Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets—whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War—joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

This was the best live sporting event I have ever been to. Great seats. Great game. Unbelievable atmosphere!
God, these guys just never stop! It was insanely loud and the crowd stayed in it the whole time. Who doesn't love walking away with a win?
This was an unbelievable hockey game between the Pens and the Blue Jackets! Highly recommend going to a game here
Nationwide Arena was rocking! This was the best sporting event I have ever attended, and I've attended 300+. Only negative was that concessions were VERY slow- need to increase the staff for playoff games.
One of the best sporting events i have ever been to. Nationwide Arena is taking advantage of the support the team is getting from the city.
Greatest game in CBJ history...after years of substandard hockey, the team has turned a corner finally
We had a great time and it was a great game. We will be back for more games this year and years to come
Wow, what a game. The players, the crowd, the seats, all fantastic. I was so happy to be a part of the first ever home playoff win! #WeAreThe5thLine #BattleOn #DefendNWA #CBJ
And this team, arena, and game exceeded all expectations!!!
Seats are exceptional. All amenities are close by. The view is fantastic
Great time, great win, good seats could not be happier.
What a game! Playoff hockey is insane. Crowd was incredible! I would recommend taking ear plugs to any playoff game because it was VERY VERY LOUD!
Possibly the best sporting event I've ever seen live - and I've seen a lot!
The very first home playoff win. Absolutely Fantastic!
The way the game developed and ended it was the BEST sporting event EVER held in Columbus.
I bought two tickets for game four Bluejackets versus the team from pittsburgh and it turned out to be the greatest game in franchise history. It was a birthday present for my son's 21st birthday and the Jackets delivered. Pretty good seats, unbelievably loud crowd and a thrilling overtime comeback victory. If you are a fan that is all I should have to say. My hope is that all Blue Jacket fans can have that kind of sports viewing moment with a loved one. CBJ baby
Awesome hockey game! To see CBJ win in overtime was an experience I'll never forget. I was hugged and high-fived by dozens of complete strangers all celebrating the glorious victory. This makes me want to witness every play off game in person and I will do my best to accomplish that goal. Nationwide Arena was a madhouse of happy fans. Go Blue Jackets!
SIMPLY ONE OF THE TOP SPORTING EVENTS IN COLUMBUS HISTORY!! GO JACKETS!
OMG....what a game! This was a playoff game that a fan will never forget. The Jackets came back from a 3-0 deficit and won it in overtime 4-3. We are the fifth line (the fans) were loud and proud. When Derick MacKenzie tied the score with literally seconds left, the arena erupted with cheer. Then when Nick Foligno scored the winning goal in overtime, it was even louder. The cannon went off three times but you could hardly hear it.
Amazing! Went to Jackets game Monday and Wednesday it was electric! Glad CBJ Fans were there, not many pens fans.
