    Awesome, awesome, awesome

by michichgo on 6/13/10Vic Theatre - Chicago

I don't know how it's possible, but Johnette sounds better than she ever did. She and her bandmates really put on a phenomenal show. Don't miss them if you have an opportunity to see their show.

    Better than ever

by Anonymous on 6/13/10Vic Theatre - Chicago

Johnette's voice stole the show as I figured it would, she sounded better than ever and looked amazing! James was at the top of his haunting guitar game and did not overpower the vocals or rythym. The energy at the Vic was tremendous and the band was genuinely emotional about the crowd's enthusiam and appreciation for an astounding performance.

Concrete Blonde strong show at the Vic.

by Anonymous on 6/13/10Vic Theatre - Chicago

Alright.... a 1990 release, 20 years hence. Can the band recreate the emotion and vibracity of such an earlier time. Oh yeah. Johnette was amazing, looking fit as a fiddle with a voice that has possibly improved. Hitting notes solidly with body, tinged with emotion. She was off the mike 2 feet or more at times, it didn't matter. James Mankey played solidly and deliberately, stoic and reserved as the entire audience was rivetted on Johnette. Gabreil on drums kept the group together, neither lagging or leading, it was a band-effort. Songs included almost all of Bloodletting, kicking of with the Vampire Song... gothic and prowling. I can't think of one song that did not engage me. Joey came across great as well as Wendy... so poignant. The energy in Days and Days was incredible. As with most concerts, familiarity with the music always helps... in this case it makes this one of my top events. Must see for a Concrete Blonde Fan. If you are unfamiliar with Concrete Blonde... but you like gutsy vocals and cutting guitar... take a chance... they leave it all on the stage for you.

    Unbelievable after 20 years!

by cozzieman on 6/12/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

After seeing Johnette 2 years ago during her solo tour, was expecting to not exactly be knocked over - while I have been a big fan of Concrete Blonde and think Johnette has amazing talent, the show then wasn't all that great. She was very much out of it, rambled, forgot much of the songs and lyrics (her solo work included), and looked like she had just left a bar. While there were some sparkles, it was generally a poor showing - missed verses, notes, and didn't even pick up the bass. Friday night in Columbus was a complete 180 - Johnette, Jim Mankey and the new drummer simply rocked from the time the show started, through 100 minutes and 2 encores. This was the Concrete Blonde of 20 years ago - energy, voice, absolutely one hell of a show. The crowd was completely locked in from the first song, and were just as pumped for the entire set. Johnette looked great, was completely in control, and didn't miss a beat all night - every song was right on, she looked fit and trim, and she sang her lungs out. Easily one of the best shows of any band I have seen in the past 10 years (just saw Collective Soul last week, and they were very good - but Concrete Blonde was just in perfect form). I sincerely hope this tour can convince them to try this again - if they can keep this kind of energy for the rest of the month, anyone that sees them will have a good idea of what they looked like 20 years ago. Technically, the venue wasn't large (the Newport in Columbus, OH), but well-suited to the band; Johnette hammered away on the bass, Mankey was on the lead, and the new drummer was spot on - didn't miss a trick, looked like he had played with them for years. Johnette's voice was strong and clear, and she ripped apart all of the key songs (set list below) - when she came back for the encore with Wendy, she didn't miss a thing - absolutely perfect. At the end of the night, the comments were telling - the crowd was a good mix of those of use that remember the band from the early days, as well as quite a few younger people. The comments were along the lines of "Oh my God they rocked!"; "Where have they been for the past 20 years???"; "I can't believe that voice!!", etc. In summary - if you get the chance, you have to see them this year. If I can figure it out, I will hit at least one more stop on the tour - I don't care if they do the same set. Best 2 hours I have had in years...

    Johnette still has it

    by Kazz1120 on 6/12/10Royale Boston - Boston

Was there for the opening night of the concrete blonde tour. There were a few rusty moment in one song where she forgot the words but other than that a flawles performance. Played all the hits and favorites and surprisingly Johnette was playing base the entire show save a few songs. If u are a fan u will not be disapointed. If not a fan ( and u like Janis Joplin ) u may surprised at how wel they rock after 28 yrs together. Also arive earlier the opening act was worth the listen.

