About

DAN DEACON IN CONCERT:

Indie electronica whiz Dan Deacon has been an emblem of sonic experimentation and no-holds-barred live performances for the past decade. The circuit-bending, beat-mangling, day-glo-loving underground hero’s frenetic live shows are among the most legendary affairs in DIY electronic music. Extensive audience participation, costumed dance contests, and chopped and screwed sounds straight out of a broken arcade game are just a few of the reasons Deacon remains the reigning king of off-the-wall, wtf-worthy concert experiences. Fans of futuristic sounds and blissed-out live performances won’t want to miss him as he continues to unleash electronic music’s wildest, wackiest dance party on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Long Island, NY-born Dan Deacon played in a ska band in high school before going on to study music at State University of New York in Purchase. While in college he played tuba and guitar in various bands while also performing solo material and releasing his first two albums Mettle Mice and Silly Hat vs Egale Hat (2003). He went on to study electroacoustic and computer music in graduate school while continuing to steadily release DIY albums. Deacon scored a breakthrough in 2007 with Spiderman of the Rings, his first commercially distributed album and a critical hit that landed on numerous year-end lists. He followed up in 2009 with Bromst, another critical success that Pitchfork named one of the year’s best albums. Since then Deacon has continued to release solo material and tour extensively while also composing pieces for an impressive variety of performers, ensembles, and film directors including So Percussion and Francis Ford Coppola.

Checked "Seeing Dan Deacon" Off My Bucket List

by jphilip88 on 11/16/12Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

If it isn't on your bucket list, rethink where you are in life. The opening acts were interesting and enjoyable and I would definitely recommend them to others. As for Dan. Experiencing his music live creates an atmosphere uniting a room full of people all there for one purpose; to enjoy Dan's craft. I don't know if it's just the common dispositions of all the people who listen to his music, but everyone seemed to get along before the music started, but as if being tethered together by sound waves, the room meshed together in dance (even interpretive dance) and made the experience fun for all. There's something that happens, it's not religious, it's not patriotic, it's not political, it's not any of those things, but it's something that when you hear the music, see others experiencing the music, and feel the frequencies resonating in your head, it just makes you feel like this is a good place, this is where you want to be. If you don't want that ringing the next few days... stand away from the stage you'll still see all of the crazy light and visual displays, but you better dance!

    Super Duper Performances

by emeightythreefan on 11/15/12Paradise Rock Club - Boston

This was one of the best shows I've been to in a while. The opening acts were incredibly varied and each awesome in their own way. Chester Endersby Gwazda kicked out the tunes pretty hard and Alan Resnick cracked up the audience with his comedy routine. Friends With Hights got everyone warmed up for the main event. Dan Deacon and his ensemble really put on a great show despite the entire tour being very sick. All in all a really fun time!

What an incredible show. So much awesome audience participation, and the smartphone app that he made turned all of our phones into part of the light show. What a blast!
