CULTURE CLUB IN CONCERT:

Calling all karma chameleons: Culture Club is back on the road to promote their latest album Tribes, and fans across North America can relive the ‘80s as Boy George and company perform their classic new wave hits on tour. In concert Boy George remains as fierce a showman as ever, taking the stage with the same gender-bending makeup and outré fashion that made him a global ‘80s icon. Whether he’s bringing the drama on upbeat favorites like “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya” or melting hearts with his coy croon on “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”, George always charms audiences with his soulful delivery, infectious dancing, and candid asides between songs. The band keeps pace beautifully, cranking out their signature brand of reggae-influenced new wave with an ease and funkiness that is sure to get fans grooving. Whether they’re performing solo or sharing the bill with fellow new wave icon Howard Jones, Culture Club always treat fans to a nostalgic and dance-worthy journey through some of the best sounds of the ‘80s.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Culture Club was formed in London in the early ‘80s by Boy George, an androgynous club kid who had previously sang with legendary new wave outfit Bow Wow Wow. Calling themselves Culture Club as a nod to their diverse cultural backgrounds, the band made their debut in 1982 with the album Kissing to be Clever. Though the album’s first two singles failed to make much of a mark, third single “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” topped charts around the world, catapulting the band to international superstardom virtually overnight. Their 1983 sophomore album Colour by Numbers was an even bigger smash, blowing up charts around the globe with catchy hits like “Karma Chameleon” and earning the band a Grammy in 1984 for Best New Artist. Culture Club released two more albums in the mid-’80s to moderate success, but by 1986 Boy George’s struggles with addiction had pushed the band apart. They reunited in the late ‘90s and released the 1999 album Don’t Mind If I Do and toured for a stint, but George’s successful career as a DJ soon led to another hiatus. Following a few one-off shows in 2011, the band reunited in 2014 to record their sixth album Tribes -- a highly anticipated return that has fans dying to catch them on tour in support of the release.

Howard Jones towered over Culture Club

    by Sal on 8/27/23

Culture Club played a bunch of songs no one cared about and used some arrangements that made the good songs unrecognizable. Fan base comes for nostalgia and were sorely disappointed. Thankfully, Howard Jones surpassed expectations and was absolutely wonderful. Made it all worthwhile.

Has been much better in the past

    by Jeannine on 8/27/23

I've seen Culture Club 3 times and have had a blast the 2 previous times. This time was much different. Boy George seemed not happy, barely smiled, and was not interactive with the crowd or his band as in the past. I hyped them up to be a funny, phenomenal show and was completely disappointed. Breaks my heart to say I'll prob not go see them again.

    Love Boy George

    by Julz on 8/25/23

It was a fun night, but I was disappointed that Culture Club did not play more of their own songs. I love Boy (Man) George, his personality, his playfulness.

Please start earlier if there's a threat of rain

    by Hwhnn1 on 8/25/23

Howard Jones and Berlin were great. Culture Club played a few new songs that we didn't recognize and we were disappointed that they had to finish early due to rain even though we barely felt very few drops. They didn't get to play alot of their classic hits. It felt rushed and we wished that the concert would have started one hour earlier so that they could have played all of their hits or maybe just skipped the new songs and played their classic hits. We bought our tickets months in advance so that we could get great seats and didn't even think about the threat of a HURRICANE or tropical rain storm. This will affect our decision next time we want to go to an OPEN AIR VENUE like this one. So please consider starting early or playing songs that we want to hear . Thank You

    Best concert ever

    by 2sisters4rock on 8/24/23

I was in town visiting family, my sister and I saw on Groupon the ad for the concert, we are both babies of the 60's. So we said let's go. Loved it, all three acts were phenomenal 👏. A must see for those who grew up in the 70's and 80's.

Berlin, Howard Jones and Culture Club was a great show and entertaining. Loved that most if not all their hits were played.

    We want the hits

    by Sami on 8/24/23

Sorry I don’t usually complain but not happy with the Boy George performance. I was ready to hear the hits from the 80’s. But I’ll always be a fan. Hope he comes back again to perform the hits we love. Howard Jones was amazing!! He understood the assignment.

Culture club was not the same

    by Erin on 8/23/23

Berlin and Howard Jones were good but culture club changed the style of all of their songs and myself and two other I was with did not care for it. I saw him at mountain winery and he was way better . Played his old school style.

Culture Club was AMAZING! Bucket list band✔️

    by Mindy Rhodes on 8/23/23

I am 45 years old and I had been wanting to see cultural club since I was probably about 12 or 13. They came last year but unfortunately, I ran to some financial hardship and I wasn't able to see them. Culture Club and Boy George in general have so much sentimental meaning to me. My aunt who raised me between the ages of 5-10 had 3 teenagers, my cousins, when I moved in with her. One of them was huge CC/BG fan along with George Michael, Dead or Alive, etc. So I got into them at a really young age. Sadly my cousin passed 2009 so seeing CC/BG brought back so many wonderful memories of me and her acting silly, dancing and singing in the living room, kitchen, bathroom or wherever we might hVe been. This entire show was amazing! Berlin, Howard Jone and CC/BG were all fabulous! Berlin covering The Cults, She Sells Sanctuary. Howard Jones speech about love. BG's speech about being a weirdo! I loved it all! Such an amazing night!

    Spectacular!

by The Smile Crew on 8/23/23

We had a blast! The flow of concert was great! Boy George, Howard Jones, and Berlin were amazing. It was like stepping back in time. Having our 15 year old join us to experience the wiles of our youth was joyous! :-)

One of the worse headliners ever.

    by Al on 8/23/23

High expectations for seeing culture club for the first time. Berlin opened and were great. Howard jones had everyone up and dancing. He is great. Culture club walked on and that’s where the fun ended. Boring scripted breaks between songs. The production of the tunes to fit with a poor Reggie beat. Better bands on a Vegas bar off the strip. Will never see culture club again

    Dissappointed with Culture Club

    by RonDog on 8/23/23

Berlin and Howard Jones we great! I was disappointed with Culture Club. Boy George covered a lot of other peoples songs and didn't do enough of their own. By the 5th song, our entire group left. We decided it wasn't worth waiting until the end to hear the few songs we came to hear. Super bummed, since I was most excited to hear them.

    Great Night of Music

    by Tami on 8/23/23

The bands were GREAT! So much fun to hear the old songs live again and enjoy some new songs. My only issue is it would have been nice if both entrances were open at the venue, only one created a very long line.

    Great Concert!

    by Marcio on 8/23/23

Boy George and the Culture Club were spectacular! It started with Berlin and her amazing voice. Howard Jones came in with his electronics and made everyone dance! And when Boy George came up to the stage, it was going back in time to High School days! I really enjoyed it. The Concord Pavillion was the best venue too. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the place was so clean, my wife was amazed. And they had 2 different concerts the night before! Congratulations to them!!!

Three Great Acts, One Awesome Price!

    by Millie on 8/23/23

We have watched Culture Club and Berlin before so we know they're always put on a great show. Add Howard Jones to the line-up and he just elevates this further! Add to this the $20 all-in deal and it was one of the best shows we've ever watched. Concord Pavilion is such a great venue - so much better than Shoreline where it's a nightmare to go in and out. Concord Pavilion has the option to park for free at the BART station and take the shuttle to the venue so it makes access super convenient. Please have more of these shows at that location!

music was great, venue not so much!

    by e s on 8/23/23

Old venue needs everything updated. Parking is a hot mess, if you are disabled or not in good health then that walk up to the entrance will get ya. I could go on and on but, too much to list here. The music was great tho.
