Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets—whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War—joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

We always have a great time with great crowd, good food and great Hockey!
This was our first time at Nationwide Area to watch the Columbus Blue Jackets. We thought the arena was wonderful. It was clean and all the staff was friendly and helpful. The game was great, and it was nice to see all the CBJ fans having a great time. We would love to go again sometime!
Great Seats, 4 Fights, and Tie Breaker with a shoot out. My son, grandson, and I totally enjoyed the event.
Columbus OH is a great city to watch live NHL. The organization puts on an excellent NHL experience for its guests. Reasonably priced for all. Hotels near venue are affordable as well. Keep up the good work Columbus!
I've attended every opening night and was season ticket holder for most of those years. I'm so disappointed in recent seasons with the in-game experience. The excitement was so much greater in those early seasons. It was much more of an event and certainly more "fun". Now it seems staid, the in game contests boring and meaningless really (they always award the price however lame). Game ops people should revisit those early seasons and try to recreate. Ever been to a game in Vegas? Now that's fun and exciting! We can do better. I know because we did it before!
CBJ played awesome, they put everything they had on the ice, gave the fans an awesome showing. So proud of those Blue Jackets.
Absolutely love watching the Blue Jackets at home in Nationwide Arena. The friendliness of the staff, clean environment, great food/beverages, selection of CBJ merchandise, parking and ease of getting out after games makes this a great experience. Can't wait for next season
1st time watching CBJ shut out a team much less the Caps. Was hoping to see the great 8 but he was a no show. Lots of folks disappointed over that.
-was a complete experience. Wait staff was a bit slow, did not know the special menu. The special menu should be named something else then teppanyki which is Japanese on an open flat grill and would be considered a Japanese cuisine-- which none were of that category view was somewhat blocked when others in club area stood up so goals were missed. Too far from the action. Club area is more private and good selection of food items to chose from per table menu and in the area.
The game was soo awesome, thrilling and was just fantastic. The energy, goodies, food and drinks were all top notch. I will surely come back for more!!
