the fans. there were probably about 5 or 6 hundred people there which made for a very intimate setting. he spoke to us and joked around enough to make us feel like we were his people but at the same time kept the chatter to a minimum. believe me when i say he was all business from the time he took the stage to the last song of the encore. don't know if he stayed around to sign autograph's, i had to drive an hour and a half to get home but would have stayed if i could. danzig played about an hour and a half and played songs from all albums except i luciferi. probably the best show i have ever seen mostly due to intamate setting/ small crowd. also, the a/c was kicking. temp was very comfortable throughout the show. danzig made a comment about coming to nc during a "heat wave." guess he doesn't know it's like this down here all dirty black summer long in the south. he also gave a strong shoutout to the troops overseas which i thought was really cool.

Definitely go if you like Danzig.

by mmiikkee on 6/17/10The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

If you are bothering to read this review, then you already know plenty about Danzig. If you're wondering if he's still worth seeing at this stage of his career, the answer is yes. Go to the show, you will have a great time. He played a good mix of the classics and some newer material at the Charlotte, NC show on 6/16/2010.

    Danzig still has it!!

by Kissfan5 on 6/17/10The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

This was one of only nine pre shows for the new album "Deth Red Sabaoth" and Danzig owned the stage. He even smiled several times during the show. I had really hoped Doyle would have joined him onstage for a couple Misfits songs though. Doyles new group Gorgeous Frankenstein played what seemed to me to be a shorter set than the first band. Overall it was a memorable night.

23 YEARS AND STILL KICKIN' IT! DANZIG'S MUZIC IS TIMELESS AND IS STILL BETTER THAN 90% OF WHAT HAS COME OUT IN THE PAST 15 YEARS. GIVE IT TO RICK RUBIN WHO SCOUTED THEM BACK IN THE DAY AND HELP PUT EVIL DIRT METAL ON THE MAP!

    Danzig NORVA Show

by DirtyBlackSummah on 6/16/10The Norva - Norfolk

I would actually give it 2.5 stars. Show was ok. I've saw Danzig numerous times in the early days. The opening act Gorgeous Frankenstein was horrible. Doyle needs to let the Misfits thing die!! As for Danzig, Glenn can still belt out the vocals and remains a very powerful stage presence but there were a few moments where it was evident that he was getting tired. As for the band, I'm a huge fan of the original line up and this band is not them. The guitar players tone was absolutely horrible, the bass holder (I refuse to call him a bass player) just sucked, and the drummer was actually good he just isn't Chuck Biscuits. The setlist was a good mix of what I would call hits (Twist of Cain,Mother,How The Gods Kill) for example and a few newer songs. The merchandise for both bands was very bad. It was like seeing Danzig play at a Spencer's Gifts. Seems like he's a bit out of touch in the merch dept. now days. Which is strange when you consider how awesome all of his older merch is???Anyway, if you're a fan of Danzig and would like to see him maybe one more time like I did then go. Just don't expect the Danzig of the late 80s/early 90s. If that's what you want just go to youtube. Oh Jesus!! and Do Not take pictures with your phone. I've never seen more people kicked out of a show for something so stupid.

by Bohab on 1/12/10Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

AWESOME SHOW, His voice was mint and the set list rocked, Also got a Misfits encore with guitarist Doyle and that was amazing. Go catch this living legend if he plays near you because Danzig doesn't play live shows that often

    The nightmare continues

by Warchild on 12/31/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

I have to say that they just don't make bands like this anymore. The set by gorgeous frankenstein With Michale grave was awesome, it really amped up the crowd before danzig came on. Danzig was just unbelievable his energy puts these new bands to shame. you can tell he loves the crowd and performing. I will definitely see him when he comes around again.

    The Night He Came Home

by klownzilla on 12/28/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

Glenn Danzig tore up the stage once again, but this time on his home turf in New Jersey. He brought Christmas cheer to the droves of fans who turned up to the Starland Ballroom, making it one of the largest crowds in years. Following the 20 Year anniversary, the setlist took on a chronological order after the opening song Skin Carver. Fans rocked out to Twist of Cain and Am I Demon right at the beginning and as the night progressed, other cherished tunes surfaced to provide the crowd with highlights from albums throughout Danzig's career. The conclusion arrived, but the rampant enthusiasm of the crowd demanded more and more is exactly what they got. Stomping onto the stage, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein joined his old friend to deliver the two-song encore. Igniting the audience into further frenzy, the band delivered earth-sharking renditions of Skulls and Die, Die My Darling which capped off what was most definitely an incredible post-Christmas special.

The concert was great except Danzig and Doyle only did two Misfits songs. We thought they would do a whole set. Then they rushed us out and it was only around midnight.

    Hard-core fan's high's and lows.

by kanyption on 12/28/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

The venue was packed-definitely in other people's personal space. Best band lineup he's had in quite awhile. The guitarist ripped off some good solo's and the bassist was totally into it. The setlist tended toward the heavy side:head-bangable. The band gave the crowd what they wanted by playing more of the classic old stuff and not so much post Danzig 4. Danzig's performance style is very physical and Glenn still put 100% into it which helps to hype up the crowd. He was dripping sweat, and doing that unique full body headbang thrust thing he does. He did run out of gas though toward the end and it showed, the crowd sensed that and lost their energy too. His voice-although still good, is not what it used to be. You can tell by the song choice that he stays away from the most vocally demanding songs. I am wishing Danzig would do an all acoustic set once though. He could focus more on singing instead of the physical. For his age, I still think he looked hot though. Nice and thick. He is not fat, don't listen to some of the comments on You-tube. The worst part? Glenn's bald spot. I am a huge fan and have been for awhile so I can overlook anything for the sake of seeing Danzig. I was very pleased and I most admit that I sang along to everyword, cheered often and even squealed in delight a few times. Glenn is still uniquely himself and that is hot.
