John Fogerty Jan 21st at Harrahs Southern CA

    by D. P. on 1/22/22

So Sorry to post this, because I’ve loved Fogerty for 50+ years, but this was a total waste of money, a lot of money. One thing I respect of bands is when they care about their sound enough to ensure that all of the people in attendance can hear their music clearly. Seems this would be a priority to me, especially given the cost of concert tickets. Well …. We had wonderful seats, 11 rows from stage center. They cost more than $300. But, the sound mix was the worst I have heard in at least 30 years. John’s voice was possibly great last night, but we will never know because could not hear him. It sounded like he was singing from inside a big box. There were no highs coming through. Same issue for his guitar playing, which was indistinguishable from any other muddled, mixed up sounds coming from the band. The drums and bass were grossly over mixed, so we could only hear lows. Fine musicians, to be sure, but their sound cancelled every high note played or sung. If I were a professional musician, I would demand excellence in the way a live performance is mixed. This mix was terrible. Remember, we were center stage in row 11. Sound should have been perfect. And the mixing board was about 12 rows behind us. I’ve been told at venues that the band controls the mix. John Fogerty, I love you, and wish I could have heard you sing and play guitar last night (Jan 21st). And I paid enough money that I should have been able to hear your voice and your guitar work clearly. I could not. I’ve seen other bands in much larger venues from much worse seats and their sound was amazing (McCartney several times, the Eagles several times, Journey, Doobies). John, you must hire new sound engineers, although “engineer” would not have been an appropriate title for whatever the person in charge of your mix was doing last night. In short, the horrendous sound mix totally ruined this concert for me and my wife. So disappointed and we feel cheated. I think it is the band’s responsibility to provide a clear, well mixed sound for all the people attending. But Jan 21st John Fogerty was a complete failure.
