About

CONOR OBERST IN CONCERT:

Indie rock posterboy Conor Oberst may have outgrown the wunderkind label of his early days, but maturity has done nothing to diminish the wonder in his music. Fans of Oberst's many projects — Bright Eyes,  Desaparecidos, the Mystic Valley Band — have found  much to love in his recent solo work,  and the prolific singer covers a bit of everything at his discography-spanning live shows. Whether he's performing stripped down arrangements with just a guitar or adding bombast to his compositions with backing musicians and electronics, Oberst delivers the same heartfelt, emotional  performances he's become known for. In support of the 2014 release of Upside Down Mountain, Oberst will embark on a series of highly anticipated US tour dates with special guest Dawes.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Oberst was involved in choir and other musical activities during high school. By age 13, he had self-released a cassette album called Water, which he recorded in the family home's basement with his father's four track recorder.  The label Oberst and his brother founded for the release would become venerated indie label Saddle Creek Records, which they still own and operate today with a roster of bands that includes Cursive and Tokyo Police Club. After several early projects, the precocious young Oberst hit his stride with Bright Eyes, one of the most acclaimed indie bands of the '00s. Alongside his work with the band, Oberst has continued to release solo material, with 2014's Upside Down Mountain marking his ninth solo album.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Not only did he play many old songs that I know and love, he also spoke to the crowd, made us laugh, and mesmerized us with his talent and artistry."

"His performance was one I'll never forget. He was so coherent and raw...loved that he actually spoke to the crowd and was social."
"Mindblowing! Conor was so much fun, played songs from most of his discography"

Great vibe Saturday night at the Fillmore. Conor went on pretty late which was fine because it let all of us getting even more liquored up. The show was great. Hope to see him again next year!

Conor was as awkward, wonderful, and brilliant. Just as expected. Everyone should check out Larkin Poe. They have voices of angry angels.

    Best songwriter of my generation!

by Jimmyneverdies on 6/9/15Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I take any chance I can get to see the greatest songwriter of my generation play live and this was no exception. Hthis show completely eliminated and want I had to go to the governors ball seeing as it was a headlining show for the best artist governors ball had performing anyway. Knowing he had just played a set at governors ball I was worried he might not have the energy to put on a complete, full set, boy was I glad to be wrong! Conor's set was nothing short of spectacular straight down to the encore playing well into the morning hours. Couldn't be more pleased with this show I've been reliving it since it was over! Conor is the best!!!

    Surprise Gift

by GrizzlyBeast on 10/9/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

We bought tickets to see John Prine. We had never heard of Connor Oberst and considered arriving in time for John's performance. I'm glad we didn't. Although some of the lyrics were difficult to discern, Connor put on a good show. I'll search out some of his music and see if it has legs. The only thing I wish Connor had done was introduce his back up band. They were great. John Prine was his usual understated superb self.

    Great pairing! Great show!

by SoCalTramp on 10/9/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

The show started promptly at 7PM. Conor Oberst turned in a very nice set of his own. By 9PM, John Prine took the stage. He was super! Conor and his band returned briefly for a couple of numbers.

Old and New School Story Tellers tell their story

by SCdramadude on 10/8/14Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Although he relied primarily on his first few records from the early 70's, John Prine still has that magic in his art. The audience was hushed as he told his heartbreaking and amusing tales of love, life and masturbation. His small but very talented band supported him through much of the concert until he and his guitar, really all he needs, did the rest. Conor Oberst was obviously in awe of his celebrated co-performer but this is one artist I have admired since the first Bright Eyes album through all of his other band projects and his solo work. It's impossible to minimize the complexity of his allusions and metaphors in his songs that go from tender to terror in a heartbeat. What a great combination and a perfect evening.

    Conor brings the fun

by Meche1 on 10/8/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

Loved the show, I am so glad Conor Oberst went out with the Good Life and Jonathan Wilson! Great show. Loved it.

Jonathan Wilson guitar skills outshine Conor

by Stubrew on 10/7/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

Honestly I bought the ticket to see Jonathan Wilson and really enjoyed the set with his band. As expected most of the crowd was there to see Conor. Unfortunately some of Conor's fans were fairly rude during Jonathan's set and biased me against Conor's set. It was a bonus to see Jonathan playing with Conor. Conor is a dynamic performer but I'm not wild about his voice. Left before Connor finished his set.

    Dawes

by weaselbuddy28 on 8/4/14SummerStage, Central Park - Central Park - New York

This is the third time in a year I've seen Dawes (twice on this Oberst tour) and while I'm enjoying seeing them in small venues with an audience who couldn't name even one of their songs, I wonder how long it will take for people to catch on to them or why they haven't already. Even considering how young they are...their resume is as accomplished as any band on the road right now. Their live show is a crisp, enthusiastic and genuine experience with a rotating setlist of songs from each of their first three albums combined with new songs. Their musicianship and songwriting is second to none. With all due respect to Conor Oberst, Dawes is the headliner on this tour.

    Bright Eyes and Dawes

by VroomVroom81 on 8/3/14SummerStage, Central Park - Central Park - New York

Terrific performance and it was great that they played song after song and packed in as much as they could rather than take breaks in between - it felt as you really got your money's worth!
