There is Great Improv in Des Moines!

by DJElvis77 on 5/19/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Stoner Theater - Des Moines

Wow! I was not expecting this level of quality in downtown Des Moines, but I was pleasantly surprised! If you get the chance, check this troupe out!

Just wasn't very funny. I love the show "Who's line is it anyway" and I watched improve in high school competitions, and both of those were more entertaining. Plus I got charged twice for the tickets???

Improvising is difficult with a drunken crowd

by Snuggilee on 1/4/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Stoner Theater - Des Moines

This was my first time seeing Comedy Xperiment. I thought most of the performers were pretty good, you could tell there were stronger members than others. Overall, it was a great shot of effort for having such an unfortunate crowd. This was NYE and when they asked members of the audience for suggestions the crowd blurted out useless random words unrelated to the content of the requested suggestion. For example, the request was to have an "awkward relationship between two people" and the thing a crowd member shouted was "hotdogs". That is not even a person let alone a relationship of any kind. I understand improv and the silly suggestions that can be made but when people are shouting random things that makes it extremely difficult for improvisors to work with thus creating a sub-par show and quite a few bore moments. I think the actors did the best they could with what they had. They had a good variety of skits and great energy. The best part of the show was probably a detective skit with a voluntary member of the audience on stage with them. I'd watch them again in hopes of having a better less drunken crowd without the slurred suggestions. It's not worth $25 for that, but maybe on a non "holiday".

Comedy Xperiment worth a thousand laughs

by Puglets on 10/9/12Stoner Theatre in the Civic Center of Des Moines - Des Moines

I have been to at least a dozen Comedy Xperiment shows over the past few years & love them! It's always something new & I can't wait to see what they come up with next . CXP does mostly long form improv comedy & occasionally bring in other local & regional improvsters for twice the fun. So if you are looking for something different, fun, & that won't break the bank, check out Comedy Xperiment!!!

    Great family fun

by wildermc on 10/9/12Stoner Theater - Des Moines

My husband, 14-year old daughter, and I have watched several of the Comedy Xperiment's shows. We really enjoy them. My daughter loves making suggestions for scenes and seeing them come to life. The atmosphere is informal and family friendly. You can always say hi to the performers after the show and chat with the regulars. All in all the shows provide you with a very pleasant and entertaining evening - we always leave with a smile on our faces and in great mood. The price is super reasonable - where can you get great entertainment for only $10?

    Comedy Xperiment Rocks Stoner Theater

by Sta01 on 10/9/12Stoner Theater, Civic Center - Des Moines

CXP takes audience suggestions and creates scenes of improv comedy based upon your ideas. I've been to several shows and they can make something funny out of nothing, but if you go armed with interesting suggestions for them you'll really see what they can do to entertain you. I think it's a great way to spend a night out and look forward to their season every year.

    Not Worth the Money

Was expecting something similar to Whose Line Is It but I was certainly disappointed. These guys have a long way to go.

    Comedy Xperiment didn't quite work

by BobZach on 10/25/11Stoner Studio Theater at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines - Des Moines

If you've ever seen Comedy Sportz, you will be disappointed with Comedy Xperiment. The first half of the show was one long scene that dragged along and didn't bring many laughs. The second half moved a little faster with "scenes from a hat". Overall, just too slow moving and too much dialog on stage for too few laughs.
