i was apprehensive about seeing this show due to negative reviews i had read about the fillmore charlotte and that it was standing room only, but i was able to get a spot on the 1st level up from the main floor right behind the mixing board so in my opinion it was the best spot in the house. i had no trouble seeing the entire show and all of the action. the path through to the bathrooms was marked off with tape and was kept pretty clear by the staff. there were enough bars (4 i think) so you didn't have to fight a crowd to get a beverage. yes the drink prices were high: 4 dollars for water and 9 dollar beer ( i don't know about the mixed drinks) but it is what it is... i've never been to any show where they didn't gouge you for pretty much anything they could. no camera's, not even cell phone cam's are allowed, although i did see plenty of people taking video's or pic's. i saw at least one person ejected and my brother was given a warning.
as far as the bands: seventh void was a black sabbath/ soundgarden kind of band very loud and heavy, never really got into them but they gave their all and even hung out in the crowd through the rest of the show. the guitar player talked to me and my brother for a long time. gorgeous frankenstien was ok. loud and angry. doyle is a big dude and looked pretty cool in his makeup and devillock. made me think this might have been what the misfits were like when glenn was in the band 'cept they were more maybe heavy metal than punk but they were cool. the lead singer had the werewolf thing going on with the mutton chops and "wolfman" tattooed across his abdomen.
finally, i didn't know what to think when danzig came on stage. i had heard the criticism about his voice and wondered how he would sound and perform now that he's in his 50's.
i can only say that there's no doubt about it the man's still got it!!! he sang nearly every note with the power and fury that i've come to expect being a fan of his and listening to his albums for 20+ years. alot of bands i have seen live (motley crue, slayer) can't hit the high notes anymore and simply point the mic at the crowd during these moments and let the crowd finish the lyric or use an echo effect to let their voice drift to mask the fact they can't do it. not so with the 'zig!!! he only occasionally pointed it at the crowd during a chorus or very memorable hook but quickly returned to wailing away!!! and he's still in pretty good shape jumping and running about the stage and leaning into the crowd to slap hands with the fans. there were probably about 5 or 6 hundred people there which made for a very intimate setting. he spoke to us and joked around enough to make us feel like we were his people but at the same time kept the chatter to a minimum. believe me when i say he was all business from the time he took the stage to the last song of the encore. don't know if he stayed around to sign autograph's, i had to drive an hour and a half to get home but would have stayed if i could. danzig played about an hour and a half and played songs from all albums except i luciferi. probably the best show i have ever seen mostly due to intamate setting/ small crowd. also, the a/c was kicking. temp was very comfortable throughout the show. danzig made a comment about coming to nc during a "heat wave." guess he doesn't know it's like this down here all dirty black summer long in the south. he also gave a strong shoutout to the troops overseas which i thought was really cool.
