Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets—whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War—joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

My seat was uncomfortable, felt smashed, not much room for people to pass
Always enjoy going to a bluejackets game no matter where I sit. I found the best price ticket in the lower bowl on ticketmaster and had an amazing experience. Everyone around me was super nice. There is nothing like going to a hockey game!
We had great seats for an awesome price. The hockey game was a lot of fun!
I enjoy hockey. The game was awesome. Love that the players give their hockey sticks out in the crowd. I'm yet to get one though.
The Blue Jackets do a great job making attending a game an memorable experience. Everything from the military spotlight, the staff, the free shirts, the food and drink selection is well thought out. I've been to Nashville, Detriot, Nashville and Columbus for playoff games and Columbus is tied with Nashville for best experience. By the way, Jackets lost this game and it was still an awesome experience.
Fan engagement is increasing and Jackets are rallying late season to compete for Conference honors
So much fun! Absolutely electric atmosphere in there! Go jackets!
The facilities are clean and well maintained. The entertainment between play is fun and engaging. The stadium has an overall positive family friendly feel. I love going to Blue Jackets games. I am never disappointed!
Enjoy going to live Hockey games! The arena atmosphere is always great! The nation wide arena staff are always helpful and polite.
The game was such an epic experience for my friend who hadn’t been to a game in 18 years!! She said she will definitely be back. The food, game and seats were amazing!! Now she sees why I am obsessed with CBJ!!
We go to at least 9 to 11 Columbus Blue Jacket games. We always have a great time. We enjoy the games. The crowd energy. The CBJ program is always entertaining. We travel 1 hour to the Nationwide stadium and don't have any complaints. Easy coming and going in and out. We are true CBJ fans!
I've been to several games at Nationwide Arena. I always have a real good time. The staff is friendly and I don't find the wait to long for any of the amenities. Although in all honesty you will run into some foul language from the other fans but I kind of expect that at sporting events. If you do find it excessive then tell the ushers they are pretty good about handling the issues. Go early and enjoy the pre game warm ups. The players are totally awesome and it's really great to see them acknowledge the fans especially the kids.
The crowd, Nationwide Arena and the workers at Nationwide makes going to a Blue Jackets game the best sporting event in the state of Ohio. They cater to the fans and 99% of the fans are well behaved knowing there could be children around. I quit going to Reds and Browns games and save up money to go to Blue Jacket games. The organization went all in this year and we are behind ya. Go Blue Jackets!!!
We had great seats. We had an awesome time at the game and can't wait to go again
The game had a playoff atmosphere, it was an awesome environment to be a part of. The seats were great (lower corner), hard to find a bad seat at Nationwide.
Went to the blue jackets and Carolina game on Friday 3/15. Was a excellent time we sat in the club section which we prefer when we go to games.. always fun and no complaints ..
We had fun! Beer and music good, sad the b’s lost. Peanuts were good. I like CBJ, but like bruins better
The game between the Bluejackets and Boston was one of the better ones I have seen them play. It was full of action and excitement. Columbus outplayed Boston for the majority of the game. The Bruins mounted a furious comeback rally in the 2nd period, but Columbus hung on, an added two goals in the final period. A good, mostly well played game overall.
Enjoyed the game, appreciated the fans we sat by and all workers of Nationwide Arena had a great smile, great customer service and seemed happy to be a part of it all. Great overall experience.
Probably one of the best games I attended all year. Great atmosphere, no rudeness, and great game!
