    50th Anny Jazz Fest

by Jazzy on 8/6/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

Performers were outstanding - exceeded expectations. Venue was clean, however very warm - suggest fans to keep air moving. Food was good but very slow service. Entry and exit to the venue was easier than expected.

    Excellent Music but Too Long

by Wickie on 8/6/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

Dave Koz and Friends was excellent, especially with Gerald Albright and Rick Braun. The Count Basie Orchestra and Chick Corea were also excellent. The Spanish Heart Band and Poncho Sanchez & His Latin Jazz Band were good. The opening act was painful as were a couple others. Without their 40 minutes set and 25-30 minutes between the show would not have been 7 hours and 20 minutes.

    Awful

by Ruby shoes on 8/6/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

I only enjoyed the Summer Horns. The other acts were just bad. Chick Correa and his band played music from a new CD... or did they just spend 30 minutes just individually improvising without a goal? Pablo Sanchez also played new “music” from a new CD... ? Or were they just up there improvising too? Watching Esmeralda Spaulding was like a musical adaptation of the emperor’s new clothes... she really was not playing music... but rather like an evening in the SF Beatnik era. The first act, sorry her name was unclear to me, was not ready for an event. And shall I tell you about concession prices? Omg. Thank you Concord Pavilion for sufficient numbers of women’s restrooms.

    Concord 2019

by JazzMannyhow on 8/6/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

Chick Corea and Esperanza Spalding WOW! were amazing. Could have listen to them all night. Patti Austin was very good as well. Dave Kos and friends a total let down. Playing cover songs most of the night. REALLY Boring (!) and not what one expects at a "50th Anniversary --- Concord Jazz Festival". Not headliner material . . . such a let down. We left early as did many many others.

Loved starting with where Jazz was 50 yrs ago up to the present. The best to me was Dave Coz & Friends. Excellent Show!! Loved every minute of it. Hope to see Concord Jazz Festival continue.

    Now where to run to!

by Let me Explain on 8/6/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

Now to be absolutely honest, the concert was very good! My problem was with Mother Nature. It was soooo hot that day, I had a lawn ticket and there is no shade anywhere on the lawn. People were forced to cram together under the couple of trees they have planted around the perimeter of the area. Me and my friend finally found I cool spot (only catch we couldn't see the stage) where we wouldn't burn up. The other issue was that the sound quality on the lawn was terrible, at times you could hear and a times you couldn't. I would love to be able to afford the "good seats" but alas us mere mortals must be banished to the fire pit.

    More time

by SaliCali on 8/6/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

Every headline band and musician was outstanding, but more playing time could have been allotted for the bigger names like Esperanza Spalding. Super quick set change outs in between groups. The art and wine expo was lacking. A good comeback effort, but more was needed. Venue was great for taking Uber or Lift easy drop off and pick up.
