Per the description and my past experiences at DYC LA, was hoping for more indie pop music from a certain time (glass animals, Miike snow, Strfkr, etc) and instead felt like it was a lot of unrecognizable edm being played.
I've been going to DYC events for several years and have been a huge fan. Lately they have been branching out a bit to try other genres to stay relevant / current which I don't mind - they still give plenty of time for the old hits that brings in the patrons.
Dance Yourself Clean is advertised as a night of indie pop music from the 00's and 10's. On the website, there's even a list of artists whose music will be played. I would say every third song actually lived up to this promise. There were a lot of songs that were labeled as "DYC Originals" which meant that no one knew or would ever hear those songs outside of the venue. The last hour diverged into intense EDM. Normally, I wouldn't care if this was just a normal nightclub. But, I'm paying money to specifically hear a certain type of music and Dance Yourself Clean did not fulfill their side of the bargain.
