About

With her multi-colored hair, eccentric fashion, and string of decade-defining hits, Cyndi Lauper has become synonymous with ‘80s pop. Her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual was an overnight success – her bubblegum-meets-punk aesthetic resonated with the nascent MTV generation, making her a new wave icon and earning her a Grammy in 1985 for Best New Artist. A talented singer with a mercurial voice, Lauper showed off her impressive range with the 2010 release of Memphis Blues, which remained at No. 1 on the Blues Albums Chart for an impressive 14 weeks and received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. Born and raised in Queens, Lauper began writing songs at age 12, inspired by legendary jazz vocalists like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. After playing in various cover and new wave bands in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, she became an instant critical and commercial success with her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual. The album produced four Top 5 hits, setting a record for an album debut by a female artist, and included perennial ‘80s anthems “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” On tour in 2013, Lauper impressed ticket buyers with her powerful voice and energetic live concerts, performing her greatest hits along with the entirety of the She’s So Unusual record.

    by Kirin3 on 7/14/09Miller Stage - Milwaukee

The show could have gone on for another hour or two. The energy and love in the air was beyond anything that can be put into words for the show. One of the most wonderful shows we have been to. Cyndi is beyond words. If you can get the chance to see her do so.

I'm so glad that I made the trip to Milwaukee to see Cyndi Lauper! Her voice was amazing and she had so much energy. What a performer! She gave the crowd 110% all night. She sang for a long time and made sure to include all her older hits. Best concert I've been to in a while!

by Saturndeeno on 7/14/09Miller Stage - Milwaukee

Cyndi Lauper came out, and from then to the end, she tempted the crowd with her charm, and won us all over! She was in Milwaukee for LGBT Pride Fest 2009. She didn't disappoint. Even coming into the audience like 5 times. What an awesome venue! Loves her!!! TY Cyndi! Chad Linden Green Bay, Wi.

While i always liked Cyndi, I had no idea how talented she was. her voice is incredible! Her entertainment style was also amazing; she took the time to acknowledge the crowd, go down into the crowd, and make them feel special. She is wonderful!

    Lauper Lacking

by Archibald on 7/14/09Miller Stage - Milwaukee

After 5 long (and 4 bad) warm up acts (including a midget Brittney Spears) Cyndi Lauper finally took the stage about 21/2 hours into her show. Though she had lots of energy she couldn't be heard for most of the show above her band who were badly over amp'd. I believe she was aware of the problem and she often became distracted, stopping singing to argue with the soundmen at the side of the stage. She rtepeatedly lost her place and even dropped her wireless apparatus several times. Not her most polished performance by any means and after paying $350.00 plus for my four tickets, I felt robbed.

    Cyndi Lauper at Miller Stage

by Chrisa on 7/14/09Miller Stage - Milwaukee

Well as usual Cyndi Lauper did not disappoint. She opened the concert dressed in a tight white outfit with pants and a long sleeve shirt each covered with jewels. She was also wearing a feathery face mask that did not cover her face, but was light blue and probably a foot and a half tall. She still has the same energy she did in the 80's and she dances and sings just as well. She sang a lot of her top hits and some I had not heard before...including songs from her Bring It to the Brink CD that was released a few months ago. The energy she projects while singing is amazing and you can tell every song means a lot to her and she sings all of them with true feeling. She was on par as well with walking into the audience and singing. I saw her at the Northern Lights Theatre at Potawatomi back in 2006 and she did the same thing. She actually sang Goonies 'R' Good Enough right next to me which was AWESOME! She even held onto me to help keep her balance because she was standing on the metal bench that no one was sitting on because everyone was standing up as soon as she came on stage. This is only the second time I have seen her in concert and I loved both performances. I had 2nd row seats this time and the show was just amazing and she played for over an hour and a half. The band was great that she played with as well. She did have mic problems all night and you could tell she was getting upset, but she handled it very well.

Cyndi was onstage for about two hours and simply amazing!!!! If you're not a fan, she will definitely make you leave the concert with a better appreciation for her and her music. This is one of the best concerts I have seen.