    Concrete Blonde was amazing!

by Rocknerd on 6/12/10Webster Hall - New York

I've waited 20 years to see Concrete Blonde & I was not disappointed. Lead singer Johnette Napoletano is one hell of a bass player & singer. She takes the stage like a fearless warrior. The amazing guitarest jim Mankey & Gabriel Ramirez complete this incredible trio. They celebrated the 20th anniversary of their masterpiece Bloodletting along with a few fan favorites. We could not get enough. Go see this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    DAMN!

by Ro2379 on 6/12/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

I've been a CB fan for 20 years but must admit I was sceptical about seeing them after so long. Concerns were completely unfounded. Johnette and the boys absolutely slayed every song they performed! And they performed all the greats. Vampires rise! Capre noctum!! Also . . . not sure how old Johnette is now but that lady can work a tight black dress like nobody's bid'ness!!

by schbrooklyn on 6/12/10Webster Hall - New York

I wasn't too sure what to expect and even regretted getting tix at one point because I have been spending a lot of money on shows - but I am so glad I went to this one. It was awesome. They played a range of songs. Johnette rocked. Courtney Love (saw her last month) could learn a few things from her. Definitely would recommend this show. Actually inspired me to buy more of their music.

    Concrete Blonde still rocks!!

by Neosig on 6/12/10Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Jonette's voice has not changed at all. Did a lot of songs off Mexican Moon, which made the concert. She actually got a little scary at times, but "good scary". Still very sexy lady that sings songs full of fire...like she is full of fire....Hellfire, that is. Concert was just smashingly good and I am already looking forward to seeing her again. Hopes she makes Columbus, Ohio a regular stop in future tours.

    Concrete Blonde were amazing!

by Dejavoodoo26 on 6/11/10Webster Hall - New York

I haven't seen them in 15 years and they were just as good as back then! I sure hope they come back around on tour later in the year or next year. Jonnette Napolitano's voice is one of the best and Jim Mankeys guitar playing suits it the best!

    Concrete Blonde

by hapie on 6/11/10Royale Boston - Boston

How awe-some it was to finally see one of the most under-rated band/singer/songwriter of my generation,, I totally enjoyed my-self,, The old Roxy looks great as the up scaled Royale,, the staff could use a course in personality and loosen up a bit,, other wise it was a great show,, Johnette doesn't seem to hang-out at the bus as in the old days - but then again she's lives in the desert and this was Boston,, thanx for comin.. ~hapie..

    Brilliant

by Showgower on 6/11/10Webster Hall - New York

Great show. Seeing James and Johnette playing together again made me realize just how "right" they are together. He is a brilliant musician (great Hendrix cover last night!) and Johnette... Johnette is who Janice Joplin may have lived to become, Alanis Morissette aspires to become and who Lady Gaga, Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera et al. will never become.

Concrete Blonde show at Webster Hall 6/10/10

by Misterx8 on 6/11/10Webster Hall - New York

Still kickin' it after more than 25 years! Johnette's voice is as powerful and soulful as ever. The band was working out the kinks a bit for this tour with some rough endings to songs and Johnette forgetting a few words. Overall, strong set list with old favorites and hits along with the greatest cover of Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" ever! For a guy that's been following this band since first seeing them open for General Public in 1986, this show certainly did not disappoint! As a venue, Webster Hall leaves some to be desired; acoustics and clarity of vocals were weak, going down 3 flights just to get to the bathroom was not fun and $8 for a beer is a bit steep. Still, nothing could take away from this fun show!

    As Good as Ever!!!

by cyberbmcd on 6/11/10Webster Hall - New York

The band was tight. The music was relevant. Johnette was amazing and LOOKED fantastic! The set was ALL of Bloodletting plus a few favorites. They did a beautiful cover of Little Wing. And I think I may have been one of a handful of folks who knew Ghost Riders in the Sky which they also covered. Johnette sounded and looked as good or better than she did at 25. I hope they plan on keeping this together. I want more CONCRETE BLONDE!!!!
