About

Beginnings of a Stellar Career

The unique brand of humor of stand-up comedian and actor Corey Holcomb regularly exceeds the expectations of audiences. He developed a knack for presenting himself as a laid back performer, enticing the audience with his stories as he slowly builds up to comedic endings. In reality, he is a dynamo who adheres to a rigorous comedy tour schedule and has seen his popularity regularly grow. By 2016, he was doing 13 shows a year at places like Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco and the Fox Theatre Detroit in Detroit. The 2017 comedy tour included more than 40 shows at high profile venues like Carolines on Broadway in New York, NY; Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, VA; and the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, CA. Holcomb keeps the fast pace going in 2018 as he crisscrosses the U.S. from DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. to the Stardome Comedy Club in Hoover, AL, to the Helium Comedy Club in St. Louis, MO and onward to Irvine Improv in Irvine, CA, plus many more stops along the way. At the same time, Holcomb added acting on television and in movies to his accomplishments. He has appeared in three TV comedy specials of his own, and many other shows, including Showtime's "Shaq's All Star Comedy Jam." Prolific performer Holcomb has also guest starred on several sitcoms, including "Tyler Perry's House of Payne," "Half & Half" and The Cleveland Show. His roles in "Black Jesus" (2014) and "The Wedding Ringer" (2015) won him acclaim as a talented movie actor. Holcomb has won numerous honors at nationally recognized events like the Budweiser Comedy Competition and Laffapalooza. Continued Fame and an Expanded Career Corey Holcomb was born in June, 1968 in inner city Chicago, Illinois. He is married and has three children. In 1992, Holcomb delivered his first open mic comedy routine when Adele Givens invited him to come on stage, and he has been making people laugh ever since. Holcomb is proud of his first appearance on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno in 2001 which earned him national recognition. In every role he plays, Holcomb uses the language of comedy to appeal to people of all races, genders and economic status. Holcomb expertly delivers an irreverent humorous male perspective of relationships with women, and nothing is sacred. His distinctive humor is applied to what he calls honest and true stories of life and relationships. Laughing at Life Holcomb doubles audiences over with laughter as he gives his perspective on growing up in inner city Chicago, maneuvering through street life and relationships between men and women. Holcomb has developed a distinctive brand as an edgy comedian who calls himself the "Ghetto Dr. Phil" and is willing to take on any topic, including those people avoid. He enjoys giving away the tricks and secrets of men who are in a perpetual state of confusion about women, discussing dating, how marriage really works, sex, raising a family and divorce. Truly innovative, Holcomb applied his particular brand of social commentary to the "Corey Holcomb 5150 Show," streamed on Ustream.

    Lavelle & Rickey=awesome; Corey Holcomb=horrible

by dd2012 on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Rickey Smiley was good. Lavell Crawford performed 2nd and was AWESOME as always. I really wish he was the last performer so the show would have ended on a high note. Lavell had the entire audience crying with laughter!!!! Instead Corey Holcomb was the last performer. He was not funny at all and people started walking out on his performance before the show was over. Corey was REALLY BAD!!!!

Horrible way to bring in the New Year!

by crush79 on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I expected to laugh the most at Rickey Smiley but he mumbled his words to the point I didn't know what he was saying. Others around me felt the same way. And I could hardly understand what Lavell was saying either. Were they drunk? I guess they didn't learn to especially enunciate their words during a stage performance. Corey had the best stage performance by far! We understood every word! I admit we were in the balcony, but I've been to the Arie Crown before and had no problems with the audio quality. The audience was dead too. It seemed half the crowd were on their cell phones on FB or texting. That's a big inclination on how entertained people were. I'd rather go see Kevin Hart or Mike Epps again. For this show, Corey Holcomb was great! I'd pay to see him again.

I'm not sure it was the GREATEST night of comedy..

by KeyshKeysh on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

The show was scheduled to begin at 11, but actually started at 11:30. Parking at the Arie Crown was $19, why???? I have no clue... Things started out a bit slow, mostly because they had to fill time until the NYE countdown to midnight. After midnight, everything seemed more organized and the show was enjoyable. Sitting in the balcony, it was often difficult to hear the jokes, possibly due to volume control or the microphone going in and out. The comedians were hilarious. I just wish the overall experience was better.

These 3 are some of my favorite comedians and the fact I got to see them live and all in the same place on new years made it extra special

I had a wonderful time. All the acts were funny however u would have replaced the radio contest winner with another comic.

    A night to remember.

by Southsiderfive on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Lavelle Crawford was the best. The rest of the entertainers were not that funny and the show lacked organization. For the kind of money that we paid for tickets it should not have been that much "Ad Lib" to the show (especially since it wasn't that funny).

Started late and the venue was half empty. The featured comedian did not spend enough time on stage.

    New Years Eve show

by Anonymous on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Very good show..the opening act was very good. His impersonation of Bernie Mack was dead on but Lavell Crawford was a bit set this time around. Corey Holcomb was funny as ever! Ricky Smiley was a great host and MC who keep the show moving. Definitely recommend attending of they come to your city.

    Repeat jokes

by Anonymous on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

This show was mediocre at best. Corey Holcomb was drunk AGAIN and did the same jokes as Shaq's allstar show, including the abortion jokes. He's definitely not a funny character. Lavell was pretty boring as well. He seemed too rehearsed. This could have been done much better.

    GREATEST NIGHT OF COMEDY: hilarious

by holmesmd on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

This was a very funny show we went to on New Years Eve. The content was exclusively centered around "urban humor" and was hilarious. The show started on time which is a good thing. Venue was awesome and ease of parking and entry was good. I would say that it's a rather long walk for anyone who might be handicapped or disabled. All in all, a very funny urban comedy show that I would certainly recommend.

    People Were Walking Out...

by Grwnwnvy on 1/2/12Arie Crown Theatre - Chicago

If it weren't for the hotel room that was included in this purchase, the total thing would have been worthless. These guys have lost the very quality that made them coveted acts in the first place. Ricky Smiley was clearly confused about where he was, he hosted as if he were on his radio show and not before an audience of paying people. I would think that almost 15 years after Comic View he would be able to afford a few writers and someone to coordinate a show that was more entertaining. Lavelle Crawford made a joke about Hurricane Katrina victims that was in such poor taste ; I'm talking way past being funny, it was just desperate. Corey Holcomb should be in jail or in someone's self-help group but instead he's apart of this sad excuse for a tour. He even had the nerve to bring his 10 year old son out on stage. At that point we felt bad for laughing at almost anything that he said. A large amount of people walked out of this show... and didn't come back. Then they had the nerve to talk about someone who did them the favor by staying almost until the end. In the future I'll save my money and go and spend $20 at Jokes and Notes further down King Drive. had a three piece band and the majority of his music was played off of a laptop... so what's the point?
