I saw the show at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore, MD. I do not recommend this show to anyone especially Sinatra fans. It was $140 lost and 90 minutes of my life I will never get back. I almost walked out halfway through the show. I gave the overall rating 2 stars and wished the music (three stars) and dance (1/2 star) could be scored separately. The music was good, but overall the “interpretive” dance was awful.
The Music: This was the best part of the show. The band was clear and classical Sinatra. I especially enjoyed the saxophone player.
The Dance: The shining light of the dance team was the bartender and his waitress partner. The rest were clumsy, contrived and just boring. The choreography was awkward and just did not fit the music. Sinatra’s music is smooth. So much could have been done in combining the music with dance, but the direction the dance took was graceless and sexually exploitive. During the show the women’s costumes continuously raised, until they are exposing their underwear and the men start taking off their shirts and before you know it men and women are running around in their underwear. The men start touching women’s private areas and the redhead dancer started into a full out strip. I was waiting for a stripper pole to appear and all the gang to join in. This is no nightclub I have ever been to, even in the wee hours.
My recommendation is to put on some real Frank Sinatra music or a Rat Pack show on and enjoy, just don’t waste your time or money with this show.
