Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons, and went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars have become one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 20 postseason appearances and capturing nine division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

  • Good Nosebleed seats!

by DBlue River on 11/21/25American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Seats still uncomfortable, but game was great. First Dallas game (season tickets holder for Texas Stars). Met guys from Finland. Scuffles were stopped by refs too soon. Overall, enjoyed.

Great hockey experience. Fans get into it. Would recommend. Was traveling from out of state my spouse had never been to an NHL game & he loved it. You dont even have to be a Stars fan to enjoy it. Arena is easy to navigate, food is good.

  • ALWAYS A GREAT EXPERIANCE

by MIKE on 11/7/25American Airlines Center - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Stars games are always great. The ONLY thing that is bad the seats are a little to close together and by far the cup holders are not deep enough. TWICE I'VE JUMPED UP IN EXCITEMENT AFTER A GOAL AND MY DRINK COMES OUT WITH IT. I've gone to several games and several other fans are complaining about the same thing. PLEASE MAKE THE CUP HOLDERS DEEPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome

Great view of the ice from the upper sections- cheaper too. Energy from the crowd is great, and the game is always fun to watch.

  • Fun night despite loss

by Detrick on 6/10/25Rating: 5 out of 5

Unfortunately, The Stars got destroyed June 4th. Edmonton played well. The Stars cant always be 5 star. As usual though always a fun and special time at their games. I hope I can score tickets for another playoff game. It was electric.

  • Tough game

by Gilley on 6/10/25Rating: 5 out of 5

I took the family to the stars game against Edmonton on June 4th. The energy before the game was insane. I love going to games there. Anyway it was short lived as the stars lost 4-1. It was a fun night and you cant win them all! Go stars!
